God damn.. Paul Newman was an amazing actor. Kinda funny that i first heard about him by working at McDonalds, and seeing his name on the salad dressings there. :P
@SabbraCadabra Hahaha, yeah I did the same when I was a kid. I couldn't understand why my parents like the dressing with the "old man" on the front. Looking back at ALL of what Paul Newman did and who he affected, I am realize that he was a giant among insects.
@321godson Tom Hanks can play anything too. His second movie in 1984 was Splash and he did a movie almost every year after that and except for a few they were all comedys and even the dramas were funny. I think this is the first movie where he plays a completely serious role. He looks like he was made to be a killer.
Newman was brilliant in this, the smiling, benevolent pater familias barely concealing the fact that he'd probably kill you as soon as look at you without blinking an eye.
man tom hanks got to be one of best,luckiest whatever you want to call him , it's amazing his collection of movies we'll look back in years how amazing this guy really is .
@Marchanzen Good question. Probably a throw off to ALL of their lifestyle. We act like we have love and appreciation for each other.The perception is that we have true values of the good life, the arts, the idea that the adopted son is truly on the same sheet of music with me.............. fact is... it's all a LIE. We are murderous thugs. Conner is commenting on the irony of it all.
@Marchanzen It's a comment on his feelings of jealousy towards Michael, being the favourite "son", despite him, Connor, being the actual son and not receiving a fraction of the respect Michael gets.
Yeah, this country has fallen ass over tea kettle. I thought my generation was bad, but it got even worse! lmao Have to look at it with a sense of humor, it ain't gonna get any better.
the trio of mr. rooney, his son, and o'sullivan (tom hanks). reminds me exactly of the trio in eastern promises. the crazy trigger happy son, the calculating boss, and the protagonist bad ass- nikolai luzhin (viggo mortensen).
i like everyone's interpretations of the scene where mr. rooney and michael are playing the piano duet :). i myself see it as the cause of the film's main conflict portrayed in one short scene. michael is the one next to mr. rooney, assisting him, helping him in his intentions whilst conner, mr. rooney's son, jealously glares from a distance.
I think he's talking about the piano scene when he is sitting to his right and assisting him. I think that is meant to be some sort of symbolism that he is his righthard man helping him get things done.
no that was a tool to show that tom hanks was closer to mr rooney than his own son daniel craig who was standing off in the crowd. such as how after that seen daniel craig says cause it's all so fucking hilarious to the kid cause he cant stand it.
I must add to the piano scene that I think the character Daniel Craig plays is jealous by the fact that his father treats Mr Sullivan more of a son than he treats him. It's all so fucking hysterical......
One of my favourite movies with some of my favourite actors, especially Paul Newman;
One day, when cinematographer Conrad L. Hall was setting up a shot of Paul Newman, Hall looked through his viewfinder and began to cry. When asked what was wrong, he just said, "He was so beautiful. He was so beautiful."
He buffed up for the first Bond and then slimmed down a little for the second because he said he thought he'd gotten too big to be properly fit. Take a look at his other work (like Layer Cake) he is naturally slim.
I love 5:11 ~ 6:50. From noisy to quiet. Everyone came around to see them played the piano and remained silence while Daniel Craig was smiling. Tom hanks and Paul Newman played the piano. After that was the applause. The best scene i would say. They are great actors.
I thought there was a scene where one of the boys sees a man and a woman together in one of the romms of the house. Was there such a scene? If so, who were the people?
They are yanks. You can tell by their accents. Just because their ancestors came from Ireland doesn't make them Irish anymore. Check their passports. lol
