"nothing to suggest Dr Kohona was directly responsible for committing these alleged war crimes, though international law does recognise principles of what's called command responsibility..."
- Don Rothwell, professor of international law at the Australian National University
The Prevention of Terrorism Act / media black out is used to shield international criminals in the military/police/govt of Sri Lanka.
I'm Sri Lankan/Sinhala/Buddhist & I like MIAs music too.
But if you watch the whole of this interview you will see how she FALSELY accuses Sri Lanka & its people of v.bad things. Then neatly distances her self from LTTE Terrorists (Which is Banned almost all over the world & of which her Dad just happened to be a Leader (Now Killed.) I Guess she cannot help but speak for a Terror Org, Its in her blood..!
But I love some of her songs & wish her, baby & her singing carrier all the best.
Im Sinhala and I love MIA's music, as Dr.Kohona said we all wish all the best to you. But, living outside Sri Lanka from where you can see only one side of the situation in SL she can not comment on the conflict in SL at all. If she thinks she is the only voice for Tamils, she is more than welcome to come to SL herself to talk and listen to the tearful stories of innocent Tamil civilians and ex LTTE soldiers who escaped from LTTE and what they went through because of ruthless LTTE leaders....
the reporters are not welcome in sri lanka to report news and it is only governed by what the government sends out. how do we know if everything that is being said is true?
1st of all, she says "the point of M.I.A. is to be loved or hated" but she doesn't say why. Then gives 2 polar opposite examples of what the song could mean. What? She's dodging question like Cheney after 911. And I have no clue why, this is her chance to shine. Basically my point is, she talks about evoking strong opinions, but she doesn't seem to have even one of her own.
mia is always so laid back doesn't give a shit

What happened to federalism in Sri Lanka as soon as the LTTE was defeated?
Nothing similar to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of South Africa was put forward by the sinhalese dominated govt...
Repeal your draconian Prevention of Terrorism Act.
End the media black outs used to shield international criminals in the military/police/govt of Sri Lanka.
Free Journalist Tissainayagam.
Of these requests, I only expect the last to be granted based on GOSL dealings with Tamil minority

Saw her performing in NYC 4 years ago when hardly anyone knew who she was. As we used to say back in the day, she was 'dope'.
