  • Jared do you feel comfortable with that bar?

  • yeah I feel ok, I do not plan to use it all the time, but i am planning to train with it for the next 8-12 weeks probably replacing barbell to help strengthen the lower half of my bench press. The ROM is insane.

  • I do not know where you can buy them as this was at my gym, but my friend Bretzzer happens to have one, so you can try asking him.

  • i can not do these i tried them at the gym yesterday and nearly dislocated my shoulder, my shoulders are in a lot of pain after doing cambered bench presses.

  • well not everyone can take the range of motion it is probably the same ROM as deep dumbbell flyes which people cannot handle as well usually, mazurek says he uses a 1 inch board I think when he does them, because his shoulders cannot take the full ROM either.

  • my shoulders are doing alot better now, i might not be used to going that deep on them, for me i feel like benching goes deep enough,

  • Maybe, I wish I knew, the ROM never bugs me usually but maybe I have shorter arms then you at my short 5'7 height, i got away maxing on shoudler press, flat bench, and incline in the same day all with the cambered bar, it didn't bug me one bit.

  • If it continues to bother you, you can try not going down all the way with the cambered bar or use 1-2 inch boards like mazurek does, even going an extra 1-2 inchs would be beneficial for helping the lower half of your lift.

  • i have to hand it too you jared your a smart man lol.

yeah i might try doing them on 1 to 2 inch boards and see what happens.

the bottom of my bench needs some improvement

  • well nerd is at the end of my name :P

mazurek is the one that gave me the idea, so props go to him really, he says he cannot go down the full 3 inches himself, and uses 1-2 inch boards so he only goes only 1-2 inches but the guy benches 500 raw and says his lower half is also his weak point like myself, so it obviously must be working regardless if he can;t go down the full extra 3 inches.

  • and i tought it was just an excuse to not fully bench =P

  • nope some peoples rotators cuffs can't handle it.

  • great job dude. and thats really weird what your camera did at the end lol. I gotta admit it did look kinda sick though =P

  • my camera has done that a few times, its so strange the new clips overlap with the old clips, it just seems to randomly happen, it screwed up my 125 curl footage today, but I was happy to at ;east get my 235 footage with the cambered bar.

  • good work!

  • Good job! What's your goal on these?

  • didn't really have one, I guess 250-275, I may do these more often to get my barbell incline to 300-315.

  • awesome job jared you got 205 at 90.

  • 205 at 90???

  • degrees.

  • I am confused, this bench was more like 45 degrees not 90 degrees, if it was 90 degrees this would be a shoulder press.

  • lol. youre really confused????

i said yo ucould hit 205 cambered on a 90 degree.

  • 205 on seated shoulder press would be good a future goal maybe, but I can't even do 205 touching my chest with a barbell right now.

  • I beg to differ!!!!!!!

  • maybe to chin height, but not a chest touch.

  • Lookinbg strong! Hows the training going? You started the 5-3-1 yet?

  • still getting some maxes on some lifts, will probably start next week on some, I wanted to attempt 360 again on bench before i started it, but I failed, so will be starting soon, but probably will do two cycles first with a cambered bar then switch back to barbell.

  • i started it today and i sucked at my l;ast set so i did it again and im trying it again im really fucking up the routine. how many times were you able to rep your last seet on the first week. i only got 205x9!!!!!!!!!!! lol this sucks,d

  • Like for deadlifts, when I started the program I got 425 for 10. And when I ust finished my third cycle not too long ago I did 435 for11. So I know my strength has definately increased. Just give it some time. I think it might be cuz your not used to doing higher reps.

  • didnt yo ustart 5/3/1 a long time ago. you only gained 10 pounds and one rep lol. but yo udidnt answer my question. your first day when you had to do 85 percent of your training max did you get more than 9? was 425 85 percent or 95 percent? i only got it 9 times!!

btw are yo ustill subbed to me you seem to never bless me with your comments.

  • I started it about 8 weeks ago. On my first day I got 11 with 85 percent. But then again I wasn't coming back from an injury. Just stick with it pregress will come! And yes Im still subbed to you...lol

  • I plan to use this program for 8 weeks with cambered bar flat bench, incline, and maybe even shoulder press, I got all my maxes so I am ready to go, that is why I maxed on lat pulldowns and shoudler presses, I want to get a lot of lifts stronger, even my curls, I want to hit 135+ strict, and hope to powersportscurl 180-200 eventually time will tell, I hope to hit at least 8-10 on my first cycle.

  • 205 x 9 actually makes perfect sense, it is a 265 max, which is what you recently just did, you probably just aren't use to high rep sets, you seem to be good at 4-6 rep sets, I say just move on to 215 next week and try to tie 9 reps or hit around 8-10, you at least beat the minimum of 5 reps so at be happy with that.
