  • If you think this song was good, you should hear the other polka records from the Matys Brothers...great band!!

  • Who stole the engine hoist, from my auto shop!!??!

  • PARMA!

  • I always loved this song. It got a lot of play on the Buddy Deane Show in Baltimore. It's amazing that the Matys Brothers were primarily a rockabilly group

  • Thanks for posting this. Kiszka was a real treat for me as a little boy when my dad would bring it home for me after work. I still enjoy it today, though it's harder to find. Time was, the local jewel carried it no problem. No more.

  • Not only is the keeshka missing, but also the charneena and the goluumpkies.Aw sharkrepff !! Gotta go find some polish beer to drown my sorrows.

  • klassik

  • OMG Brought me back to my Babka Flip that over and let us know...

  • Hi Everyone, I was Gene's wife. We have 2 sons Gene and Richard. They lived in Elko for awhile on and off for years. They were all born in Chester PA where there they were known as THE POLKA PRINCES. They were (in order of birth) Walt, John, Gene & Emil. They also had a sister with them called Vera. Emil's wife was their singer after Vera and eventually married Emil and had a son , Mark. Not only were they good musicians (they ALL played MANY instruments) they were great comedians, All deceased

  • Thank you so much for posting! I loved the Matys brothers record when I was growing up. :)

  • Dude sounds like Jabba the Hutt.

  • i played a cordovox for years and always played this song, the fingering alone drove me nuts the keys were not responsive enough .i now have a roland fr7 what a great box this is it makes the sax solo alot easier to keep up with these were great musician i am trully sorry they have left us rick and the crestwoods, michigan.

  • Love it!

  • i have an breakcore remix of that song :D so funny

  • OMG, yes Ghoulardi!!!

  • Where can I get the MP3?

  • @lizajane54 I have seen their records once in a while on Ebay. My daughter-in-law bought one last year that she didn't have. Told her I wanted to keep all and that the grandchildren would eventually get them. My sons are the children of Gene Matys

  • I just found this on record and love this song! Frank kaswalki

  • Cleveland,Ohio...Ghoulardi..1964.WOW.

  • Brings back memories of "Polish Broadway" on Chicago's northwest side in the 1940's, early 50's. Division Avenue was blocked off to traffic on Satuday night from Damen to Ashland, in a half mile strip of Polish Bars with Polka Bands. They were so hot and crowded on a summer night people were dancing outside in the street...one huge party with friendly policemen looking on! An Uncle visiting from Texas spoke of that night for the rest of his life.

  • I just bought a kishka at Stumpf's butchet shop in Etna, Pennsylvania, which is on the north side of Pittsburgh, on 10/2/2009. I originally went there for Slovenian smoked sausage but noticed the kishka and bought it in memory of Ghoulardi. Very good sausage!

  • WOW I haven't heard this version in a LONG time! Memories of my grandparents just came back to me hearing this version! Thank you!

  • First charted on the Billboard Hot 100 the week of 1/19/63, and made #55.

  • This one used to play in Cleveland on both the Hoolihan & Big Chuck Show and on the Ghoul (maybe even Gholardi's show). Brings back some memories. Polka music, bits, and B movies on late Friday nights. Can't beat it!

  • Thanks, I haven't heard this song in over 40 years. When I was 12 I didn't even know it had anything to do with the Polish. I'm not Polish so I just thought it was like a funny folksy jingle about a couple of old guys in a butcher shop!

  • Memories of Ghoulardi!!!

  • Oh man that Sax riff is killer!

  • @robbpeppertree Hi! The Matys Brothers were Ukrainean. They were all born in Chester Pa. However both parents were immigrants from there in the early 1900's and went through Ellis Island. Can't remember the date. But at my age? (:) I was Pearl Matys

  • @algerfrenchie My family- the Lovinskys from McDowell Street in Chester knew the Matys brothers well. We always had keeska and kielbasa every Easter. Those were the days. I was still little. What memories.

  • @robbpeppertree You would not have believed how great he was! He and Gene on the drums. They were both great and would have been famous. However they did not want to beak up the group as the others were not asked when diff companies wanted to signed the 2 to contracts.. I was Mrs. Gene Matys

  • Is this the matys brothers from elko?

  • I'm not sure where they were from.

  • @woopsme Yes! not from but lived there for a while. I posted all about them here somewhere.

  • This song spent nine weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, starting on Jan. 19, 1963. Good to hear it again.

  • @vandywilliam Hey Thanks!!! I forgot about that. Gene and I were married in 1962 and I was in the record studio when they recorded it! They wouldn't let me sing background with them. I wonder if it was because I sounded like a frog? (:) LOL? Brings back great memories!

  • It will take a while. I am in the process of putting all of my records in order and when I find it I promise that I will post it.

  • Please post the flip slide. Portki is even better and I have not heard it in years!!! Thanks!!

  • Hi Leosow, I finally got a chance to post Portki for you. The sound quality is not that good. I guess it's time to get a better camera. Enjoy

  • Their music was certainly uplifting and unique. And a lot of people agree with me by the number of hits this song has received so far. Thanks for writing !!

  • carol, have you ever tasted kishka?? What a delicious dish. I was raised by parents from the "old country" . The music is not the tune. It is about the food. We sing about our food!!Ti maiyesh kishka? =Stefan=

  • Chengloki, I remember when I was very young the first time I heard this song I asked my father what Kishka was. I don't think that I have ever tried it. If I did then I wasn't told. My Grandmother made just about every Old Country Dish and was a Great Cook.

  • Ms. Carol, Kishka was a delicious dish. I don't know of anyone who makes it anymore. What a great loss. But, I do make a good Borscht!!Oh, every "old dish", then you must love pierogy. Oh, and not to mention kielbasa. Hey gal, let's talk food. (Real food). LOL. Take care MS. Carol. If you wan't a recipe, contact me on Y-mail. I'll be glad to share. I have a great recipe for pickled mushrooms. (No ma'am, I am not gay. I just like to cook. My wife will tell you the same). =Stefan=

  • @chengloki For many who don't know , Kishka is blood sausage. though some countries used other things to stuff it. Don't knock it til you try it! It's great with mash potatoes. Some delis carry it on the East coast but not in the midwest. West coast where I am? Wish I could find it!

  • @algerfrenchie frenchie, i said it was a delicious dish. Where the hell is the knock??? (Actually, it's better with pierogi and kraut). And boo hooo, your're on the west coast? I'm in Hawai'i. Try finding it out here!!! I haven't had kishka in about 20 years.!!!! Same story for REAL Kielbasa. Hillshire farms and Johnsonville don't even come close. I think I'll get a smoker and make my own. =Stefan=

  • I was Gene's wife. My sons and I were surprised and pleased to see this. Emil's son Marc, was pleased also. They were a great group.

  • Thank you for sharing with us.

  • @wesalittle Hi! were you there when they played there? Did I know you? More than 40 yrs. They started playing there just after we married in 1962.

  • @algerfrenchie Hi, Pearl! I met Emil when I started bartending @ the Commercial in'99. We may have never met if Emil hadn't been invited with his sax onstage with Kip and Bo. All 3 HORNS! The Dixieland stuff was incredible.I got to jam with them and was awed. I met Marc at Emil's funeral. Were you there and we missed you? PMing ya... Lee
