  • Replying to G7VEW (a year late!): the Blackpool stunt took place in 1927. The band played Me and Jane in a Plane while flying low around Blackpool Tower in an Imperial Airways plane. The sheet music was indeed dropped on to the crowds below while crooners on the promenade sang the lyrics through megaphones.

  • Thank you so much for that! Better late than never, I really appreciate it. I'd love to have been in Blackpool in those days, its very different now!

    A catchy song! Thanks again!

    From "Peter The Teenage Pensioner"

  • Years ago, when I was in my late teens, I worked in an office with a guy who had heard this song, as a 'modern' song. I like it the first time he sang it and so I got him to teach me the words. At lunch time, on a dreich day, we'd sing it together and thump out the beat on our desks. It was brilliant fun.

  • What a wonderful story! Which year was that, approximately?

  • Hi metrOpunk. Just saw your reply, sorry.

What year?? Late 1960s, early 1970s, I'm guessing.

  • See the Panama Cafe Orchestra version of this number on Pridex8.

  • I have the Original Schellack record. It was published by "His Masters Voice" in Middlesx, England. The number of this record is "B5336"

  • Does any-one know if the sheet music from this song was dropped from a plane in Blackpool, England, for a publicity stunt in the 1930s?

  • Hi

Is there anyone who can help me on the songtekst please?

  • Thanks for posting. I've got an old audio cassette recording of my late Mum singing this.

  • This is a really random video too...

  • Great song!
