I miss him so much. When I worked for the govenment, I was the CFC rep and did a display in memory of his passing and to contriubte to his illness to help others.
He was always my favorite, favorite. I have so many of albums.
Some great comments here. Let me add that we all have to thank Maurice Ravel for composing 'Daybreak' from "Daphnis & Chloe." That's the source melody of this song. :)
Back in my DJ days we used to call Bob Goulet "Larry Lungs." :)
@kcbill54..sorry, my keys keep locking up..it is Matt Monro, the great British singer..listen to his version of "Walk Away" here on You Tube, then you decide..
Goulet was in the wrong place and time. His nearly-operatic voice would have suited Broadway in the 1940s and 50s very well. But he came along a little later, when such "legit" voices (like those, for example, of Alfred Drake, Howard Keel, John Raitt and Harve Presnell) were less in demand, because the Bway musical composers were writing for lighter voices.
And the big-voiced Goulet wasn't at his best in pop love songs --- he was OUTSTANDING in the context of a character --
Mr Goulet was one of the male singers of his era that could really belt out a ballad. I also enjoyed Dean Martin, he could sing more comercial type songs but yet it was a joy to hear him sing too. And lets not forget Perry Como and Al Martino.
When "Camelot" was first on B'way, I remember a reporter asking Mr. Burton how it felt to be at the top of his game -- one of the worlds most beautiful speaking voices, most acclaimed actor, and peerless in his profession. Mr. Burton responded by saying that to REALLY make him perfect and allow him to feel that he was truly peerless, he would have to be able to open his mouth and sing with Robert Goulet's voice!
@mvp019 Funny, I see myself sitting in backseat of ca with my parents and sister, driving in Las Vegas. The movie, and probably the stage play, were out at that time.
Yet another example of how there used to be real music sung by people with real talent. It's hard not to feel good listening to this wonderful song. I hum it to myself and it never fails to life my spirits.

I understand why ELVIS did not like this guy he is out of central casting for the pompus lounge singer with bad breath. Im sure hes a nice guy but if you want to really hear someone belt this song out SAMMY DAVIS JR LIVE IN AMSTERDAM with a bossa nova beat hands down is the best!!!
I saw Robert sing the lead in a touring production on South Pacfic. What a voice. and those piercing blue eyes! I liked his short lived series " Blue light" from the 60's
If you never had the chance to seeRobert Goulet in the Theatre, you really missed something grand. The finest baritone voice to ever come off a Broadway stage. A wonderful nightclub performer and great friend. He sings this song supurb!!!
When I was a kid I heard someone singing this song as they were walking down the street. I remember I in the kitchen and the window was open. I could hear the singing from the street outside.
How lovely to find this! My father would sing this every Sunday morning as he headed off to the pub; starting at the top of the stairs and finishing the song on the last step! Thank you for posting it here. :-)
We saw him sing the lead in Man of La Mancha. He wasn't much on the acting part of the role, but who cared? It was ROBERT GOULET singing The Impossible Dream! This is one of my favorite songs by him.
If anybody searches "sammy davis jr. amsterdam" here on Youtube can see a devishly good version of this song performed by one of the greatest entertainers in recent memory towards the latter part of the vid.
That really awkward moment when I think I'm related to him..

Elvis' trouble was that he had no one to tell him what to do,
be hiw own doctors, or whomever. He was way too
spoiled. The guy literally had it made but still not happy.
