I installed a Western Digital Scorpio Black 750GB 7200RPM laptop drive into my 1005ha netbook and the speed increase is drastic. I can safely say that the i/o bottleneck is removed from the computer in day to day tasks.
I used hddscan to query the hard drive temperature and it only runs a few degrees warmer than the 160GB 5400RPM 1-platter drive that came with the computer. Go with 7200RPM drives or hybrid drive with onboard NAND flash, they don't use much more energy at all.
Just bought one of these today for $220.00 I really like it so far. I only intend to use it for playing back my backing tracks while I jam guitar to it. :) Surfing the net and Netflix is quite nice in bed too. :)
Don't buy one, please. I'm not a computer expert or anything but seriously, this thing has broken in the same way for me 3 times now and I'm sick of it. The stupid charger port keeps breaking and so I'm unable to charge it and i'm really careful with it as well... well anyway, I'm not wasting anymore money on this pile of steaming crap. Duck ASUS and this pile of shit, I'm grabbing a Dell Inspiron.
this thing kinda sucks i just got one 1 year ago the battery is shot it is as slow as idk a moth and nothing shows up on the screen to small dont get it it sucks
I've been using my Asus netbook for about 2 1/2 years now. Great netbook. I go to college and I've done all my papers/homework on it. This thing can do more than you think. And I believe it's under $300 now, but I'm not sure. Well worth the money.
That feature(among many others) is disabled in win7 but if you google your problem you will find a program which changes the backround. Still I'dd advise you to change your operating system.
hey what should i do i have this pc and i have sppeakers for it but the jack got cracked or something and now i cant plug my speakers into it is there a way i can fix my self or do need to take it the shop ?
I've got a question, i've got a K series Arsus bought it for about 800 euros (1000dollars) can u tell me if this is a good laptop? Info - Asus K72J - Power Gear 4 self ajusting ventilator - face recognition CPU = Intel Core i5-460M, 2.53GHz VGA = ATI Mobillity Radeon HD 5470 ; VRAM: DDR3 1GB Display = 17,3" HD+ HDD = 500GB Memory = 4GB Wireless = 802.11n ODD = DVD Sup.MTI. OS = Windows 7 Premium
@theverylittleone Well it's about the same quality as most of the other netbooks the big companies are putting out (Acer, Dell (YUCK), HP, etc). I agree with you on its deign though; Asus made the 1005 a pain to work on, even on the Aspire One its easier to replace the hard drive, etc. It left me scratching my head because Asus' older laptops are a breeze to work on and easy to disassemble.
This video and the Toshiba mini NB205 were both published at the same time, yet you say that they both have "longest runtime of any netbook to date". Despite the Toshiba being 8 whilst the Asus is 9.
I can make mine in about 10 seconds, I installed "core windows 7 edition", which is a stripped down version with all the essential components for a netbook only, and disable boot UI. The core OS is the most stable system I've ever had and is perfect for netbooks! anyone interested msg me.
I have one right now and I love it, I paid $279 at best buy... but the only thing is I got a 3 cell battery that lasts 3-4 hours... very nice netbook and very powerful... I recommend it!
@Jameel819 man you should have bought the one with a 6 cell battery, which claims to last 10.5 hours, but you should know better that's not quite what you get when giving it normal use. I get about 8 SOLID hours, doing lots of different activities, with wifi on and super hybrid engine set to "power saving mode".
and to put it out there so that everyone knows, to get 10.5 hours they want you to set everything to "power saving mode", the hybrid engine, battery settings, also no wifi, no blue tooth, no aero styles, no nothing.
There is already a way to make the lid less prone to fingerprints. A checkered grip-like surface similar to a plastic handgun grip would be fingerprint resistant.
@Trazor2k0 Of course you can. Wow has very low sys req and the eee 1000 series can run it very playable. But you need to download it with blizzards own downloader if you dont have an external CD player. You can then play for free by playing on a private server like Molten Wow.
This is probably a obvious question for some, but does it support flash player because i am addicted to facebook games such as yoville, bejeweled, resteraunt city, etc. Lol

@JaydenRox11 how do you like it? i'm looking at a few different netbooks and i saw a few good reviews, just wondering how you like it? (i'd prefer a regular latptop cause of size but i hear netbooks are really good)
Omg I'm getting this soon, so I can have a laptop as well as my huge nice ASUS desktop. I've been needing a laptop, but not wanting to spend a lot on it, or get a big one!
Though many sought after this netbook there are problems that exists.
This netbook is known to have problems with its power supply. Battery/AC charger.
I bought one only to find out it had a defective battery, after numerous online research I found there are many other users struggling with the same problem.
Please if you're looking to buy this netbook, find and read some customer reviews first. There is a small margin between this and some other netbooks out there, save your headache
I have this computer, and it is great. i just have one question. I am only getting two and a half hours out of the battery. Is mine messed up? please reply. Thanks!!
I think there is a problem, yes. It should work for in excess of seven hours - at least on Power Saving Mode. High Performance Mode would still allow you to use it for over five? six? hours between recharging sessions. Never really checked, but the 63Wh battery certainly is a winner. I should get back to you on this.

I think I have this netbook or a different version that is quite similiar to this with Windows 7 Starter upgraded to Home Premium.
No problems with the AC adapter and I've had it for about a month.

Nothing in this review cant be read on the asus publicity.
Very Poor review
If you are going to review a netbook please show how it performs boot up standby youtube video web surfing running picasa3 etc etc
Please show us something, which cant be read on the manufacturers web site.
Better still AVOID everything, mentioned on the manufacturers web site.
Then you will be informing us.
Reviews like this one are a complete waste of time space and effort.
Thank you for wasting my time
