  • Their music is so incredibly deep. Hard to believe they were only a rock group. Wish there were more bands like the Moodys. This is one of my favorites.

  • The Moody's were the first band that my parents let me listen to that wasn't their genre. I am still waiting to see them live, but, listen to them all the time. The music is relaxing and words are indellable.

  • ~ Put your problems out with the cat ~ luv.

    BEST BAND EVER

who could not luv the beauty & the sureal music

  • Ethereal, surreal, brilliant. No band has ever...no band will ever...touch this kind of genius in melody, in harmony, in lyric, in concept, and in execution. This is eternal music for the mind, spirit and soul.

  • @redheadhikerbabe That's a perfect description. I'm glad MB has been snubbed by the RR Hall of Fame. They're so far above it.

  • GReat Stuff...WHAT A VOICE AND INSANE HARMONIES

  • sounds like spinal tap.

  • one of my delightful , dusty , old vinyls ~ this is a delight :o)

  • i cant take it anymore our children are being murdered please lets slow it down i think ill be ok bring the madness down bring the love up thanks

  • For some strange reason, I sometimes think my mind becomes sharper and more in tune, to the point that my I.Q. jumps up a few points, whenever I listen the these Moody Blues songs.

  • I remember being out at sea on a diesel submarine in 1971 listening to this song with headphones, we all loved the moodies

  • The most underrated Moodies song?

  • @hooeybrown

Interesting about the sudden changes comment. These changes/transitions are masterfully done in this song IMO. The long pause before the song resumes with the words "The sound, I have heard in your hello..." is as well placed as any in popular music and makes this one of the most romantic lines in music. One that comes close is the long pause in Stevie Wonder's song Innervision. You Tubers out there: any other pauses/transitions worthy of the title "the greatest pauses in music?

  • @karlwhubbard You are so right. The pause always catches me out when I sing along to this. It's a beat longer than it feels it should be. But then that's the genius of Justin.

  • @karlwhubbard

I agree that the extended pauses work wonderfully in this song. They seem to really emphasize the next lyrics. Good call.

  • Never liked this song much. I guess the sudden changes seemed to jarring to me. But... better this than most of the junk that passes for music these days. LOL.

  • One of my all time favorites. Listened to this song and entire album over and over again while living in a small apartment with my bride right after I got out of the USAF in 1969. No TV. Only record albums. A nice memory. My wife & I saw the Moody Blues perform The Actor several years ago in Northern California. They were great!

  • De muziek van de Moody Blues is tijdloos! Ik was 18 toen ik The Actor voor de eerste keer hoorde. We zijn nu 44 jaar verder en ik word nog steeds ontroerd door deze muziek. The Actor is zo schitterend, de harmonieen zo ontroerend.

  • The most under rated rock & roll group of the British Invasion. They're totally awesome!!!

  • that chorus is the most beautiful, romantic thing I've heard. It just wraps me up.

  • @sunonthewindow And the only truth we know comes so easy!

  • still sends shivers after all these years music with atmosphere

  • For many years I have been listening to the blues. They give me Hope ,love and understanding. This is one of my favorites. IMy wife and I will stay up all night and feal the love that inspires us to go on.

  • I just heard this band for the first time yesterday with this album. I wish I would have been alive when this came out! Such beautiful music.

  • @PtahKhnemuV You are alive now, and, with the internet, you have this music at your fingertips. I hope you explore the music of this period. There were many, many gems like this song.

  • NHfiddle who can say they would have produced anything better if Mike Pinder had stayed on. What these guy's have done over the years is beyond anything any other band has done be it the Beattles, Rolling Stones, even Zeppelin. May their music live on for generations to come so your granchildren's children can hear what great is

  • I've been listening to "The Actor" for Many decades now. Each tine I hear it , it is like the first time ! Not many songs do that ! Great arrangement ! Plus Justin's angelic voice. No other band has ever been able to duplicate their sound.

  • This has always been one of my favorite songs. Justin Hayward has a way of capturing emotion and turning it into something wonderful.

  • Justin had and still does have the voice of an angel

  • My first husband introduced me to The Moodies when I was about 16/17 and we were "courting". For this, if for nothing else, I owe him SO much!

  • An absolute gem that enters through the ears & resides in hearts eternally.

Timeless music i find my self returning to often.

  • I've always loved these guys since the beginning. Can you imagine what kind of music and material they would have produced if Mike Pinder stayed on for all those years until now?

  • You listen to this and then you listen to the garbage they play now and it really makes you wonder...."What Is This Society Coming To?"

  • @rijadolela Don't worry, I'm 16 and this is the kind of music I love. I also have friends who listen to this stuff. There will always be at least a small number of people who want to find the truly good and beautiful music. I'd be surprised if this kind of music died.

  • Ours reasons are the same but thier's s is no one else to blame for there's no where we need go and the only trurth we know comes so easily

  • Mysterious and tells of life this music does.

  • its like an adult lullaby...justin is one of the best songwriters of his generation...since i was the age of 12 he has been my favorite musician...I hope to finally see one of their concerts this year...

  • This is music from heaven...,no doubt about it!!

  • its one of the most beautiful songs i ever heard,i listen to jusin sing every night before I fall asleep...

  • And these guys aren't in the R&R hall of fame?

  • @1asimplemind I was listening to a radio show with two music 'critics' who vote for R&R HOF. Somebody called and asked why MB weren't there. The critic said he couldn't really see it. But he was saying maybe the Velvet Underground should. The other moron critic said she hated disco back in the day but would consider Donna Summer! But just look at the crap they have in there now- Madonna and Billy Joel. It's really a sham. Even in this genre rock, MB should be there ahead of Yes, Genesis, EL&P..

  • There's something so beautifully romantic about this song. I don't mean romantic in the typical sense. It's more in the sound than the lyrics. If there is a love of my life to be found, I would sing this to her late at night :)

(this coming from a 20 year old)

  • Name one Beatles song that's better than this.

  • @IMJUSTS0MEGUY Mother Natures Sun

  • @IMJUSTS0MEGUY I can't, but there were a few that come close, And I Love Her would be in line behind this.

But, I think Justin's voice is better than any of the Beatle's voices, and even Ray Thomas had a better voice than John, Paul, or George.

  • @IMJUSTS0MEGUY in any case, I like them both. Stil, apples and oranges

  • @IMJUSTS0MEGUY Let It Be, A Day in a life, Within You and Without You. That's 3.

  • @IMJUSTS0MEGUY Hey Jude

  • Crapped myself at 1:05

  • How lucky i was i to be around when voices such as these were making this kind of music. It will never be lost in my mind or my heart no matter how old i get

  • Jesus is the one I had to run to, as much as l love you. He loves you more. Ask him to show you truth and come into your heart.

  • @cloudjia they were and are amazing, saw them live in Chicago in 1972 when Seventh Sojourn came out. Justin Hayward i feel has one of the best voices ever, especially for this kind of song. can't picture any one else singing it. God i wish there more singers like him, especially today, when they are needed to bring music out of the horrible rut it's in. most of today's music, for lack of better words, just sucks!

  • great voice quality!

  • Hard to believe this classic gem was left off of 'The Moody Blues Anthology' collection. It has remained one of my favorites since its release back in '68.

  • This song I think almost more than any other Moody Blues song highlights the incredible beauty and depth of Justin Haywards voice. Remember, the human voice is superior to any instrument, and his voice was one of the best ever in the rock/pop world.

  • @michaelgran100 Always been my favourite Moodies album out of all their great ones. I first heard it in 1968 when my older brother borrowed it from a school friend ; I loved every aspect including the sleeve and have owned several copies down the years, on vinyl & c.d. I am proud to have bought a UK first edition where the inner sleeve comes out of the back part of the gatefold when you open it but from the left, and has the mustard colour DSS on the record label to signify that it's a MONO copy

  • Tough to find a song that is more beautiful than this.....

  • @Dhunatmik

that,s for sure, never in this time with the rap and house, but that,s for our kids, for us it was the best time for good music, that,s a fact!

  • I was just 19 and 20 when I lived in Singapore back in '69/'70 and I used to love listening to the moodies earlier albums (like a lot of my friends). Visions of Paradise and The Actor were very special songs. I'm 60 now and live in Thailand; listening to it now brings back such wonderful memories. Timeless, beautiful music. God bless Justin Hayward and John Lodge.

  • @brennan60100 it was Michael Pinder who was the formost "psychedelic connection" of the Moody Blues....

  • @Aldebaron9 Even though Ray wrote 'Legend of a mind' ?

  • @TheKenfig I would have to agree with aldebaron9. After all it was Mike who wrote "The Best Way to Travel." But Ray has a great connection with the wild & the earth ("Nice to Be Here," "Watching & Waiting" co-written with Justin). I miss them both & am glad Mike is still making music. I wish Ray all the best in retirement & hope he is well & happy.

  • @Aldebaron9 There's a video on youtube somewhere with Pinder talking about out of body experiences he had a s a youth. For sure this contributed to his amazing vision, poetic insight, and expanded consciousness so greatly expressed in their music....

  • @brennan60100 exactly my sentiments. I'm 60> Thailand sounds nice.

  • O U T S T A N D I N G ! !

    5X5 Thumb's UP!!

  • O U T S T A N D I N G

  • this is part of my youth and awakening, spiritual, and soul. forever a part of me.

  • I will always love this!

  • Justin - king of melodies !

  • 42BETWO You said it perfectly, thank you. I think this was their finest hour.

  • Wow! It is so nice to read such articulated thoughts about the positive personal effects the Moody Blues have had on us all. I believe if a young rock band were to reintroduce the Moody Blues first seven albums one after the other for the next seven years and toured the world in support of them they would be the greatest rock band in the world today. And that's my Threshold of a Dream. Peace

  • i have this record,

idk where from but i have it!

  • every summer and spring family and friends spend long nights on sand bars on the river drinking beer, a wee bit of weed, and some munchies sitting by the fire listening to Moody Blues, Slade, Simon and Garfunkel, and much more. Good times. more on the way:) Join me on those nights! thumbs up to your buddies, a shout to the sky, for every night on the river you will reflect as one of your greatest times!

  • Magical song

  • This song is for my beautiful wife,Pam love her so

  • Until my first acid trip, in an army barracks on a November weekend in 1969, I never had enough of an appreciation for the Moodies. This album and Jimi, with Country Joe and the Fish - and a trip. What a trip. The places this song took me? Aye, that's fer me to know, sonny boy...hahahahahaha But I saw the other side of Neptune... looking inward.

  • @TravelerDiogenes: With me it was Jimi first. Then the Moody Blues. Went to Germany in 1971-72. Stationed near Stuttgardt, U.S. Army. You know, before I went in, I figured the Army was like in the movies: John Wayne. But NOOOoooo. It was a bunch of freaks getting fucked up. After a while, I never fell out for formation, stayed in the room, got fucked up and the cadre never missed me. I think they were glad I wasn't around. Olive Drab wasn't my color.

  • Keep dreaeming. There is no mre bigger or better music coming.RIP

  • The only things missing on this fine posting are the scratches from my vinyl copy that I still listen to periodically. Great song! Thanks for posting!

  • I lived on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston in 72'.....I bought four tickets to see the Moodies at the Boston Garden. I took the three young ladies that lived in an apartment upstairs with me thinking that I may get lucky. Those three extra tickets were the best investment I ever made!

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written! What a vocal by Justin. Moving song! Gotta love it!

  • I would have never thought that I'd be loving the same music in my late fifties as when I was 19. Only now, I don't smoke pot and feel like I'm floating through this beautiful music. I wish I weren't so dang paranoid of 'breaking the law.' In my state, it's a felony to smoke a joint.

  • For someone to think that this is weird music, obviously never listen to what was being said and how (for me at least) made my soul and spirit feel good..They sang of love and loss, happiness and sadness..of compassion and understanding. Not just of yourself (like this me generation we live in) but of the balance of life itself..I feel pity towards those who won't even try to understand..There's nothing wrong or weird about songs that speak of positive things, like love,& unselfishness

  • Somehow I forgot this beautifully written song. Wow. thanks for posting it. 30+ years later

  • our reasons are the same!

few bands had the same reason!

  • freakin genius...

  • The Search is here and now that is the answer to it all really

  • Oh my f***in' God - I'm roughly the age of you baby boomers, and I'm sick to death of listening to you MAKE YOURSELF old and irrelevant with your nostalgic bullcrap. The reason this music is great is that it's for anyone of any generation, and it doesn't mean a kid also has to hate rap to dig it. Wake up! Or it's time to call Dr. Kevorkian. I'm still trying to live AND YOU'RE USING MY OXYGEN

  • @NoGunnersAllowed Calm down --- there are some of us Boomers who love ALL music of any generation and - you are right - this music is for all, at anytime.

Personally, I am into Trance and House these days .... oh yeah ... I forgot I am 61 ... what a bummer lol!

  • @NoGunnersAllowed - I am 56, and I grew up with this music, and I have NEVER SAID this music wasn't for you too!

Snuff your generalizations, OR, BE SPECIFIC!

  • @NoGunnersAllowed : Here is some oxygen. We are not living in the past Mister, we ARE still yearning for more, bigger, better rock and roll (it is not a closed universe) and RAP ain't cutting it. Honey where did I leave my teeth I want to bite this dude?

  • @NoGunnersAllowed Sorry, buddy, but you're way out of line here. I don't know if you were or are into the Moodies, but if you are, then you're certainly no getting it when it comes to the message, or you wouldn't be making such ludicrous claims and comments such as this. The Moodies (for purposes of clarification) were about a quest for truth, love, meaning, inner peace. Those things are timeless. Nobody suggested anything of the sort you're decrying here. You're reading stuff nobody said.

  • was captured by the moodies sound in '68....the music's beauty only deepens for me as the years go by.......truly a most wonderful presence in my life

  • boojit........ you're almost part of me....

  • In 1969, when I was 12 1/2 and my brother a year younger, our oldest sister came home with this album, saying, "this is what real hippies listen to!" That was good enough for us! Soon enough we were listening with enhanced sensibilities, and it was a magical golden age.

  • Lo-Fi folkadelia.

  • the sound i have heard in your hello

  • Me the wife, some close friends and Mr Tamborine man, at his best I might add, got into the Moody Blues. It is an understatement to say that time is, sacred and holy.

  • i just gave a thumbs up vote for every comment on here. born in '72, i've been a devout moody's fan since the mid '80s. and will be for life. this is one of the best albums ever recorded. period.

  • I love this song... the harmony, the lyrics, all of it.

  • I was born in '66 so I missed it the first time around but great up in the 80's listening to and collecting everything these guys did. To this day, the music is not getting dated. If anything, it just gets better and shows the individualistic tone of their music. There's nothing like it today...When Fall weather hits, I find myself listening to their music, enjoying good coffee, and remembering great memories. Thank you Moody Blues!

  • In late 60's and most of the 70's I went to rock concerts all over the US. The first time I saw the blues, was the first time I could say that the concert sounded almost exactly like the album. Amazing Musicians.

  • Damn, that man can sing. It would appear the other comments indicate many people agree with this. Some of the finest music ever produced...anywhere...anytime. After 40 years I never get tired of them-I just like 'em more and more

  • I was born in '87, I don't really care for any of the new "music" that comes out anymore... Would rather enjoy a nice smoke listening to the Moody dudes :)

  • As a child in the 70s my father was given a Moodies album by a nieghbor and from there he purchased every last one and every one they have come out with since. The Moody Blues are the single greatest act to come out of music...PERIOD.

If you go to concerts today, then you would see that they draw new fans every year and younger too.

  • Hey, dont worry. I was born in 1970 & I love the Moody Blues. I also was rasied on the Moodies, shame my Dad doesnt want to know anymore! I

  • What a gorgeous song indeed!! I was raised on these wonderfully beautiful and so very touching songs from The Moody Blues!! This band is truly a legend of all legends!! Phenomenal in all aspects!! Their music just gets to the heart of you and just touches your soul on every level! I know their music totally shaped my life and gave me a true appreciation for Real, beautiful, mesmerizing , emotionally touching music!! The Moody Blues is truly a band all their own. No one wil ever touch them!! ♥♥

  • Easily their best work ever. This album is as essential as air and water.

  • no music past or present even comes close to this music !

  • People my age these days are really into 80s music because that's what their parents listened to growing up and what they had playing around the house, and it makes me so glad that my dad was born in 1950 because I get to know about the Moody Blues and other bands like it, which I wouldn't have known about if my dad was one of the 'young dads' like all the other parents I know.

  • MERCI BEAUCOUP J AIME TRES JOLI SUBLIME CREATION LOVE MA TRES TENDRE AMI 5***** MERCI BONNIE....

  • love super merci bonnie ...

  • One of the best and most underrated bands of our time. Absolutely fantastic.

  • The Moody Blues healed me with their music back in the 70's and continues to do so today. What a treasure!

  • Awe-some P...s.. Best Album Cover

  • THIS era of the Moody Blues is so horribly underrated and rarely recognised for its unique compositions and sounds , its philosophies .

"In Search of the Lost Chord" is one of 1968's BEST albums ( truly , its impractical to thrust a 'best-of-1968' album to number 1 status ) , along with "White Light / White Heat" ( Velvet Underground ) , "A Saucerful of Secrets"

    ( Pink Floyd ) , and a host of others .

  • reminds me of listening to it when it came out looking at the clouds through the window. if people like the flute and tranquility here I would recommend Jade Warrior for a similar feel.

  • The curtain rises on the scene

With someone shouting to be free

The play unfolds before my eyes

There stands the actor who is me

    Brilliant!

FUCK, DO I LOVE THIS SONG!!! The flute is fucking amazing and soothing.

  • sad yet hopefull song. just amazing.

  • chill bumps every time!

  • This song epitomizes being in love!

  • Was just sent this clip from a good Moody friend today for my birthday. Can't think of a better reminder of why I love this band. Thanks, Brick.

  • Justin has a great voice!

  • They are and always will be special No other music sounds this good!

  • GOD!!!!! I love this band. Ever since I heard them for the first time, their haunting melodic lyrics, send shivers through my whole body. Incredible musicians. All of them. Mike Pinder's mellotron, absolutely amazing. Ray's flute unbelievable and Justin's voice, well what can you say.I'm 54 years old and I can always go back and listen to these fine gentleman. Their music is timeless. Thank-you for posting this video, my friend.

  • the sound of your hello!!!!

  • I love this song and it has a really special meaning for me...When i listen to it i always remember someone who is still important in my life even if i wanna forget him...

  • oooooh the blues! come on this was a fantastic song on the album loved the whole album actually still do.. i sang 2 songs on my profile page.. on the tube

  • I used to think I was a freak in loving the songs and albums of the Moody Blues. Reading the comments here, I now realize I am not alone. The sheer lyrical beauty and meaning of this song remains, and still works, decades after it was released.

  • I just saw them in concert a few weeks ago...they are STILL just absolutely amazing!

Pretty sure I was the youngest person there since I'm only 17. Stupid kids these days don't know what good music is...

  • @moodybluesbaby67 High five man. I started listening to these guys at twelve and at 18 I feel the same exact way.

  • @moodybluesbaby67 you are so totally right about kids these days not knowing what good music is. I'm 18 and I LOVE these guys. Everytime i drive to school I blast them on my stereo in response to all the other people who blast their icky rap music :D So awesome that you got to see them in concert!

  • @DiscoDuckey I do the SAME THING every morning lol

Yeah, you should definitely try to see them in concert! I'm going to see them again as soon as I can. :]

  • @moodybluesbaby67 i would LOVE to see them.....convincing my parents, or a friend to go with me would be a different story, haha. I've only been to one concert really and that was *is rather embarrassed to ACTUALLY admit this* Clay Aiken.......but only becuase my Mom had an unholy obsession with him. Not that Clay isn't a good singer and performer......but the Moody Blues would be SO much more amazing..... XD

  • DiscoDuckey, the Moody Blues tour here in USA usually twice EVERY year. Don't know if you're aware of that or not. They completed their Winter Tour about a month or so ago and will be doing the Summer Tour soon. You can see the tour schedule on moodybluestoday (dot com) if you're interested...and if needs be, go by yourself. You'll make some friends..guaranteed. Best to you, Bev

  • @DiscoDuckey I have seen then more than any other band for a reason 5X. You should make it a priority they will not be around for ever! It can change you life if you like the music you will never forget the emotion that will bring to you when you hear them again.

  • Glad you got to the concert, mbb67, and take it from me, a long time concert going fan, there are many teenagers at every show, every venue...so you don't feel like the only teenager there. And "good music" - my job is at a high school and I hear tons of music from the kids and I totally agree with you. Best to you, Bev

  • @moodybluesbaby67 Give'm some time...my kid was like that. One day she realised all the incredible music the old man really had!

  • @moodybluesbaby67 I saw them last summer, I was the youngest person that I saw and I'm 21, it's a damn shame. Such incredible artists.

  • @moodybluesbaby67,bless you for your obvious attraction for real music,,I have long had my doubts that todays youth had any Idea what real music sounded like

  • @moodybluesbaby67,bless you for your obvious attraction for real music,,I have long had my doubts that todays youth had any Idea what real music sounded like,us old guys still remember when music REALLY meant something,to our ears, to our mind and to our soul

  • @wiggles0213 til the day i day i will always listen to the moodys and the countless other bands from an era that will never be again. thank god i grew up in the4 sixties and seventies

  • This song put Justin Hayward on the charts with me, the melody is strong yet pleasing. Thanks Justin

  • One of the most evocative rock songs of all time. In Search of the Lost Chord is a landmark album from the most important British group ever.

  • I love "The sound I've heard in your hello." And it's something that can't be described in words.

  • the moody blues are my god !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Discovered these guys about 10 years ago. Listened to this song about 5,000 times after splitting up with my girl friend. It goes right to the center of your being, right to your soul. Music doesn't get much better than this.

  • top of Beauty

  • this song hurts my soul I look for someone and no one is there

  • @planetjanet2 Everyone is searching for what only they can give them selves. Once they realize that you are one that makes you weep. It is lack of oneself that makes you look outside your self "There's now where you need go and the only truth we know comes so easy!"

Ask yourself are the the person that is there for you? Once you realize you are the other person will appear

  • ewokdude thay are not in the hall of fame and dont call me shirley

  • One of my favorites too...

It reaches right down past the heart into the soul of every person yearning to find that which is missing... to know that which is unseen... to feel that which is elusive... It makes me weep...

  • @MeIancholyMan You have deapth that eluides many, always, look deeper, and you will find the answer.. walt

  • @MeIancholyMan You have discovered the secret. Everyone is searching for what only they can give them selves. Once they realize that you are one that makes you weep. It is lack of oneself that makes you look outside your self "There's now where you need go and the only truth we know comes so easy!"

  • The Moody Blues In Search Of The Lost Cord Is My Favorite Moody Blues Album

  • A travesty they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

  • Their not? Surely you jest! D:

  • Time will be when they are inducted - without a doubt! They were & are so influential and creative as artists, I'm almost certain they will be inducted. Why it takes so long, I haven't a clue! (maybe it's the board for the R&R HOF?) Something worth researching, and writing to board members?

  • i capolavori non perdono il valore nel tempo

  • OK: After this song I was waiting for the other song that follows after. Like in the record. Yes the record. OK Listen when I was growing up in the 70's untill 1973. I had reel to reel Ampex tape of at least 5 Moody blues album. Non stop 5 albums reel to reel. And the questions arises. Their music is poetry and timeless.

  • Back in 1972, when I was 19 y.o. me and my buddies worked all day in small factories, smoked what weed we could find, drank coffee, tequila sunrises, beer, sometimes splurged for high end wine at $12.00 a bottle and the finest cigars at $2.00. We stayed up all hours on weekends playing chess, poker, hearts, spades and getting layed w/o coke or meth (pre shit head era), and chilling w/ the Moody Blues. Those days were simply awesome. Make them live again you young fools boycott RAP!

  • @1mredneckmother

    Pictured perfectly!

  • @1mredneckmother .......Pass.

  • @1mredneckmother -totally agree with you that gangsta rap is camp and UNCOOL.
