thanks to this scene i can't tell anyone and i literally mean anyone my last name, which is pike, because as soon as i do they always say "don't tell him pike" and every time they say it is like "ow this is clever i bet he has never heard this before." i still love dads army a great sitcom and i will admit this is a really funny/classic moment in the series.
#Whistle while you work! Hitler is a twerp! He's half barmy, so's his army, whistle while you work!# I was randomly singing that in class the other day, everyone was looking at me like I was insane so I told them that their names "Were also going on ze list!"
@Goodyfan17 Apparently he was biting the inside of his mouth to stop himself laughing! It took several takes before he managed it - even then you can still hear a faint hint of a suppressed titter when he gets to 'He's half barmy'!
God Bless.. I still crease up laughing 30 yrs later .. what a fantastic programme and a credit forever to its creator... it'll still be laughed at in many hundreds of years when the world doesnt know the meaning of the word "War" ..
can someone please help me, one of my favorite episodes is when they were ask to participate in a movie en they dressed up as germans with pike as a german general. Anyone know the name of that episode?
one other episode I like was when they visit I think godfrieds cottage to help him, it was not ´´the battle of godfrieds cottage´´ because that episode was in black and white en this one was in colour, it ends when mainwairing, pike en wilson walks away and pike shoot with a imaginary thompson
GOSH...LIKE LIKE LIKE!!! Dad's Army is best Entertainment, you can't find this good humor in these day's...got the wholw collection @ home! Greetings from Germany!!!
Wow I just found out David Croft has passed away he was an awesome television writer, producer,a nd director he has made soem of my favourite televsion shows such Allo Alllo, Are you being served, and Dad's army, I have the entire colelction of Are you being served, and Dad's army on DVD, and I have most of the episodes of Allo Allo I am glad Mr. Croft lived to 89 I am sure he has lived a good life. he will always be remembered as a entertainment genius.
A toss up between 'Fawlty Towers' and Dad's Army' as to has the best ensemble cast of any British sitcom...situation comedy today can be too bitter and is mostly witless....any wonder people are going back and buying the Dad's Army DVDs....Vale David Croft.
Was talking about this bit in the pub earlier before I heard the sad news. Great times watching Dad's Army, Are You Being Served?, It Ain't Half Hot Mum, Hi De Hi and Allo Allo with all the family. David Croft R.I.P.
I recently came across someone trying to claim that 'Don't tell him Pike' is a misquote and that Mainwaring doesn't mention his name.
If he didn't say his name... then it wouldn't have been funny. And some of Pike's later lines about trying to get his name off the list wouldn't make sense.
Time and again, this excerpt is voted the funniest moment in TV. At one level, it's baffling that "Don't tell him, Pike" is the funniest thing in over 50 years of TV comedy, but at another, it's testament to the affection we hold this series in, and the comedy timing of the actors, together with the writers' skills. In comedy, less is often more.
I know another song about hitler... About his balls actually (or lack of them)... I dont know if you've heard it? Goes to the tune of 'Colonel Bogey'...
Hah!!!!! My dad always says to me 'don't tell him Pike!' and the first time I was like 'what?' and then he told me so when he says it now I'm like 'haha!' lol. And I have had the dads army theme tune in my head for the last week.... Laugh Everyone it's good for you! XD
@stevanroth just because it's about the war makes the thumbs down from a German huh for all you know it could be anyone from any where so don't just judge
My grandfather used to love this, I got him the complete box set of DvD's he really enjoyed them, few weeks later he got really ill and sadly died, this reminds me of him alot.
