This was off of a classic album. You could just put the needle on and let it play. This is one of my all-time favorite albums, and also one of the most underrated albums. It was positive and intelligent music. To kaygees7, you guys really put it down. I am glad to know that you have taken your voice to a higher calling. I wish more artist would respond to posts, because believe it or not, people would like to hear from them.
Im still alive and kicking thanks be to God. I can only remember how we would make folks move by the music but more so it was about the message that we delivered. And It is true this song is about our situation and our struggle as a people and nation of all races. We need God in our lives to sustain us and guide us. keep LOVE alive, keep the faith and TEACH OUR YOUNG BROTHERS AND SISTERS THE TRUTH
Thank you all for your comments, I particularly like the one by "freein2339" I am a preacher now... We always believe that our music had to have a message, I guess that is why we didn't get as big as the other groups, but we were more concerned about educating our audience than keeping them dancing.
people would actually stop and stare at me in amazement when I would stop and have this song blasting in my car, by the way it was a 1973 Ford Mach I Mustang convertible, I could actually see people trying to dance to it, bring back the 70's again I implore you oh mighty god, for we are deserving of this beautiful music and the cars yet once more!!!
yo buss it. i sample anything. i steal anything. i have no musical ability. i let the machines do all my work for me. why play an instrument when you've already played it for me? Thanks for putting in all that work. I love your music.
@dub2 At least you're honest. But it's good to learn an instrument...... then you'll appreciate creating your own stuff. Fuck paying someone else when you can make the money yourself and it all belongs to you!
Kay Gee's my Jersey City Family, use to see these guys do shows on The Show Mobile on the streets of J.C in the 70s. The Duncan Projects ,Curries Woods.
Yes, I survived but I was grounded for a week. Also, If you a searching for a user name then you should try "Beefaroniisdelicious". I wish it were my user name.
This is still a great album. Produced by Ronald Bell from Kool and the Gang for Gang Records. Ronald plays some awesome sax solos on it as well. From a time when music was real.
Yeah, That makes sense. It has that "Cool And The Gang (pre-Emir Deodato produced) feel" to it- I wonder if this LP was engineered and mixed by Bob Clearmountain.
Some of you youngheads need to listen to the words very carefully, This cut came out during times very similar to now., recession, unemployment high as hell and hardly any gasoline. They were giving messages to us about being self sufficient people. I dug it then as I do now. With all the shit going on now. You would see this applies to todays events as they did in 1974 when this was new.
Word ! I was a kid in school when this was released and couldn't truly relate because I didn't have to be out working and trying to make a living. Now I feel the truth of these words personally.
Dag vee-wee, you got me so nostalgic it ain't even funny!!! I wore this album OUT, I mean til the cover was coming apart! Thanks, I definitely needed the way back machine today.
Also sampled by DJ Premier in "Red Alert Chant". One of my fav displays of Premo's skills.

Bob Clearmountain did engineer this album along with Harvey Goldberg and Jeff Lesser. Bob is lengendary. This album is a little known classic.
StevieDebe 2 years ago
Thanks for the clarification- Clearmountain engineered many of Kool and the Gangs LPs. That's why I mentioned it.

Good post. Too much like K&TGs "Jungle Boogie". Did't they do a cut in the '60 called "the horse"?
philburrell 3 years ago
"The Horse" was by a group called
Cliff & Noble in 1968.
MUZIKNFILMZ 3 years ago
Cliff & Noble was from what city? Is the cut you're speaking of all instrumental?
philburrell 3 years ago
I don't know what city he's from, but yes, the song was an instrumental.
MUZIKNFILMZ 3 years ago
Cliff Noble was from Philadelphia. He basically did his thing right before Gamble and Huff and Thom Bell took the Philly sound to another level.
