I think it'd be wise to use an other biner (through the small hole and the bite of rope) to prevent the bite from slipping over the smaller hole of the 8. Because if that happened, because of a slack line, the climber would be unsecured/on a loose line. The extra biner doesnt' interfear with the rope going through or locking when the climber falls.
