@Hats1976 I also live in IL if you are around central then go to evergreen lake or banner marsh. Caught a twenty two musk through ice over winter on wax worm. For evergreen use a six to seven inch spoon. I have also caught them on bucktail and large crappie swimbaits. Maybe even a large crankbait. Perch colored is best imo
You idiots who say that guy was dumb not to net the musky, grow up and learn some respect for nature. That guy exercised great judgement by not netting that musky, because it wouldn't have been a fair catch. Whether it was in season or not, that would be really poor etiquette.
@darkwupps All my years that I have spent fishing I have only caught 1 northern and zero muskie,My northern was only 8 inches long. Anytips for a first timer wanting to catch northern or muskie. I'm trying spinners,top water and xraps right now and know luck. I'm in IL and so far the summer here has been warm,I'm kind of guessing that the heat has slowed them down?
@Hats1976 If you want to get a pike, live minnows are the best, i catch 10-20 a day up here in northern canada, Shinner minnows work best, in the summer i always get them by fallen trees and other structure, and the monsters are sometimes in deep water. For muskie work the edge of weed beds.

@Parabellum223 Thanks for the advice,I will try that. I doubt I will have your kind of luck. I have always heard that the best muskie fishing is in Canada. People here are careless about the water,if ya know what I mean.

The muskie fishing is amazing here but more down south. not many where i live. just pike and sturgeon and walleye. Another tip is the small-meduim pike sit at the back of bay in weeds, or on the edge, the monsters tend to sit on the points leading in to the bays, cheers
