  • I love this movie!!!

  • Kid - "Why are you always smiling?"

Connor - "Because it's all so fucking histerical."

One of the greatest movie lines EVER.

  • Funny this was this first time I remember seeing Daniel Craig in a film. Such a creepy fucking character.

  • a movie with many subtleties

  • God damn.. Paul Newman was an amazing actor. Kinda funny that i first heard about him by working at McDonalds, and seeing his name on the salad dressings there. :P

  • @SabbraCadabra Hahaha, yeah I did the same when I was a kid. I couldn't understand why my parents like the dressing with the "old man" on the front. Looking back at ALL of what Paul Newman did and who he affected, I am realize that he was a giant among insects.

  • jon rooney.... (rip paul newman) king of his time.. u guys notice how a versatile daniel craig is... very impressive...

  • @321godson Tom Hanks can play anything too. His second movie in 1984 was Splash and he did a movie almost every year after that and except for a few they were all comedys and even the dramas were funny. I think this is the first movie where he plays a completely serious role. He looks like he was made to be a killer.

  • Paul Newman and Tom Hanks. 2 of the greatest actors of our time. Judging by my screen name, you can guess who another one of my favorite actors is.

  • Comment removed

  • @whatever858 are you a comedian then?? Because the kid says to him why are you always smiling?

  • NEWMAN still got it, forever COOL, maybe webtype has no meaning but i must repeat u were- no u r and will be forever great Paul

  • R I P ALL BOOTLEGGERS 1920/1933

  • 4:19

Those people know how to party. Love this scene.

  • why are they drinking and celebrating at someones funeral?

  • @deathclock2690 dude, they're Irish.

  • @deathclock2690 thats how the irish use to mourn their dead, drinking and celebrating their passing into the spirit world

  • BOOTLEGGERS WERE THE REAL GANGSTERS SO LONG TO PROHIBITION THE VOLSTEAD ACT 1920/1933

  • R I P PAUL NEWMAN THIS FILM IS A CLASSIC SO LONG TO PROHIBITION

  • :D its james bond, the new ugly one

  • anyone know how this did when it first came out? i really wish i had the chance to see this on the big screen. one of my all time favorites.

  • what's the book little Michael is reading?

  • @dymekgamer

    'the lone ranger'

  • Daniel Craig is such a dick!

  • Newman was brilliant in this, the smiling, benevolent pater familias barely concealing the fact that he'd probably kill you as soon as look at you without blinking an eye.

  • Love the Model A.s

  • this was before the elite destroyed the american culture

  • man tom hanks got to be one of best, luckiest whatever you want to call him , it's amazing his collection of movies we'll look back in years how amazing this guy really is .

  • i LOVE the Irish culture!!!!!

  • What does Connor mean by saying Its just so fucking hysterical?

  • @Marchanzen Good question. Probably a throw off to ALL of their lifestyle. We act like we have love and appreciation for each other. The perception is that we have true values of the good life, the arts, the idea that the adopted son is truly on the same sheet of music with me.............. fact is... it's all a LIE. We are murderous thugs. Conner is commenting on the irony of it all.

  • @Marchanzen It's a comment on his feelings of jealousy towards Michael, being the favourite "son", despite him, Connor, being the actual son and not receiving a fraction of the respect Michael gets.

  • The piano music makes more sense to me at a funeral than the over-jolly dancing..

  • @americanjedi77 wow, youre right

  • is that blond guy the new james bond?

  • @Taylorwest626

    Daniel Craig

  • @Taylorwest626 yeah that blonde guy is Daniel Craig, who plays James Bond in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace

  • its been me and my boy classsic

  • i hate rotten people

  • Little Liam Aiken (Peter) has perfect dramatic timing

  • kids are generally better actors than adults. look at bradd pitt, he cant act for shit. he plays the same role- tyler durden.

  • "Because it's all so fucking hysterical" Brilliant quote if u ask me!

  • @mcjansen amazing been looking for it on video for a while now

  • Did you see the marmalade jam on the table? that's how they did back then. An old fashion american breakfast

  • Peter's is how my daughter is she would walk up to strangers and shake their hands she is very friendly

  • what`s the name of the irish song they`re playing when they`re dancing?

  • yeeze chizzle dizzle thanzy forzy upzload hihihihihi

  • crazy micks

  • @americanjedi77 wow ive never looked at it that way you just made me think

  • is it just me or was everyone crazier back then

  • Yeah, this country has fallen ass over tea kettle. I thought my generation was bad, but it got even worse! lmao Have to look at it with a sense of humor, it ain't gonna get any better.

  • haha my aunt is in this movie

  • lucky!!!!!!!!!!! who? an extra? or a main?

  • she's an extra. they filmed most of this movie in my town

  • thats really awesome!

  • Cause its all so fucking hysterical.

  • Was that Ciarán Hinds at 0:40 ??

  • @SV2609 yep, hes a very underrated actor. Should take more lead roles.

  • wow freud was right.....people cant just grow up rather than watching the movie people just respond to stupid ass insult from keyboard warriors

  • Michael sounded british at 8:29

  • Paul Newman was a great actor

  • the trio of mr. rooney, his son, and o'sullivan (tom hanks). reminds me exactly of the trio in eastern promises. the crazy trigger happy son, the calculating boss, and the protagonist bad ass- nikolai luzhin (viggo mortensen).

  • Paul Newman quals AWESOME

  • fookin mic's gotta love em!

  • couldn't of said it better brother

  • D minor. The saddest of all keys.

  • 6:50 to 7:10 is the best line in the whole movie

  • Happy Father's Day, all !!

    ;-)

  • Totally agree, decko20sj. You've nailed it.

  • i like everyone's interpretations of the scene where mr. rooney and michael are playing the piano duet :). i myself see it as the cause of the film's main conflict portrayed in one short scene. michael is the one next to mr. rooney, assisting him, helping him in his intentions whilst conner, mr. rooney's son, jealously glares from a distance.

  • A good rollicking old Irish wake, yes!

So this movie is about the Irish mafia. I'm hooked.

  • thats really not symbolism at all

    --------------

I think he's talking about the piano scene when he is sitting to his right and assisting him. I think that is meant to be some sort of symbolism that he is his righthard man helping him get things done.

  • no that was a tool to show that tom hanks was closer to mr rooney than his own son daniel craig who was standing off in the crowd. such as how after that seen daniel craig says cause it's all so fucking hilarious to the kid cause he cant stand it.

  • ohhh i get it

  • the irish mob is badass this film is great

  • good movie

  • when theyre playin piano???

  • tom hanks is the bosss right hand man symbolism

  • thats really not symbolism at all

  • I must add to the piano scene that I think the character Daniel Craig plays is jealous by the fact that his father treats Mr Sullivan more of a son than he treats him. It's all so fucking hysterical......

  • damn james bond is mean in this movie.

  • I love this movie, it's so well done. But sadly, they didn't put the irish dance song on the soundtrack, so I don't know what song it is.

  • @jish55 the song is called old torn petticoat

  • @jish55

Old Torn Petticoat, The Reel of Momentum

    performed by Irish Muscians

  • @jish55 The song is the Siege of Ennis - its a set dance.

  • that piano bit between them two is so powerful.................

  • "Its all so fucking hysterical"

  • "Why are you always smiling?"

  • rip paul

  • @3:48 --> James Bond to the right (Daniel Craig)

  • P.S. that's the stupidest, most obvious comment I've written. I'm sure you all knew that (facepalms himself).

  • Ha ha, you're really weird.

  • The piano scene is so beautiful

  • The piano scene is a great scene.

    One of my favourite movies with some of my favourite actors, especially Paul Newman;

One day, when cinematographer Conrad L. Hall was setting up a shot of Paul Newman, Hall looked through his viewfinder and began to cry. When asked what was wrong, he just said, "He was so beautiful. He was so beautiful."

    RIP Paul Newman

  • @shauneking wasn't hall given a posthumous Oscar for this film?? if so, a fitting tribute i think!

  • @GreenMaserati71 He was alive for a good bit after this film came out and after that years oscars

  • @shauneking sure he did bitch

  • The actor who plays Michael is Tyler Hoechlin. He doesn't do much acting anymore because he plays baseball for a university.

  • who is the boy? not the one who says "what does dad do" but the other one. he's the last oen to be shown in this scene.

  • Did Daniel Craig lose weight for this role or did he just buff up for Bond?

  • He buffed up for the first Bond and then slimmed down a little for the second because he said he thought he'd gotten too big to be properly fit. Take a look at his other work (like Layer Cake) he is naturally slim.

  • its all so fuckin histarical

  • Great Movie,

  • I love 5:11 ~ 6:50. From noisy to quiet. Everyone came around to see them played the piano and remained silence while Daniel Craig was smiling. Tom hanks and Paul Newman played the piano. After that was the applause. The best scene i would say. They are great actors.

  • i saw this movie once in german and liked it very much

now finding it againe and learnig with it english is great

thank you very much for uploading this bro

  • I loved 8:36-8:38. :D

  • lol yeah

  • The piano duet is one of the greatest and most

powerful scenes in modern film. Amazing.

  • paul newman is amazing. at any age.

  • Daniel Craig is a cool actor but a shit Bond. he's best suited to roles such as he plays in this.

  • yeah layer cake is his best film

  • great film

  • I thought there was a scene where one of the boys sees a man and a woman together in one of the romms of the house. Was there such a scene? If so, who were the people?

  • the guy at 2.10 is in sum of all fears

  • cool

  • are they greek

  • there all Irish didnt you hear the music!!

  • They are yanks. You can tell by their accents. Just because their ancestors came from Ireland doesn't make them Irish anymore. Check their passports. lol

  • lol

  • whats wrong with daniel craig? i mean he doesnt look the best in this movie nor does he play the best kind of character but hes a decent actor

  • haha james bond

  • oh yes, Daniel Craig looks so stupid.

  • the cutest part in this movie is when that little red head girl is dancing. at 4:38...oh soo cute.

  • paul newman is awesome in this movie.

  • This film beautifully uses the element of tension. There is a lot of great tension seen in some of these scenes.

  • this movie is like cinemetography 101. a total classic, one of my top five forever.

  • Damn these guys are all excellent actors. Paul Newman, Tom Hanks and Daniel Craig all kick ass. I think Daniel is the truly underrated actor here - he play Connor's role with a quiet kind of insanity that personally totally unnerves me.

  • It is called "Piano Duet"

    composed by Thomas Newman

you could just search Road to Perdition Duet to find the score

  • are they irish or italian??

  • They're Irish.

  • Irish.

  • They're Irish.

  • Oh by the way, they're Irish

  • And they're Irish too

  • But I'm pretty sure they're Irish though, no?

  • what is that song they play called? sounds very good.

  • that song mike and john play together is beautiful

  • Liam is ADORABLE FOREVER.when he was born and always. And IT IS NECESSARY TO THINK THAT A NICE FACE IS NOT ALONE, HE HAS OTHER QUALITIES, HIS KINDNESS, HIS SMILE, AND MUCH MORE. I LIKE HIS PERSONALITY. ONLY THEY THINK THAT IS PRETTY. And I AM CHARMED WITH HIS DOG KES, IT EQUAL TO MY DOG CALLED PEARL, BUT IT IS MORE RATHER FAT.:P

  • Little Liam is ADORABLE! "Why are you always smiling?" XDXD

  • hysterical not hilarious...

  • cause it's all so fucking hilarious...
