I wish there was a camera at the Curva Grande and the Rossia Kink. There's essentially 'dead air' until they get to the first Lesmo. Classic footage to be sure though. Thanks for sharing!
Don't forget that Lotus was not there--the team was still under investigation for Jochen Rindt's fatal crash in 1970. Emerson Fittipaldi was there, driving a privately-entered Lotus 56 turbine, in one of its rare starts, but they had to leave the Lotus 72Ds back in England, otherwise the Italian authorities would've confiscated them.
Sad thing is the drivers these days could not drive this closely for lap after lap without crashing..... Vettel only needs to try once and he takes someone out...... :D
@dralontube Especially now when you consider that at the speeds they could get at places like Monza, a high speed off usually was something you didn't walk away from.
apache202 - this video is exactly why I no longer watch formula 1, how many times did the lead change place!! they get excited about 1 car overtaking in modern F1 here its balls out driving from start to finish.... no amount of clever graphics and commentary can make up for the fact that the racing is just not that exciting anymore!
@apache20201 Hi, you have a point. But F1 is still a sport that requires balls. Personally, I look at those who died, and really, we should be happy it is no longer like this. Families die after the death of a father, and so there is no real glory. We should be grateful for the joy these men gave us, and value it for what it is. But really, we cannot ask men to do this today for our own entertainment. Although I do really understand your comment very much. Super brave men driving on tail pipes.
Too cool. This is the reason I became a race fan.

A career highlight for the great Peter Gethin - setting an average speed record for F1 that wouldn't be bettered until 2003 by Michael Schumacher.

At that time, the F-1 was really exciting but also very dangerous.

The greatest formula one Grand Prix ever.
One only fault: Ronnie Peterson was beaten by 0.01 sec (my strictly personal view).
Mr. Ecclestone would never get this. Cars were overtaking constantly....it was a really long time ago.

Amazing, of course. They had no pit-stops, it was 1:18'12 for 55 laps with over 240 km/h for these five guys. They had balls.

What a race. As far as I know, the fastest race ever, Gethin scored average speed over 240km/h!!! First five cars within 0.6 second.
