The term "exhibition football" just doesn't do this goal justice. It's like time just stops for Liverpool from the moment Southampton pick up the ball deep in their own half - as if the whole move was pre-ordained and the Liverpool players were told resistance is folly so just stand back and admire.
Lovely goal, Im a Arsenal supporter and love these team goals, ArchersRoad is right if this goal was scored by us or a selection of other teams it would be showen all the time. like Rooneys overhead kick the over season it was good but within a week i saw a better overhead kick in a French league game and in our lower divisions but they went un noticed. Good luck for the rest of this season .
"You won't see a better goal than that this season!.... and you won't see England (or Liverpool, for that matter) stringing passes together like that for at least another 30 years!"
@mattol58 Barcelona score goals with 20-30 consecutive almost every weekend. Maybe not always that spectacular becouse that one was a master class but they have atleast something. The thing is that they do it so simple it seem easy when it is really not. watch?v=XuGk_X85WcI - simple example, and the current team is a lot better.
@zurijohn - "I love that not one of those possessions were easy. Tight spaces and great quick improvised passing." -
- It had to be . Don't forget it was against the reigning European champions, and the team that won the League title in the season shown. Wonder what Alan Hanson thought of it?
Classic!!!!....and we came so close to winning the old 1st division. The early 80's saw players like keegan, ball, channon, shilton, wallace, worthington all play for the saints. Great times....and probably one of the best team goals you'll ever see. If brazil or barcelona had scored a goal like that, it would be repeated thousands of times!!!!!
I'm a LFC supporter and indeed this is the best goal ever scored against us. Fortunately, we won this one 3-2 (a last minute goal from Ronnie Whelan) and went on to win the league with 13 wins in the last 16 games.
I miss the saints, they should be back in top flight soon.
@skinnyb999 Probably because it was scored by Saints. If it had been scored by Liverpool, Man Utd or Arsenal, the media would never stop showing it. Part of the reason why I put it on youtube in the first place, to give it a deserved new audience.

That was the key day in te title race - it all happened at about 4.40 - Ipswich were awarded a penalty at maine road - if they score they move clear at the top coz its 2-2 at the dell - but john wark misses it - then whelan scores at the dell. Great days.
A great Mick Channon goal indeed, in one of the greatest matches in history. The match involved veteran Alan Ball (England 1966) and youngster Mark Wright (England 1990). There was also a late winner by Ronnie Whelan.

Baker, Ball, Armstrong, Channon
Keegan, Cassells
