Seriously, though, I agree castration would be a perfect punishment for serious sexual assault (as in, violent rape would qualify; but date rape without injury, or molestation committed at a young age, wouldn't count here) ... it would keep them from reproducing, plus get rid of the testosterone that causes aggression

Someone was stating that we should only expend "$.50" for the bullet to kill someone accused of a crime that could result in a sentence of life in prison. $.50 is not going to buy a trial. Therefore, you'd just be killing people accused of crimes without a trial.
Hence my comment - "I just hope we don't mess up." Was referring to the possibility that we'd kill the wrongly accused.

@HoboSammiches in germany its really bad... you can get away with probation (NO prison OR jail) after you got caught the SECOND time for rape.... that crime takes part very often , even in smaller towns. theft often is "worse" than rape, and "prevention" is a unknown word than it comes to really bad crimes (in germany)

Rehab DOES NOT work, how many group therapy sessions would it take to change your sexual preference? Doesn't work, they ALWAYS re-offend, whether you catch them for it or not. If you can prevent repeat offenses and minimize the waste tax payers money, that is utilitarian. Take Singapore for example, their crime rate is incredibly low because they deal with criminals in a very strict way. The USA should not adopt the same system, but we are not harsh enough with our criminals.

We can invest the money in education instead of the prison industrial complex. People like you are the number one way the prison industrial complex is able to sap societies money.
