  • sword of mana was the first game i completed but i had more fun playing secret of mana

  • This was the first game I ever completed. I was eight.

My mother couldn't do it. I remember watching her die against the Mana Beast over and over again, and then her eight year old daughter goes and does it first time.

SHE DID NOT LOOK HAPPY xD

  • The game touched on an interesting concept. Randi had to do all of these scary and difficult things that he may have not wanted to do and he had no choice because he was the chosen hero. He might have been frightened and confused but it didn't matter, he couldn't say no because he was the chosen hero. He had to see loved ones die and he was banished from his home all because he was the chosen hero. He saw so much sadness because he was the chosen hero.

    I feel for ya, Randi.

  • Intro reminds me of Dragon Ball

  • why was i thinking of plants vs zombies final boss music when the first verse came?

  • I actually like this song better than SD3(or SoM2)'s Nuclear Fusion.

  • Almost 100 000 : D

  • I just heard the Mana Beast's howl sound effect. Rewinded the video: It was not there.

Damn you, Secret of Mana! What have you done to my mind?

  • very nice melody

  • The start of the tune is the most epic wind-up of all time in game music. :D

  • Ok Florent don't give up it's the final boss - epic theme - Ok ok calm down ok calm down ... OOOOMMMMFFFFFGGGGGG GIANT SPRITE EVAAAA -check the Life point of mana beast- 10 000 WHAT DA FUCK ?

  • when i heard that music this will be the BEST FIGHT EVER

  • @Chromidorr Uhm...headphones?

  • This is one of my favorite songs in SoM

  • Seiken Densetsu 3 is still my favorite in the series, but really, you can't go wrong with any of the first 4. Legend of Mana wasn't the great, but pretty good game.

  • Im using this song as the theme of the second form of an EX boss in a game Im working on with my friend. At 0:56, the battlefield starts collapsing around the both of you. Its a perfect theme.

  • 14 people screamed when they saw a Rabite.

  • 14 people have shitty taste, and yeah, i'm being completely objective here, this tune is one of the best in videogames, ever.

  • 14 people have shitty tast, and yeah, i'm being completely objective here, this tune is one of the best in videogames, ever.

  • This song makes me think: Oh fuck this is gonna be a good battle.

  • Absolutely the best.

  • I Wish The 16 Bit Gaming Never Died.

  • LOVE that electric bass, especially from 0:55-1:18!

  • 0:55 is later used for the beginning of Meridian Child in Seiken Densetsu 3. This is like a boss remix, only in reverse!

  • The Mana Beast is the ultimate magical being created by the fusion of every magical creature in the world into one absolute beast.

    Magical Creatures...like....Flammie.

So. Yeah. It's Flammie. It absorbed the purple dragons, abuncha other magical creatures, and is the last source of Mana left after the Mana Tree and the Mana Fortress are gone.

  • @DragonclawExia And i'm back again to swallow all the best youtube comments too.... Nyahaha... No seriously, nice theory there =)

  • @DragonclawExia It's not the Flammie you ride. It's just that Flammies become Mana Beasts sometimes. Randy sorte of points to it in the final battle.

  • blond girl summons Harzinger: "Mana Yin !" *cling*

red haired kobold girl summons Harzinger: "Mana Yang !" *cling*

a strange sound appears and the mana energy falls down from the sky like ash particles onto the Mana Sword - Mana Sword is revived.

And in the same seconds starts the first approaches the Mana Dragon in a flying wave from behind

  • 13 people don't know how to charge the Mana Sword :/

  • @thalan3 Why charge the Mana Sword when you can get a permanent one...

  • wow my brother, my neighbour and i played this GAME FOR A FREAKING ETERNITY !

and it will always remain in my heart T_T ... so sad ...

  • Guys, the Mana Beast is the MANA BEAST. NOT FLAMMIE.

  • @musicftwh1 Really? I always thought it was Flammie, then again the ending makes no sense because the American translation of this game was awful...

  • Brings back memories.... Of the time when I couldn't beat the mana beast cause I kept running out of mp! XD yes, I still play this game thru to the end occasionally.

  • @funkyexperience bwuahahahahaha!!! XD

  • @funkyexperience Most of them died on the Spiky Tiger too... :(

  • Mana Magic from the girl + Mana Magic from the dwarfish thingy = Mana Sword revived = 999dmg each hit

  • the game is so wonderful, funny graphyc bugs ^.^

i have the game over 10 years for my SNES <3

PS: my english is bad, i come from Germany ^^

  • This music, gameplay and graphics thing made me remeber a day I was playing thru the ending of the game in Terranigma, a friend came and insulted it saying it was a piece of shit....TERRANIGMA A PIECE OF SHIT? O.o

    Damn graphic only lovers ¬¬

  • @ericsigil Damn dude, I can relate. Some of my buddies seem like they only started gaming in the PS2/XBOX era or something, and they missed out on all these classic games and are quick to brush of old classics cause of the graphics. And Terranigma is one of my favorite games ever, so that one hurts, lol.

  • They could have done so much with the mana beast =(

You just stand there and make 999 Damage >.<

Why didn't make it like in Seiken Densetsu 3 with Dangaard?

You are on Flammie and you fight him on Flammies Head :D

  • @Valnar123 Dangaard was a bitch. That battle lasted sooooo long.

  • @ImmortalAcorn Yep it does, but it was more intense because you don't make 999 Damage permanently.

  • if somebody´s looking for the complete OSV as mp3, msg me. :)

  • tears ...

  • THIS is what I'd call a Badass-Boss-Bass

  • ill, sounds like nuclear fusion from seiken 3 lol

  • @Syndo It is but after Seiken Densetsue 2 they changed this on Seiken Densetsu 3.

  • 4 people never beat the game!

  • its flammie folks

  • the characters say its A Flammie, meaning its another dragon just like him. its not Flammie though

  • Oh Flammie, why... poor little guy.

  • @omganotherun

    That was not Flammie..

That was some other beast resembling Flammie. Also Flammie was still an adolescent and that thing was full grown..

  • @Re1Mu2R3 The Mana beast was Flammie. It even says so in the game.

Flammie was perhaps a adolescent when the party found him. Not so much when he learned to fly.

  • @CrankyMoogle WTF?! Uh, i think you need to replay the game perhaps.

You have to FLY ON Flammie to even get to the fortress where the mana beast is at.

  • @Drummr88 I remember the game just fine. I thought Flammie turned into the Mana beast after the kids beat Thanatos. My understanding is the flying fortress made Flammie go crazy.

  • @Drummr88 Oh and right before the fight with the Mana Beast the Hero mentions Flammies were Mana beasts. The other Flammies (Flammies parents) you are talking were killed by the snake boss and young Flammie was all that was left.

  • I don't know this game, but the music reminds me a little bit of Spectrobes.

  • this track has got to be the best in the entire game, though the ending credits theme is pretty good too :P

  • angel's fear was a pretty good tune to compose a soundtrack based off.

  • Oh crap isn't this song in Seiken Densetsu 3?

  • @FreytDoran Nope. there's a final boss song similar, but Meridian Dance is from Seiken Densetsu 2.

  • @FreytDoran no, but sounds familiar to some songs from seiken densetsu, like "nuclear fusion" and "sacrifice part 3"

  • I'm with @Sabin1337 here. Music makes up just about all of the game. It sets moods, readies you for battles, emphasises highlights and twists in the story. Often alot more than the graphics will.

  • @kryenarl It depends on the genre though. Mario platformers have no "plot twists" to speak of, and most of the emphasis is on gameplay. Music's still useful, but it takes a backseat to gameplay.

  • @JonnyJinx04 But this isn't about mario. Mario doesn't particularly have an engaging plot because it's just about the same story in every single game. the biggest twist is #2 on the SNES.

But in SoM, which this /is/ about, The gameplay is all about getting further in the story which the music makes up an immense part of. so, really, it depends on which way you want to look at it. Music not being as important as getting further in the story, or Music being that which really helps build the story

  • @kryenarl Regardless, his original post seemed to imply that 50% of the quality of ALL games is based on music.

I'll agree with you that music is important to this game. Dialogue and other storytelling devices may be a bit important, but I guess I might be splitting hairs at that point.

  • Best boss battle theme EVER!!!

  • One of the best games ever made. I remember getting to the last boss at a really low level and the fire swirl move would one shot my chars unless I put them in barrels :D

  • 0:55+ gave me a chill omg

  • Bassline from 0:56 onwards is soooooo good.

    Fuck i love this game.

  • Incroyablement prenant !

  • This fight was very intense for me, cause i was run out or nuts because of Thanatos and because of this song

  • @Jorgenson The Tree said that all the beasts (flammies) of the world combine into 1 forming the Great Mana Beast. That includes our own little flammie.

  • God that is some sick bass. Too bad it's not actually played on one... :( I want to jam the shit out of this.

  • @8JohnGalt8

you seen this dude right? watch?v=h2XU16Rw2dg

  • which 2 assholes disliked this?

  • @morrisandlola

    They are actually 3:

Randi, Purim and Popoie disliked this.

  • great boss great music theme.

only he was to easy if you know how to handel him

i whas lv 99 al spel max best armor best weapons he only hitted max 15-30 on me.

i could defait him within 3 mins

  • Am I crazy, or do I hear what's supposed to sound like a double-bass drum throughout this track? I definitely hear what's supposed to be a snare drum and a cymbal or two.

  • @civilwildman

this entire soundtrack has a drum beat that sounds like its on a double bass pedal.

  • this game is epic...but the boss battles way toooo easy...just have to repeat your attacking spells...only the first ones where a little bit difficult

  • @Denizlili90 Especially Witch Elinee's Spiky Tiger

  • @JasonBurrows1989 so true! the tiger was just awful to beat

  • @JasonBurrows1989 No matter how much you prepared for that thing, unless you got lucky someone came out dead.

  • I never beat this game... I got bored since I was too little and had a low "skill capacity" and ended up losing the data from trying to glitch the mana sword before the boss... only really made it to thanatos lol, almost killed him first try then he got all pissy and raped me.

  • This Music is sooo beautiful, it always drives tears into my eyes... :,-)

  • I'm used to the storytelling in anime so about if Flammie is or sin't the mana beast, my theory is that he really turned into the mana beast but went berserk in that state so he was attacking you without being conscious of that and after defeating him he came back to his senses so with the last of his energies he rescue you before he dies.

  • SoM musics always make me shivering, to me it's sign of magnificence

  • Thank god I discovered good RPG's like the chrono series and this when I was like 12 at least I'm not with all of my peers in the graphic craze era!

  • @narutokid2k7 What do you mean, SoM and CT are beautiful games to look at, along side having kickass music, good story, and good gameplay.

  • @FFaddict209 I know I was saying I'm glad that the games were not ALL about graphics and more about the story.

  • oh, ok =D

  • I can`t believe Square actually made this masterpiece, man im glad that i got to expierence this when i was a kid instead of the next big generic fps are an awfull jrpg by square like FFXII.

  • ya.... good days... back when 50% of the game's quality is based on the music, and the other 50% on gameplay unlike now where all the kids base the quality of the game on is 100% graphics

  • i hate how all of my friends prefer on game over another based on graphics. I personally like SNES graphics the best, creative but not too complicated.

  • Same here, plain, simple, colorfull and happy.

  • @Justforvisit

people don't respect games any more. They just play any new game with lots of guns and a good rating. They don't give two thoughts about the story or music or work put into a good game.

  • @Kirbyluver2 Sad but true (Hm, said that sentence to another topic before, well, still fits)

  • @Kirbyluver2 would you agree if i said that the old snes donkey kong countries look better then the one on the wii?

  • @Mysterymelmoth

not really, although those games looked great for their time the sprites were very pixilated, i don't dislike the graphics but the new 3D ones look pretty good (although the music and gameplay of the originals absolutely trump the new one)

  • @Kirbyluver2 SNES was my favorite console, too... I loved the beautiful 2D art, and I felt that some of the most creative and innovative games came out of this era.

  • @Kirbyluver2 my nephew is only 11 yers old and he loved the snes way more than his wii.

like u said, its about the feel of the gameplay, not the graphics. when it comes to 2D, snes is the shit

  • @FuckDaMedia

not only 2d- snes was great with RPGs as well, it even had an FPS!

  • @Kirbyluver2 I know, wasn't Faceball 2000 great?

  • @themadmallard

    i meant doom, lol

  • @Sabin1337 So true.....and so sad .___.

  • @Sabin1337 your forgetting storyline!... virtually no games nowerdays have that :/

  • Completely agree, but having appropriate graphic level cant hurt.

  • @Sabin1337 very very very very well said :) I love you for this comment!

  • @Sabin1337 I think most people consider gameplay more important than the sound and music. <_<

  • @JonnyJinx04 im not tryin to be cocky here but it seems 49 people more like it than dislike, a game without good soundtrack makes the gameplay stale... thats why snes games were so much more epic because they placed music in the perfect places... whereas nowadays you dont get the the good music, i just dont get pumped like i used to is just my opinion but it seems many agree with me

  • @Sabin1337 I'm not trying to argue with you. I just think gameplay is a BIT more important, because it's absolutely necessary for a game to be good, more or less. Soundtrack is one of my favourite game aspects, but its not totally necessary.

Also, although the SNES is my fav console, I think plenty of newer games have a good soundtrack too.

  • @Sabin1337 Spoken like a true gamer of the ages.

  • @Sabin1337 the snow forrest music i could level up to forever !!!

  • @Sabin1337 Wouldnt surprise me if the next #1 game would be doing the laundry. It's only popular because the graphics were the best.

  • @Sabin1337 so true...

  • @Sabin1337 i think okami is one of the rare examples today where graphics are not the only thing that is focused. Due to the art-like graphics there is more focus on the epic musik, awsome story and the innovative gameplay( which works realy good on the wii).

  • @Mysterymelmoth But still the graphics played a huge role in that game. Okami looks are beautifull and added alot to the game. Look, you have those people who claim to hate graphics.. and people who overrate graphics. Graphics are nice. Secret of mana had really good graphics for SNES standards and added alot to the game. But also, the gameplay is great and the music is beautyful. Nowadays, the graphics are awesome.. but the music is forgetable, the gameplay unoriginal and the story dull.

  • @mirrorpiece there i have to agree wit extra credits that most people confuse, to keep it simple, "good" graphics with "beautiful" graphics. okami looks great but purly technical its graphics are vastly inferior to gears of war, wicht looks like a bloody pile of dirt, no matter how detailed said dirt is. Its also true that musik and story are rather dull in today mainstream games.

  • @Sabin1337 Yeah, and 100% was on how F%$^Ing hard this game was! Seriously, this game was beast...literally!

  • @Sabin1337 You're fucking nuts, man! Graphics are not how a game are judged, they're just NECESSARY. Notice how people never EVER review a game in such a way as to insult everything but its graphics then give it a recommendation. YES IT'S TRUE, CRYSIS HAS GOOD GRAPHICS. If you played the game, you'd realize that there's no QUOTA for QUALITY. The game is GOOD DESPITE ITS BEAUTY. Is that so hard to believe?!

  • @Sabin1337 "unlike now where all the kids base the quality of the game on is 100% graphics"... this is so true. I'm always disappointed when I read comments like, "the graphics suck, what a dumb game" as if the only thing that matters in a game is having the most modern graphics possible. Some of the best and most moving games I've ever played were simple 2D games.

  • @supershigi I think the even greater shame is the lack of appreciation show for such magnificent sprite work. Realism has its place in video games, but so does whimsical drawing like this, and other games that made the SNES such a great system. I can understand allowing graphical issues sway an opinion to a small degree, but the much larger emphasis must be on the gameplay and overall feel of the game, and this is spot on with both. It's our childhoods captured on a cartridge.

  • Um...just a little logical question:

IF Flammie REALLY is THE Mana Beast...

WHY is he rescuing you from the crashing Fortress in the End Credits when you just seconds ago would have beaten the Crap out of him? ^^

  • @Justforvisit Flammie is a mana beast, but NOT the same Mana Beast you fight in the end =)

  • Yaeh, I'm aware of that fact. That's why I put up this logical question in first place, to show them who have that theory that he IS the Mana Beast are completely wrong.

  • Well, it's Spoiler time =/

Flammie IS THE Mana Beast. But he is not awaken when you save him and not even when you go to the Flying fortress.

After the last Battle in Fortress, the Lich will let the corrupt mana he has absorbed escape (and dies in the process).

Flammie as the Mana Beast is the guardian of the Mana, and absorbs this corrupt mana, awakening Flammie's Powers. This forced wake, Drives Flammie's crazy and he what to destroy the Fortress with YOU on board.

  • You fight him. After you beat him, he uses his last life energy to send Randi (the boy) and Purim (the Girl) to a Safe place, And after sending they, he sends the Sprite to another place(see the credits), and Die. If you remember the ending, It's said the mana beast turned into snow.

  • Yeah and after you trashed him he returns and rescues you from the crushing fortress....C'mon guys, did NOONE of you paid some attention to the end movie of SoM? oô

  • Nice names for them! My names weren't as creative....

  • I've beat the game, but I did NOT know that.

  • such a classic song for a final boss. nothing compares out of any other square game.

  • "Wait...I thought Thanatos was the last boss...and I'm...oh no!... I'M OUT OF WALNUTS!!!!"

    Me as a child

  • @rogeruhler agreed LMAO and you couldnt retreat to restock

  • @rogeruhler haha nice, yeah...that sounds familiar :D

  • @rogeruhler Thanatos was way harder than the Mana Beast. What made the Mana Beast hard was the fact that you wasted all your items beating Thanatos -_-

  • @rogeruhler Thankfully I still have a couple Cup of Wi----OH NOES

  • Man.. listen to that BASS. Step aside Johnny Mynug.

  • soudns a like Sacrifice & Nuclear Fusion from Seiken Densetsu 3

  • other way around

  • Flammie was a mana beast.

It was like a latent gene in him that became active when the mana fortress was activated.

Yes Flammie was white, but when he became the mana beast, he turned purple.

  • Why do people keep thinking Flammie is the Mana Beast? The Mana Beast is purple, Flammie is white. Also Randi (main character) says Flammie was once a Mana Beast (which mean he evolved)

  • in this battle i was out of mp, healing stuff and mp recovery items....the last mana magic i could do was on me and i had only one chance to kill the mana beast....luckily with the last strike i could do i killed it =D......damn close but that made the fight even more epic to me

  • it's a really energetic/uplifting tune, almost like the one last thing you have to do, the final jigsaw piece of the puzzle. whereas the dark lich theme was dark, this is more an epic battle against a great creature.

  • This isn't Flammie. It's the Mana Beast, they spoke about it a lot in the game.

Awesome boss battle, fucking amazing music.

  • Damn girl! Damn! This is the most epic battle theme EVER!! I crap my pants every single time I hear this without fail!! This song is the "brown noise" for me!

  • This sounds quite similar to Sacrifice part 3 from Seiken Densetsu 3(the next game). I still love both. They are both epic themes for ending bosses.

  • I think i make a remix from this :D

  • What Dante says in one word "...Showdown!!" You get the mana sword finally! But you have to kill poor Flammie... Theres Meridian Dance and then Meridian Child--Hmm. 5 on 5! I rate it.

  • wasn't flammie a white dragon?? i DO remember flammie was not a mana beast, thus it isn't flammie

  • Flammy was A mana beast THE mana beast is The Mana Beast

  • Yup...but I dunno...I feel like I miss dramatic tubular Bells in this version....for some reason I got them in my mind with this track...hm perhaps another MIDI Version? Or are there difference in the Localisation of the music between US & EU? ?_? Or is it just a too long time since I played this game? ^^ Hum....*Thinking hard*

  • one of the easiest battles in the game xD

but with the music its a cool fight^^

  • Mana YING! Mana YANG! Mana Sword reactivated to FULL POWER!

  • and then it´s piece of cake to beat him ...

  • And it's still fun bbecause alone the music is so genious for it's time.....there's also another version with bells that also sounds really great :)

    Epic Piece Of Music

  • Ok where did you find a bell version of meridian dance? Im looking a lot all over youtube and dont find anything

  • @NeroTheDarklord Hehe, I solved this problem a while ago, it's a midi version of that song I have, called ''Prayer of the Arctic Circle'', another name for Meridian Dance (which I like more somehow because it sounds more mysterious and more fitting for a final battle). This version has some deep tone bells in the introduction of the theme which really gives a great feeling about like "Hell yeah, we've come so far, now we can't fail""

  • Ok thank you i finally found that version. But you know to me it doesent sound so much fitting for a final battle especialy against such a powerful creature like the mana beast. The music doesent feel strong and dangerous enough

  • idea behind it is that youve just destroyed the empire, the evil thanatos, and everything the game has to throw at you and out of left field this random monster is threating the whole world

the song dictates that you nor the monster doesnt give a fuck and someone is about to get an asswhooping. like i said, best final boss music of any game, based on theme and circumstance of said boss

  • The Mana Beast doesn't come from nothing. When the story of the Mana Fortress is told in the game, it's mentioned that the Mana Beast took it down and the battle razed the world. The whole point of preventing the Fortress from rising was to keep that from happening again.

There's even the surprise of finding out the Mana Beast was Flammie all along.

  • Flammie isn't the last boss. Flammie is A mana beast, not THE mana beast in question.

  • The full name of this song is "Prayer of the Arctic Circle".

All the names of the SoM soundtrack are almost like poetry :)
