The reason why the dutch army is ineffective as a fighting force has less to do with their gay policy than what happened to them in WWI and WWII. Both wars they were reluctant to fight a total war knowing that they could never match Germany and that the harder they resist, the harsher the German occupation would be.
This essentially comprises the dutch army as an institution because great armies and good soldiers need to have glorious battles they can look back on with pride.

As a former soldier still having contacts in the present Dutch military I can affirm that combat effectivity is negative affected by introducing women and gay men. It introduces tension in the unit that distracts the soldiers and affects their professionality while doing a dangerous job.
War is too serious a matter to be influenced by political correctness and it is time someone sticks his neck out and say what is obvious to all.

The American Legion and VFW is calling on the incoming 112th Congress to repeal the radical new law next month. The whole study was flawed and it mostly was sent out to Coast Guard Members and totally ignored what the active duty combat soldier, sailor or airman thought of the repeal. :)

The reason why the dutch army is ineffective as a fighting force has less to do with their gay policy than what happened to them in WWI and WWII. Both wars they were reluctant to fight a total war knowing that they could never match Germany and that the harder they resist, the harsher the German occupation would be.
This essentially comprises the dutch army as an institution because great armies and good soldiers need to have glorious battles they can look back on with pride.

Dutch involved in resistance in one way or another: roughly 500.000. Over 125,000 Dutch civilians had lost their homes permanently.

The corporals and the sergeants executed there orders based on the priorities of the political authorities. @rukrogue, no, I think YOU are missing Sheenan's point. He thinks harm is done to unit's combat effectiviness to introduce people that are only marginal suited for first line combat and gives evidence from the past to prove his claim.
He doesn't say that gays are the cause of the drama at S. ; he says he heard from a Dutch officer that homosexuality was part of the problem that caused combat ineffectiness.
Of course Dutch politicians are to blame for sending the troops to a new Dien Bien Phu.

Furthermore, the ´marginal´ condition of Dutch troops at Srebrenica had zero influence on the outcome
And at Dien Bien Phu, French soldiers were slaughtered not Vietnamese civilians.

@rukrogue63 At Dien Bien Phu the French were trapped in a vally, surrounded by enemy occupied mountains, just like Srebrenica. Untenable military position as the French defeat proved once more.
And what is the use of an army that is second-rate ? Why pay tax money for soldiers that are good losers ? Military units should not be converted into into light armed peace keepers and policemen, it destroys combat effectiveness.

To call our military a "christian military" is just as flawed as calling the US a "christian nation." It does not matter what they are. They could all be Satanists, it wouldn't matter. They serve a SECULAR nation.

At last somebody who speaks out the truth about these issues.
As a former soldier still having contacts in the present Dutch military I can affirm that combat effectivity is negative affected by introducing women and gay men. It introduces tension in the unit that distracts the soldiers and affects their professionality while doing a dangerous job.
War is too serious a matter to be influenced by political correctness and it is time someone sticks his neck out and say what is obvious to all.

Nearly all European countries have changed their "Cold War" armies from armoured forces in great numbers into light infantry, ranger units and Military Police.
In fact, they ARE Police Forces nowadays and in that context you can allow a democratic army with all groups of the population included. But, if you want to WIN a war, you have to impose other standards.

Of course the general is right.
Everybody in the Netherlands with some military experience knew that sending our troops into a valley surrounded by enemy occupied mountains was military madness. However, politics prevailed, Dutch generals who refused to send their troops into this rat-trap were discharged, the politicians went so far as to nearly disarm the soldiers; "to give no offence to the battling parties in the conflict".
Sheer military madness; but sound political correctness.

You clearly did not take a history class at either of your Jesuit institutions of higher learning, and you must not have take a class in contraction prevention.
You just said the Dutch reshaped its military to be a peace keeper unit. They were then tasked to DEFEND an area with 400 under-equipped troops and a United Nations, that you were a Supreme Commander of, did nothing to help.
You say they were not prepared for war.
War and conquest were not the mission Mr Sheehan.

As a body language expert (which is what I do) he has several very clear signs that he is lying. He delays in answering the question on who in the Dutch army said gays caused this massacre. If you hear in his voice he delays answering and his eyes shift away from eye contact. I wish someone would give him a lie detector test or that something would expose him as lying and he be charged with lying to congress. Military men like this make me disappointed. Since 1998 Sheehan is Senior VP for the Bechtel Group, one of the private companies that stole billions from American taxpayers. Bechtel got a 680 million Iraq-reconstruction contract from the Pentagon. That reconstruction was poorly implemented and failed within months. Sheehan is a war profiteer!

What General (ret) Mr. Sheehan says is a reaction for the fact that the Dutch let the Americans down in Afghanistan.
I fully agree he is very angry about that.
Of course his comment has nothing to do with Dutch gay soldiers in Sebrenica.
