Hi Ralfy, my first comment here. I'm been following your vlog for a while, and as an aspiring malt-enthusiast, I've found it to be quite the indispensable resource! So thank you!
Also, I just got a bottle of Laphroaig 18yo for my birthday, and it really is quite the different whisky compared to the 10 (I didn't get to taste the 15). Much mellower and sweeter, and maybe more balanced? Anyway, I hope you get around acquiring a bottle for yourself, because I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
Great but surprisingly brief review. It is very smoky drink that carries a lot of wooden notes indeed. Funny that you were mentioning the blending of two different whiskys as I just started doing that very recently...
Ralfy, I love your whisky reviews. I find Laphroaig 15 year very tasty - you didn't seem impressed but I wonder if some of the fragrance wasn't whisked away by the stiff wind you encountered on top of Mount Merrick? Also I am looking forward to your review of other Laphroaigs such as the 18 year!
i think its kind of funny how the highest summit of in the borders of scotland is actually below my house. air's probably cleaner though. if i ever get the chance, i'll have to check it out. also, what laphroaig would you recommend? 10,15 or quarter cask?
Ralfy - how does the 18 rate in comparison? Also wanted to ask whether you include cost and value when rating the whiskeys or whether it is purely on the whiskey experience alone. Keep up the good work - the best whiskey reviews on the net! very entertaining :-)
@ralfystuff: Haven't tasted the 18 yet but going to sometime soon. Asked some people who already tasted the 18 and they told me it's a bit smoother than the 15, more complex in nose and taste, but not so peaty.
I'd love to find out how it compares to Lagavulin 16.
A bit tough on the ears. The ten year old is my go to bottle for Laphroaig, but I get the urge for the Q-Cask or something a bit younger. The 15 will be replaced by the 18 yr. old, so you will stop seeing these unicorns, soon. At that point, you may begin to like it a bit better.
with very ripe banana (same in the palate). Surprised that you rated Talisker 10 (another whiskey I often enjoy) higher. Love your reviews...keep up the good work.
I'm so surprised by your review of the Laphroaig 15 (a whiskey that I adore...in fact I'm enjoying the Laphroaig as I type). I agree with you that it is very smokey and very peaty but less so than the 10 year. Where I disagree with you is on the finish...I wouldn't say that it is weak, but it certainly has more "grace" or "finesse" than the 10 year's finish. It lingers and if you allow yourself to go with it the finish actually continues to evolve. In the nose I get a heavy dose of banana bread
Wow that is trippy. Those cant be little hills. This flight was not from ordinary whisky review :D. And an elf finally to make some sense. Something special. Really good video.
