  • how can i purchase this concert dvd/cd/anything?

  • Bodhisattva Bert...

  • Fawnface, you're a star!! RIP Bert, loved you man.

  • I love you Bert... see you there

  • RIP Bert

  • bye bye Bert

  • not enough volume on elec. gtr....sadly / still great performance

  • hêh_î_fèël_sÕ_løNËlý_tÓÐÀÿ

  • Bert is the coolest cat. I mean the guy is just so f**king cool. I would have loved to have seen The Pentangle back at this time. I love Bert's solo stuff too. He really was the closest thing to Dylan outside of Dylan himself. The Scottish Dylan, or was Dylan the American Bert?

  • that is one cool looking set design

  • @juliedog464 Just wonderful time warp stuff from Pentangle and Jaquie looks really enchanting!!,,,,Just how much of their work is hidden away in the vaults?

  • Surprised this ain't out on dvd yet.The BBC have 100's if not 1000's of hours of superb and expertly filmed/recorded music squirrled away.....apparently!

  • @double531 I remember the BBC series Take Three Girls contained incidental music by Pentangle(some of the best I have ever heard)......perhaps this has been lost forever!!

  • @DaveSquarey08 .....Dave I remember the telly series well, but I am sure this concert footage is still kicking about the vaults at the Beeb, why it has never been released as a dvd for Pentangle fans,God knows. The picture and audio quality is excellent.

Maybe fawnface can shed some light?

  • Danny Thompson is one of absolute Best Bass players out there. Check out his work with Darrel Scott as well as his own Jazz CDs. Great stuff!

  • He's Danny Thompson, one of the absolute best upright bassists to ever come out of England. If you read your album credits carefully, you'll notice he's been around in all kinds places, in particular on the work of Richard Thompson. I had the pleasure of running live sound for those two guys at a performance (just the two of them, no less) and it was amazing. Danny is a man of few words, as his stage demeanor sort of suggests. I wish I had tried talking with him more, though.

  • Funny how no one mentions that incredibly talented bass player!!

I've been listening to the Pentangle since Cruel Sister and Basket of Light were new and never really noticed until I saw these videos. The man is AMAZING.

  • @Fishmonger1966

That bassist is super cool, plucking some sweet harmonics and rockin it!!

  • They have such a tight pocket that it almost seems like they are using a loop pedal near the end. lol. That was incredible. :D

  • Pentangle came from Jazz backgrounds and the rhythms on Basket of Light are all jazz rhythms.

  • it migth be "prog folk" in my opinion :S

  • IMHO, (And I saw them live back in the day) Renbourn is the better geetar player

  • so cool!!

  • Yeah, she totally wishes she was Sandy Denny. Copies her vocal style across the board.

Bert Jansch is a genius, though. The best parts of "Sunshine Superman" owe alot to him.

  • Niether Denny or McShee invented this vocal style. It goes back, way back. Both ladies are wonderful in my book.

  • Danny FTW.

  • oh god ...

  • I don`tknow if somebody ever called this kind of music " FOLK JAZZ", or JAZZ FOLK" ?

I don't really care about classifications in every kind of music , cause for me is music simply MUSIC !!!

  • they call their style strange folk,,, but this song is a bit jazzed

  • It was the great Louis Armstrong who said "All music is Folk Music, I ain't never heard no horse sing a song."

  • I want Pentangle's Light Flight played at my funeral - nuff said...:O))))))))

  • Sounds like psychedelic jazz to me. Kind of cool really.

  • Well it is Bert Jansch after all, do you really think that would not come into play?

  • Sweet!

  • Jansch is seriously up their with the greats as far as guitar playing goes.

  • Does this even need stating? :-p

  • Ha ha, I guess not.

  • I love Jansch for his banjo playing.

But Renbourn seriously tears it up with with those bends!

  • Bert not only plays nice banjo, but also dulcimer. He is great.

  • very kind....love is a basket of light

  • kissed my best kiss to it

  • number one on the 25 most played chart of my I

    pod

  • I hate that this is one of the main points in my comment on such a LOVELY song from such a LOVELY band, but I just can't help to think about how extriemely hot Jansch is! Combined with he's wonderful voice performing wonderful music - argh, I love him!

  • Great tune! This is different version than what is on, Basket of Light". BOTH are great!

  • Brilliant performance

  • think it was Danny that held the whole thing together :(

  • danny is my cuzin

  • Bert looks like a farmer Ha! Ha!

  • Danny Thompson is AMAZING - a great bassist!

  • woh really jazzy

  • Fucking Amazing!!!!

  • It takes 2 to tango,

but it takes 5 to pentango....

THE PENTANGLE HAS REUNITED in 2008!

  • lol, hilarious, pentango what a concept, lol

  • why thanx A-D! Now if we could only get them to do the pentango once again here in the states, not that would be pure bliss, giving reason for a new holiday, to be named Blissmas on the day they 1st play the USA.

  • @cosmiccarl without bert and john...

  • Bert's hair is priceless

    great video, thank you

  • Thanks...

  • Many thanks for your videos ! Pentangle is fantastic!!!

  • Great, great, great!

  • Bert is possessed you are right..ain't he just beautiful...The whole band defy gravity

  • He is sexy! I love Pentangle :)

  • Just awsome music!

  • how the fuck does Bert manage to do that insane picking, and sing and harmonize so effortlessly? The guys possessed!

Brilliant track from a great album. Jacqui..was there ever a voice so pure? only Annie Briggs and Sandy Denny stand up to the mighty Mcshees vocal prowess.

  • Your're right about all of that, but don't forget Annie Haslam of Renaissance when talking about pure voices.

  • you know I've only heard Renaisance once at a stoned party years ago, and the thing that stuck in my mind was that the guy singing was Keith Relf from the Yardbirds, off whom I am a huge fan. So maybe it's time for me to check out some Renaisance. So you could be right. I forgot to mention June Tabor and Norma Watterson..but when it comes to female singers, none compare to the mighty Nina Simone..different style but what a natural. Cheers for the reply, keep listening to the good music...anthony

  • Bert Jansch is still touring! I can't believe it, he's even older than I am(and 10 times the guitar player!)

    Great stuff, Bert!

  • Bet this guy ran a recording studio for some B+ music school w/ a ton of admirers. Good w/ the lights. Look even during that ezcellent solo by SOMEONE ELSE they gotta focus one pretty boy. Amazing how many groups never made it because of the demand for pretty boys at the helm. And I'm an old pretty boy.

  • I'd love to hear John Renbourn singing 'Another Monday' again!

  • Absolutely fantastic.

  • Thanks so much for these wonderful songs and awesome videos.

  • How long were they together?

  • Hmm... well they went apart and came back together various times. They also had a different line-up in some of the 80s and 90s.

But the band was orignally around from 67 to 73 :)

  • The quality on this video is amazig. Thanks so much!

  • wonderful, takes me back to mosely, the bull and......hell, my memory has failed....

  • Wonderful stuff - a unique sound that hasn't dated. Many thanks for posting.

  • Fawnface - we mere mortals are forever indebted to your unquestionable magnificence for posting these clips.

    Thanks! :)

  • Aye, Fawnface. You're a star for putting this up here. Glad to see there are others keeping the Pentangle torch burning!

  • Just heard that the original line-up reformed - albeit briefly - for the BBC Folk on 2 Awards 2007, where they won a Lifetime Achievement Award. For me, they redefined the very purpose of music. May their light shine forever.

  • Fond memories.. this is from their Basket of Light album, which was my first Pentangle-Bert Jansch purchase. I still have it, along with others, in mint condition. Thanks Fawnface.

  • I think I have this video. I bought it a while back, its mainly focused on John but it shows some of his performances with Pentangle. Might be I got it at Zulu Records. John played once at the WISE Hall or the Rogue Folk Club in '96 I think. He also played at the Folk Music Festival in 98.

Don't believe he has graces our presense here in Vancouver, Canada for a while. I hate myself for missing him the times i knew about it.

  • Thank you so much! Put more pentangle and Renbourn on! And soon!

    Good job, Canada

  • Thank you, Fawn

Loved this band for over thirty years. I've had a great afternoon seeing them perform for the first time on your posts.

  • fawnface, you have done a huge favor to the world by uploading this concert. Thank you so much. Early Pentangle was best ever.

  • Yeah, St. Fawn, I know. :)

  • Hell, I'm not Catholic but I'd send a few Hail Fawnies your way for this milady. I never thought I'd ever see Pentangle again. Thank you! Would January 15th be ok to petition Rome as St Fawn's day?

    Frankentaru

  • Wow, not seen this before. Great memories. As always, Renbourn is exceptional and understated. Classic stuff. Thanks.
