@shazmeister2005 . Not quite.Senna wasn't struck by the wheel. A piece of the CF lower control arm pierced his helmet through the corner of his visor and entered his brain, thats why he lost so much blood track side. No matter how safe the car, debris from carbon fibre is lethal. Senna was just very unlucky.

Consedering the accident, Kubica was pretty lucky. I've seen so much less horrific accidents in F1, even though they were all fatal. When I see this, I just think what a great lucky to survive on this accident and be able to come back to F1 just couple months later..

@560928 Indeed, what you have to remember though is that the car deforming and bits flying off absorbs energy, meaning that the driver is subjected to less force. Senna was struck on the head by a wheel otherwise he would have probably been uninjured. No matter what you do, a driver being struck on the head by something (even as small as a spring as Massa proved) is going to cause serious injury.

@loza556 Patience, my friend. I think Robert will do well at Renault, the team are building themselves around him, and when you consider that they're fighting with Mercedes for 4th in the constructors championship, they've taken a huge step forward since 2009. Next year Robert will have a car designed for him, the team will have made more progress and maybe we'll see him challenging for podiums or even wins. :-)

@dharmafreak I read somewhere that one of the many safety improvements on F1s was to have the pedals behind the front axel (or farther back anyways). Kubica still has both feet thanks to that.
