I'm from Canada. Lived in Newcastle for a year (Heaton). Worked in Whitley Bay at Marsden Bridge. What can I say? It's a great city. There's been a pile of changes and building since I was last there, so obviously city planners are making sure the town stays current. Maybe I'll move back when I retire.

I would like to know how many times you have been to Newcastle and for how long.
I love Newcastle and it'll be my hometown forever no matter where I live (currently Brighton). However, even though it is beautiful and enchanting in places there is a lot wrong with it. The 'charver' culture, over-familiarity (and nastiness when any individuality is expressed) and rough families having too many kids and surviving on dole-outs. You could say this about anywhere, however, having been all over the UK, there is nowhere else that this is more prevalent. Also, no alt-culture.
Love this city. I recommend every one reading the book " A history of Tyneside" or get it on DVD. You will find the history of this city and the area around it is the most fasinating in the UK.
Call at Newcastle has always been a truly pleasure for me. Just roll out from the ferry on my bike makes me feel to be in heaven again. Sadly the ferry from Gothenburg nowdays seems to be in a dry dock.

I'm from Canada. Lived in Newcastle for a year (Heaton). Worked in Whitley Bay at Marsden Bridge. What can I say? It's a great city. There's been a pile of changes and building since I was last there, so obviously city planners are making sure the town stays current. Maybe I'll move back when I retire.

Newcastle is the most disgusting, depressing shit hole I've ever had the mispleasure of visiting. Geordies are a bunch of intoxicated criminals who've allowed there once great city to turn into a government funded hellhole. You can't turn a corner without seeing a pile of sick, an 'arts project' (meant to reinvigorate the area), some Pikey or one of the disgusting buildings or bridges.
I live in London, but in my opinion Bristol is the best city.

Morning View, London is a shithole too. Even though there is a lot wrong with Newcastle, it's better than London. I live in Brighton which is amazing, but Newcastle has things going for it too. No thanks. So, why are you commenting so positively on London when you don't actually live there ...if you have family there then you'll have seen a far more positive side to London (which I'm in no doubt there are a little few parts that are nice but the rest is dire). I know people who live in the heart of London who are there for uni or trying to make a living near a 'better' job market. So far, 5 of them have been violently mugged and 4 have been burgled, the rest absolutely despise it.

I love Newcastle and it'll be my hometown forever no matter where I live (currently Brighton). However, even though it is beautiful and enchanting in places there is a lot wrong with it. The 'charver' culture, over-familiarity (and nastiness when any individuality is expressed) and rough families having too many kids and surviving on dole-outs. You could say this about anywhere, however, having been all over the UK, there is nowhere else that this is more prevalent. Also, no alt-culture.
