  • Sorry, but this was a bit disorganized compared to what it could have been

  • Why don't guys wear pointe shoes?

  • @embraceyouremo1 Around the age of 12, girls begin training with pointe shoes, while boys begin strength training in anticipation of their big jumps and partnering skills. However there are companies like the humorous Les Ballets Trockadero that feature men en pointe!

  • perfection

  • @US51351142 Aurelie Dupont cannot compare to any of the dancers who do that part in NYCB! She doesn't capture the style of the movement like the NYCB dancers do. Go watch the NYCB Jewels video on their page, there is a HUGE difference!

  • @kpopotaku121296 Where do you get this gossipy information? I don't think it is true based on their public statements.

  • RUBIIESSSS so revolutionary

  • If I had to dance one of the three, I would do rubies(:

  • Loved the white satin shoes for diamonds. (:

  • The DVD of the Paris Opera doing Jewels is a gem. If you don't have it you're missing out on something wonderful. Not only the ballet itself, but a look at the Garnie, interviews with the Etoiles, the Director of PO, the director of Jewels, and last but definitely not least, Barbara Horgan, President of GB trust, and his assistant since the 50s, She adds so much to the GB saga! Fab!!!

  • is valse fantasie its own seperate ballet, im pretty sure it is...and its ballenchines right? and how come theres not a rendition on youtube that i can watch of it?

  • Well you think such a great artist of the dance would be all over youtube, but the george balenchine trust guards youtube like a hawk for unathorized videos, they would rather not let people see the high art without paying to do so in person, too bad they dont keep it regular in the repatiory of their dance in new york, and as far as that goes most would rather show ugly contemporary dance works then classics that have not been shown in 20 years, really the dance has not art to it only technical

  • @manga12 Yes, but the problem is that not many of us can fly into Manhattan to see them, or to one the places that they tour (they haven't been near where I live for eons, if ever). And they often say to get their performances at a local library, but the last time I was able to find a copy was years ago, and then it was a VHS thing that was already degrading. Its really too bad. There are so many people wanting to see Balanchine's and NYCB's work who simply can't. A bit short sighted to me..

  • yea I know, and most of the origional dancers that learned it first hand are retireing if not all from performing, and can only teach it soo well since as time goes skill can be taught artestry can not it must be cultivated.

  • AMAZING

  • In fact, the Paris Opera Ballet in all three parts is far superior to any other company. Oh, yeah, Im a Yank.

  • I'm afraid Aurelie Dupont still holds the honors. No one can compare to her performance in Rubies and the Paris Opera Ballet.

  • I think that Sylvia Gillum is a better dancer, and Polina Seminova too. Better skill and grace.

  • @US51351142 There is another girl at PNB who was fabulous in Rubies...Kaori Nakamura...she is Japanese...and one of the best I have seen... and I have seen them ALL>>>>>

  • @ddchil41 Thanks for info on Nakamura. I will keep my open for her. I have emailed the NYCB asking why there's no DVD of them doing Jewels. The response: UNIONS!!!!!!!! How sad how much the unions have permeated our lives in such a negative way. They have destroyed Detroit. NYC next.

  • you can see at 00:31 she says srry !!!!!!!

  • Emeralds-I always think of this piece as in the French tradition, maybe its just the skirts. It moves me the most, so poignant, sad and sweet.

    Rubies-American ballet at its best.

    Diamonds-Pure Russian perfection.

  • I would like to see PNB use their feet more. I see way too many floppy feet here.

  • @labehr Spoken like a great dancer themselves! There is always room for perfection with every company no matter how great! But I still highly commend PNB for their excellence!

  • yeah I have to say that as a rule PNB is always has perfect technique and as I live in Seattle I have seen many of their productions including this one. Personally I'm not extremely fond of some of Peter Boal's artistic choices but there is no way that any dancer in that company has any problems executing his vision and the choreography perfectly.

  • I saw this company perform Movements at the Kennedy Center this past week. They were very good. I liked the music and the dancers were excellent.

  • I'm ten and I dance here! It's so much fun! I just found out that next year I can go up on pointe!

  • WHY do company's directors ect. allow for the cinematographers to get away with cutting dancers body's in half and doing close ups during performance. This is like going to the symphony and having a sound engineer tuning out the piano and yet you see the pianist banging away at the keys This way of filming does not do the choreographer any justice nor the dancer. !!!!!1 But it always always happens

  • i adore the diamonds tutu`s!!

  • hahah this is stupid ;)

  • @goodyfox11 Balanchine was one of the first to choreograph a dance without a story; this is a revelation. Clearly, you have no respect OR knowledge of dance.

  • @iDancer33 it was a joke dude chill. i love Balanchine! it was a joke. chill out.

  • @goodyfox11 ok good thanks, and sorry. i see so many people who trash dance, and it really ticks me off, you know?

  • @goodyfox11

thats rude some of us think that it is really art and it the greatest thing in the world you will never know till u try it

  • @goodyfox11 thts rude...and stupid??? fyi it takes yrs 2 get up 2 this perfection so..even if it was a "joke" thts still rude

  • Oh, those flirty rubies! They captured the look perfectly.

  • i saw this performed it utterlly amazin

  • I went to this school when i was atleast 4 or 5

    I quit 4 years later.

  • INCLUDING MIRANDA WEEESE vv

i took class from her today

  • perfection!

  • rubys is incredible

  • PNB rocks. I'd watch these people play frisbee.

  • @blueocea me too :) they would so rock at it. Especially if they did it all balletic like; we would all just be gaping at their awsomeness. And then the frisbee would hit us in the head.

  • Gorgeous.

Of course, the costumes are nowhere near as great as Paris Opera Ballet's, but then they have Christian Lacroix as their designer, and you cannot beat French style!!

But I love this production - even though as a rule I despise Balanchine's choreography....

  • how on earth can you despise Balanchine's choreography?

  • Sorry but I cannot imagine anyone who loves (or even likes) ballet claiming to "despise" Balanchine's choreography. Where would ballet be without his genius? It'd be stuck in the 19th century, that's where. And his work is so eclectic, how can one despise it as a whole?

  • Are you out of your mind? How could anyone 'despise' Balanchine's choreography?? Huh??? That must have been a weird joke.

  • Jodies Penche in Rubies is incredible! Yesss!

  • Great dance!!! the Ballerina at :40 has a REALLY good arch

  • What are you talking about?! This company is world-renowned for their high standards. I'm not American and even I know of their reputation.

  • @SonyaNatalia what do you mean by reputation?

  • @SonyaNatalia

You are so right... I was piano soloist for PNB for many years.(until recently) ..and before that NYCB...(am playing in the second piece...called 'Rubies" == red costumes...Stravinsky Music).. First piece is called Emeralds and uses music by G. Faure, and the last piece is from Tchaikovsky....

  • PNB have been performing Jewels for over 20 years now, to great critical acclaim. Francia Russell, co-founder of the company, trained directly under Balanchine, was an NYCB soloist and NYCB's ballet mistress, and is one of the few people in the world authorized by Balanchine Foundation to stage his ballets. The company is world renowned, with extremely strong dancers, and they currently even have former NYCB principals and soloists in their ranks.YES, they're MORE than ready to perform Jewels!
