Naruto ULtimate Ninja Storm Gameplay (CP) Training

Hey. I just got this game today. I was on Free Battle and wanted to do 1 on 1 battle with the COM but it keeps popping up with the support characters. I played Storm 2 first and it has both options. Is it because this game is only Team Matches? I'd appreciate it if you can help me with my question :)
