I have watched a number of Nightwish pre and post show clips. As for Tarja, I do not know how she tolerated those guys. They were shitty to her in almost all of the footage. Enjoy the good life Tarja!!

I can't believe this debate about Tarja and Anette is still going on tbh..... I have now just accepted the fact that Anette has made me stop listening to Nightwish as she is a poxy little pop singer. Tarja's solo career is amazing and i still listen to the 'old' nightwish..I aint moaning about it.. just get on with it.

Imaginaerum was a continued process, recording, that took place in a year or two. That alone makes End of an Era a lot bigger than Imaginaerum. It was a nearly perfect show from top to bottom. And all live.
True that. Everyone can sing in studio with AutoTune, but only few can perform so amazing live as Tarja. It is enough to listen to Anette's live to erase single doubt about which one is better.
@andreez1 Well couldn't be bigger than the gibson ampitheatre gig they did last night! There was alot of amazing songs they did, they even did bits of parts of Gethsemane and angels fall first. They did Nemo the acoustic version with troy and Marco singing
together in the background music. Anette's slow love slow performance is identical to the studio. Over the hills and far away was played as well, they added more bits of music in every song they did, even from the first two abums.

Tarja didn't have extraordinary vocals at all in her 9 years? Wow. Then, what is Passion and The Opera? A song everyone sings in simple karaokes shows? Or Sleeping Sun, that requires a developed breath control? Or Wishmaster? The run at Slaying the dreamer? A song doesn't need to be filled with belts, high notes to be hard to sing.
@andreez1 Slow Love Slow is sexy and very atmospheric. When you listen to it, you can imagine being in a bar back in the 30's, with smoke in the air and the band chilling out. Anette managed to make Nightwish do a jazzy song and make it sound good. Tarja could never sing jazz, let me tell you that. You never heard Anette sing like this is DPP, or any concerts.

@TheGruzas Anette is nothing without Nightwish. Nobody talked about her band (or her, for that matter) before she signed with Nightwish. And I so SERIOUSLY laugh when people say that Nightwish made Tarja when actually she, and her distinctive sound, coupled with Toumas amazing songwriting, was the reason Nightwish got huge in the first place. So, if anything, Tarja is part of the reason why Nightwish was the best metal band in the scene.

@TheGruzas Well, saying that Tarja was the only engine is going a bit too far. Toumas's writes everything so he's an engine of the band all in his own. But I think Toumas's songs were at his best when he had Tarja as his muse and as the "siren" that carried the songs. So, together, they were, without a doubt, the engine behind Nightwish. That's why the band just feels incomplete without Tarja because there's only half of the engine.
Well my English isint best so i was misunderstood likely. I must agree on what you say. Im not saying that Tarja alone was NW, she needed Tuomas but together they were what made NW P.E.R.F.E.C.T. And any Anette or Muomas cant change that.

Many people do not like Anette. It's the syndrome of substituting a great person. You know, when a fucking great musician leaves a band and the band find a new one to put in it's place, people tend to hate the new one just because the last one is better (and it's not always true). I know, Anette is not a goddess like Tarja, but it doesn't mean she sucks.
About the style, you all must admit that the poems still the same. The shock is the change from lyrical to non-lyrical vocals.
People do not hate Anette personally. It is a preference in musical style and delivery. The way Tarja was dismissed creates the discourse among the fans. As for me personally, Anette's style does not suit the Nightwish sound.
Agreed. And I will probably never understand why did they put a non-lyrical singer in her place. But still, Nightwish has not changed that much, I mean, Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum are really great albums with sons so great and full of feeling as the other albums. They're just adapted to Anette's non-lyrical singing, wich really makes them sound different, but their style and soul is still the same. I mean, you listen to them and you know that it is the same Nightwish as before.
@asmodarith I loved Dark Passion Play but in all honesty, when it comes to Imaginaerum (the single at least), it seems to me the new 'style' they chose, doesnt fit them. Its nice, as a music style but, its not nightwish.
An honest question: How can it be, that if Tarja sings, for example at 8:00 there are two female voices singing, but there's only one Tarja? A little bit of extra Playback ?
@JanxW3 I think they just did that as back up for the effect, in the chorus you also hear the choir sing all the time ofcourse. You can really hear tarja's voice sing the whole time, she sounds live much stronger than on CD so you can tell she did not playback.

So the focus is on a voice that does not suit the Nightwish style? The metal reviews that I read about Imaginerium states that Annete's vocals are weak. I guess that substantiates your crazy theory.
People keep fighting about Tarja versus Annette. Tuomas is apparently writing music to match the singer (which is I'd say unfortunate). He should write the best music he could come up with, irrespective of who's going to sing it. Tarja is better than Annette as a vocalist. Also the music Tuomas wrote for Tarja is special. They got pretty commercial lately just because of Annette. She will never be able to sing songs like this or Kuolema. Sorry, but Tarja is just the best!

Bravo! It doesn't get better than this. Please bring back Tarja. She may not always hit the right note, but she gives Nightwish the edge that is so sorely lacking from their new album. Without Tarja's voice Imaginaerum is just nice and harmless.
C'mon give Anette a chance. Listen to the new album and then say what you wish. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm starting to like Anette more than Tarja now.

@andreez1 Well couldn't be bigger than the gibson ampitheatre gig they did last night! There was alot of amazing songs they did, they even did bits of parts of Gethsemane and angels fall first. They did Nemo the acoustic version with troy and Marco singing
together in the background music. Anette's slow love slow performance is identical to the studio. Over the hills and far away was played as well, they added more bits of music in every song they did, even from the first two abums.

Again, I haven't watched the Gibson gig but sure as hell it wasn't perfect. There's no such thing as perfect in human's working. End of an Era was a NEARLY perfect gig in which the band was at their absolute best.

@andreez1 Slow Love Slow is sexy and very atmospheric. When you listen to it, you can imagine being in a bar back in the 30's, with smoke in the air and the band chilling out. Anette managed to make Nightwish do a jazzy song and make it sound good. Tarja could never sing jazz, let me tell you that. You never heard Anette sing like this is DPP, or any concerts.

And I so SERIOUSLY laugh when people say that Nightwish made Tarja when actually she, and her distinctive sound, coupled with Toumas amazing songwriting, was the reason Nightwish got huge in the first place. So, if anything, Tarja is part of the reason why Nightwish was the best metal band in the scene.

So, when she had her time in NW, she recorded her vocals with a girlie high pitched voice, but when it came to live, she had her deep tessitura voice. Explain this? oh, another thing here, she was getting less operatic vocals within each album. Compare the original sleeping sun to wish I had an angel

@TheGruzas Well, saying that Tarja was the only engine is going a bit too far. Toumas's writes everything so he's an engine of the band all in his own. But I think Toumas's songs were at his best when he had Tarja as his muse and as the "siren" that carried the songs. So, together, they were, without a doubt, the engine behind Nightwish. That's why the band just feels incomplete without Tarja because there's only half of the engine.

Many people do not like Anette. It's the syndrome of substituting a great person. You know, when a fucking great musician leaves a band and the band find a new one to put in it's place, people tend to hate the new one just because the last one is better (and it's not always true). I know, Anette is not a goddess like Tarja, but it doesn't mean she sucks.
About the style, you all must admit that the poems still the same. The shock is the change from lyrical to non-lyrical vocals.

Agreed. And I will probably never understand why did they put a non-lyrical singer in her place. But still, Nightwish has not changed that much, I mean, Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum are really great albums with sons so great and full of feeling as the other albums. They're just adapted to Anette's non-lyrical singing, wich really makes them sound different, but their style and soul is still the same. People keep fighting about Tarja versus Annette. Tuomas is apparently writing music to match the singer (which is I'd say unfortunate). He should write the best music he could come up with, irrespective of who's going to sing it. Tarja is better than Annette as a vocalist. Also the music Tuomas wrote for Tarja is special.
