We have similar speed humps near me and the same thing happens. They are dangerous speed humps as they force cyclists to ride in the gutter and prevent being able to take primary.
You can see what he tried to do,as it was a small mound speed bump he wanted to place both wheels either side to avoid bumping over it.We have all did this,but there is no excuse for doing it at the expense of almost hitting anyone.
I dont know how close he got to you,but i wouldn't expect you could place too many credit cards in the gap :(
I find most drivers, with out thinking get the timing/line wrong for those speed bumps in a overtake and forget that they brake and we generally keep a constant speed. I've taken to moving out to the middle of the lane in good time(for the two bump ones, if there aren't parked cars!) and diving left to go around it.
Looking at it I reckon they tried to dodge between the traffic calming humps. i.e I don't mind killing a cyclist but I don't want to slow down or go over a bump.
the driver should be shot, what the hell was in his/her mind, the things is, our cams are wind angle & this shows it was so close, in real terms it was inches away from you..... this driver needs his/her tested... bastard..

it's getting to the point where i am starting to think about stopping cycling to work.

The driver could easily give ample of room. It looked deliberate to me. Did you "have a word" at the red lights?
What's the betting that, if you scraped the paintwork off the car it would have been your fault?
