  • Great goal, there are people all over the country that still follow Saints because they grew up watching that team on TV.

  • Liverpool fan here but that goal is sensational.

  • The term "exhibition football" just doesn't do this goal justice. It's like time just stops for Liverpool from the moment Southampton pick up the ball deep in their own half - as if the whole move was pre-ordained and the Liverpool players were told resistance is folly so just stand back and admire.

Piano and shoeshine football at its finest.

  • What a goal man! I'm so glad i watch football. :)

  • What did you use to record this? a hamburger?

  • Liverpool fan here, great goal. hope you get promoted, top flight misses the Saints

  • FTR: Liverpool won this game 3-2 with an 88 minute winner from Ronnie Whelan and then went on to win the league by 4 points from Ipswich town

  • Fair play, that's a cracker!

  • Lovely goal, Im a Arsenal supporter and love these team goals, ArchersRoad is right if this goal was scored by us or a selection of other teams it would be showen all the time. like Rooneys overhead kick the over season it was good but within a week i saw a better overhead kick in a French league game and in our lower divisions but they went un noticed. Good luck for the rest of this season .

  • good team goal yes, greatest no as a leeds fan in soiuthampton even i`ll say i saw matt le tissier score better goals

  • "You won't see a better goal than that this season!.... and you won't see England (or Liverpool, for that matter) stringing passes together like that for at least another 30 years!"

  • Ever ? I don't think, but a great goal certainly. Pleasant to watch again.

  • easy best team goal ever

  • what a goal. i'd like to score a this goal.

  • Words don't describe how good that was.

  • Fantastic goal barcelona haven't got anything on this

  • @mattol58 Barcelona score goals with 20-30 consecutive almost every weekend. Maybe not always that spectacular becouse that one was a master class but they have atleast something. The thing is that they do it so simple it seem easy when it is really not. watch?v=XuGk_X85WcI - simple example, and the current team is a lot better.

  • what a goal against my favourite team. Hats off Saints.

  • sublime

  • nice

  • Who the fuck are Barcelona ?

  • wow fantastic action!

  • Simply sensational.

  • I LOVE MYSELF

  • WHAT A FUCKING GOAL!!! HAHAAA!!

I'M A SAINTS FAN OF 27 YEARS AND I'VE NEVER SEEN THAT GOAL, EVER!!

    THANX!!!

  • Brilliant goal. Love Southampton. Always a Channon fan. LFC supporter.

  • That was amazing

  • Top knotch stuff. I love that not one of those possessions were easy. Tight spaces and great quick improvised passing.

  • @zurijohn - "I love that not one of those possessions were easy. Tight spaces and great quick improvised passing." -

    - It had to be . Don't forget it was against the reigning European champions, and the team that won the League title in the season shown. Wonder what Alan Hanson thought of it?

  • great team work

  • a remember this , great build up an great finish, great players

  • As a Portsmouth Supporter YES!!! That is a cracker of a goal.

  • @biagini41 WE'RE COMING FOR YOUUUU, WE'RE COMING FOR YOUUU

YOU DIRTY SKATE BASTARDS, WE'RE COMING FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow what a goal. The fact is it was against the dominant team of the 80's must have made it even better

  • If Barcelona scored this now-a-days, everyone would be wanking over it's brilliance

  • pretty pointless calling it best goal ever but that is an outstanding goal. reminds me of the pele goal for marseille (no, not the brazillian pele!)

  • Oh my god

  • Amazing goal. One of the best team goals I have ever seen. And Im a Liverpool fan.

  • I wish Saints would play like this now

  • Keegan, Ball, Baker, Keegan, Armstrong, KEEGAN, ARMSTRONG! KEEGAN! CHANNON!!

  • My favourite has to be here at watch?v=StzwDa6_oCY

  • Can you imagine if that guy had blazed it over?

  • Fantastic teamwork.

  • what a goal, thx for putting it up for us to see

  • I can not believe I have never seen that goal ever before!...Top class!

  • best team goal ever

  • What a beauty !!!

  • great team play and great goal (i am a liverpool fan). and they say the english don't play attractive football.... this is a beauty.

  • amazing

  • fair enough. great goal.

  • Amazing play amazing goal

  • that is what we call as beatiful footbal

  • What a goal! Even the camera man could barely keep up.

  • wow that goal is beautiful! the other team never came close to getting the ball

  • A great goal indeed (and I'm a Scouser). Great to see Alan Ball (RIP) there too.

  • great goal. get in there u beauty!

  • this goal is so sexy

  • Classic!!!!....and we came so close to winning the old 1st division. The early 80's saw players like keegan, ball, channon, shilton, wallace, worthington all play for the saints. Great times....and probably one of the best team goals you'll ever see. If brazil or barcelona had scored a goal like that, it would be repeated thousands of times!!!!!

  • I'm a LFC supporter and indeed this is the best goal ever scored against us. Fortunately, we won this one 3-2 (a last minute goal from Ronnie Whelan) and went on to win the league with 13 wins in the last 16 games.

I miss the saints, they should be back in top flight soon.

  • great goal,flash from past

  • that was amazing

  • Bonito gol!!

    Abraços do Brasil!

  • wow! amazing goal!

  • Awesome goal. Just listening to the names of the players is amazing enough Ball...Keegan...Channon... They'd grace any team around today imo.

  • im 21 years old, saints supporter my whole life and cannot belive ive never seen this goal before, wat a cracker

  • @skinnyb999 Probably because it was scored by Saints. If it had been scored by Liverpool, Man Utd or Arsenal, the media would never stop showing it. Part of the reason why I put it on youtube in the first place, to give it a deserved new audience.

  • @ArchersRoad Beautiful! Thx for posting that

  • true

  • Unbelievable goal, against a brilliant defence as well. If Brazil or Barca had scored that, people would never shut up about it.

  • all legends though

  • thats definitely one of the best goals of all time

  • jajaja. se parece a uno que le metió el Toluca a las wilas en aquella goleada 6 - 0

  • is the number 7 kevin keegan?

  • yes of course!! the greatest saints team ever!

  • oh my fucking dog!

  • OWNED!

  • It's an incredible goal because Liverpool's defense did nothing wrong.

  • jesus christ, the more you watch that, the better it get's..... the closing down for liverpool was immense, and the touches had to be spot on! incredible goal.

  • great goal but i think goals come in different catagories team, individual, volleys, importance etc hard to pick the best.

  • sorry it can only be the greatest goal ever if you play for madrid or barca or were born in brazil.

  • Wonderful goal. As a Villa fan I always found the Dell to be a tremendous ground to visit. Such a tight little place.

  • Mick's last ever goal for saints, god bless him.

  • class build up play it was flowing

  • Pitty Southampton are having so many problems these days :(

  • We will be back, and stronger than ever! but this video makes me want to cry :( we have lost so much :(

  • Have 2 say that was fuckin class stuff!!

  • we got rickie lambert!!!!!!!!!!

  • channon was our greatest goal scorer, those were the good old days.

  • Bloody hell that was good

  • wonderful

  • As a Liverpool supporter I have to say that was an absolute belter of a goal.

  • great goal.

  • Whoa....that's how to destroy the opponent's defensive. Amazing goal.

  • superb goal

  • great goal great team liverpool xxx from breda NAC

  • Southampton scored it

  • you idiot southampton scored the goal!

  • unreal goal it probably waz 1 of da gr8est goals

  • Truely astonishing. Do could be the greatest goal ever.

  • fantastic

  • A very good goal....There was also a belting Ian Rush goal in this game too

  • What. A. Goal.

  • oooo arrr

  • amazing. Better team goal than that one from Brazil 1970 that everyone agrees was the best ever.

  • Ball, Channon, Keegan, Mills, Watson, Shilton & Mark Wright, if you'e interested

  • Sadly, that's an urban myth. They did all play for Saints, but never in the same side.

Shilton & Mills joined the season after Keegan left.

Saints team that day against Liverpool was:

    Katalanic,

    Golac, Nicholl, Wright, Holmes

    Baker, Ball, Armstrong, Channon

    Keegan, Cassells

    Sub. Puckett

  • @ArchersRoad 1 sub??

  • That Southampton team is the only side in history to have SEVEN England captains playing in the same side. And now we're billionaires, we're on our way back! COYR

  • being a football fan..it is a privilege to see this..

  • you won't see a better goal than that this season

  • Best goal that was ever not scored by Matt Le Tissier!

  • That was the key day in te title race - it all happened at about 4.40 - Ipswich were awarded a penalty at maine road - if they score they move clear at the top coz its 2-2 at the dell - but john wark misses it - then whelan scores at the dell. Great days.

  • fantastic goal!!

  • A great Mick Channon goal indeed, in one of the greatest matches in history. The match involved veteran Alan Ball (England 1966) and youngster Mark Wright (England 1990). There was also a late winner by Ronnie Whelan.

As someone already mentioned, it was April 1982 (Before Kevin Keegan's injury that ruled him out for most of the 1982 World Cup matches.

  • I wonder if League One will see a goal like that from them this season? :-)

  • Fine, fine goal. See, Arsenal fans? It is possible to fanny around in the final third and still score.

  • @guernican Dude, you've just made my day.

  • This was actually 24th April 1982.

  • 5 stars. Great goal.

  • guess who scored that goal my uncle:)

  • A little bit of punctuation would have added the desired anticipation there.

  • PUKKA!!!!!!!

  • they quite gud at passin

  • hehe yeah ive seen this goal before but i totally forgot about it, how could i do that?!?!?

  • Damn, now that's great team football being displayed! Great goal!

  • Certainly not the worst goal I've ever seen! ;-)

  • goals like this are a helluva lot more impressing than some 40 yard lucky punch from some defender who has never juggled the ball more than 10 times. This is pure class and tecnique. Unfortunately the 40 yard lucky punches often get more attention than goals like this one.

  • suberb goal.

  • 16 passes :D and what a speed ;)

  • they Liverpooled Liverpool

  • brilliant

  • That's a cracking goal AND it's against a Liverpool that were none too shabby back then!

  • southampton la la la!!!!!

  • Wow!!! What's Amazing Teamwork.. That's Called Football..

  • 15 touches of utter brilliance against the best team in the world at the time.

  • Actually, 15 passes.. Not 15 touches..

  • I was behind that goal standing in the archers, mick's last ever goal for saints.

    LOWE OUT

  • Wow!

  • that was great, it's really hard being a saints fan when you're an american. The internet is the only way to stay up to date on things, and no one I know has ever even heard of south hampton, anyway.....GO SAINTS

  • lol i admire your support for them but...why Southampton?

  • a friend of mine from there was studying abroad for a year here in san diego california, we watched a lot of football together, i became a saints supporter and he became an Oakland Raiders supporter, that's my American Football team, good times

  • thats good saints are a big team but they are in so much trouble at the moment its a real shame.

do you ever get the chance to come over and watch a game at st. marys?

  • No. I was supposed to be there in november for a cousin's wedding but it didn't work out. But at some point i'd definitely want to come and check out a game. I also want to get one of those vintage Le Tissier Jerseys. What a phenomenal player he was!!

  • why not

  • no offence meant by it...just wondering like.

  • Just to clear it up, this was the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on 24/04/1982.

Keegans 2nd (and final) season with the Saints.

Thanks for the video, that was one great team.

  • :O

    What a goallll, criminally under-rated.

  • bloody hell!!!!

  • awesome goal. good on the Saints, the Premiership is not the same without them. It all went tits up when you left the Dell

  • Total football at its best!

  • New to me, thanks for the video. Great, great team goal.

  • just look at how many caps Heskey as got to matt.

its just wrong, terry v and glen h should hang there heads in shame.

  • never seen dat goal b4!!! fuckin intense

    sfc 4 life

  • WOW what a goal!!

    "COME ON YOU SAINTS"

  • Probably the best team goal ever. Argentina's at the 2006 world cup that had 20 something passes in the build up was pretty good too but a lot of those passes were short easy passes until the last 4 or 5. This one had so many great passes and the other team just didn't get a look in.

    Beautiful!

  • If you havn't seen it type in 1970 world cup final. Brazil's last goal is one of the best ever in my opinion.

  • good call brother. I'd say they're on a par except for the fact that that was the best Brazil team ever to live and was scored in a world cup against Italy so I'd have to agree with you.

  • get in!!

  • very nice

  • Class! What a footballer! And that was football!

  • The goal was scored against Liverpool, not Nowrich City.

    Happy to help!

    xx

  • the team which scored that great goal was Southampton FC, "the saints"....if you pay attention, one of the players who passed the ball once is Kevin Keegan...he plays for "Saints" only one season, after playing for Hamburg SV. The team which suffered the goal is Norwich City...Greetings from Malaga

  • What a team goal that was. So much one touch passing and moving. If only the players could do that at Southampton these days =[

  • Wow, never even seen this goal before and I'm a 25 year old life long fan.

Jan Portveleit should show this to the young'uns to show what total footbll should look like!

  • What a team goal that was. So much one touch passing and moving. If only the players could do that at Southampton these days =[
