  • I discovered Jake Thackray while looking for English translations of Brassens, and since then I'm a big fan. I do not understand why he is not more famous outside of England. I've never heard songs with such humour, irony, and the melodic lines and the guitar playing are just brilliant. It is so rich, so powerfull, there is such a high degree of research in the lyrics that any stupid modern stuff like r&b sounds tasteless after this !

  • @robinvaucelles Clyde Gilmour used to play him on his weekly radio show on CBC.

Another good one is: The Red Velvet Steering Wheel Cover Driver

  • Neil Gaiman tweeted this recently.

  • neil gaiman brought me here!

  • Brilliant! Thanks for this. I was waiting for a picture of a bright-eyed young archdeacon.

  • @Philsh21 It crossed my mind, but there are libel laws...

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I won't tell anyone about Prince Albert Victor. I saw the late Jake Thackray at the Kings Head (Islington). A true national treasure.

  • jake ....brilliant.....never met him wish i did

  • Eek! You used a picture of Prince Albert Victor, not Albert the Prince Consort after whom the Hall is named. (OK, OK, I'll just get my anorak...)

  • @enochsneed: Shhhh! I don't think anyone else has noticed...

  • Champion!

  • Really part of our national treasure chest!
