When Cameo first hit the scene, Wayne Cooper was the lead singer. After his death, (replacing Wayne Cooper’s voice would be impossible, as we see on all their future albums and current concerts) he put his vocal DNA on this song, making it almost impossible to duplicate by anyone: However, Phillip Bailey of Earth, Wind and Fire, could probably give this song, the best shot in a remix ….I would love to hear him try. RIP Wayne Cooper.
goodness gracious, people....LET IT GO! Wayne Cooper is no longer with us! R.I.P. give it a rest and let it rest. Singleton's a good tenor and oerformed admirally on Cameo songs, specifically the "Feel Me" and "Knights of the Sound Table" LPs. it's 20+ yrs later! noe of the tenors can still hit the same notes!
CAMEO should audition Oliver Hollingsworth and Bruce Dorsey to sing these songs-This performance with all due respect to Singleton and Jenkins is atrocious very unprofessional and amateur like. The backing vocals are decent Jenkins vocal parts are good then Singleton begins and its like ARE YOU JOKING? Are you seriously gonna embarrass yourselves like this?
Its very unprofessional for Blackman and Jenkins not to audition singers for this song to tour with C'mon brothas this aint cool
I love this song! And the masked man FUCKED IT STRAIGHT UP! ! ! ! ! ! ! Check out my Why Have I lost you, It's the way it's suppose to sound ! The way we first heard it. Bruce Dorsey Why Have I Lost You.......... I would love to perform this song with them :-) Peace
OK guys and gals thank you for your comments. I take pride in video tapping live concerts and performances. And this one is very special. Regardless of Singleton voice, he's a cool down to earth dude. Thank Cameo for doing this song. Cause in the past they didn't perform this song in concert. Think about the memories and sing along. Enjoy! -Phil
@ugmvideo I can appreciate your views on this brah . However CAMEO has done themselves a great disservice in not only refusing to perform this song after Cooper's untimely death, but in performing the song without a singer that can sing it. Listen, CAMEO only hurts themselves by not performing one of their best if not BEST SONGS they ever did. Audiences are not gonna tolerate CAMEO refusing to perform this song. They would get booed off the stage its CAMEO'S REPUTATION AT STAKE HERE
@ugmvideo IF CAMEO continues to refuse to perform the song or get a singer that can actually sing the song and do the song justice CAMEO fans will simply stop coming to their shows. CAMEO has to think about their fans instead of the bottom line, the bottom line here is that if CAMEO continues to perform like this with amateur vocals and refuse to hire singers that can perform the songs professionally CAMEO fans will abandon them . People wanna hear the songs done professionally.
They shouldn't have sang this song. The lead clearley does not have the vocals for this song or any of their songs. Truth be told, not many people can match the vocal talents of the original lead, Wayne Cooper (R.I.P).
THIS SOME BULLSHIT! WHERE CAN I AUDITION FOR THE FORMER SINGERS PART.i CAN DO THAT SHIT BETTER THANHIM STRAIGHT OUT OUF A DEEP SLEEP! ! ! tHAT'S ONE OF MY ALL TIME CAMEO SONGS AND HE SUNG IT LIKE A DRUNK AT KARAOKE.WHERE CAN I AUDITION.....DAMN....c'mon Larry Blacmon let's give this song some credibillity once again! :-)
This is one of my most favorite songs of Cameo "Why have I lost you". From my very favorite album of theirs " We all know who we are". To this day this song still makes me shiver. Just simply beautiful lyrics & melody.
Yea, I'm A Back then Cameo Fan when alot of you youngster wasnt even born or thought about lol BUT! i agree with you i went to see them in concert, This is Charlie's song but he dont have the vocal now like he had then to do this song
@CommericalCritic Wayne was up there with Phillip Bailey,Teddy Mills,Russel Thompkins, Emmanuel Johnson all the singers from those legendary bands/groups. Why Have I Lost YouPt.1,Sparkle,Why Have I Lost You Pt.2,I care for you,Feel me,I never Knew, & I'll always stay are some of the best slowjams ever and can give most joints a run for their money Im telling you! I know he didnt sing lead on them all.
@CommericalCritic Yeah, bro. Charlie had to try and carry the mantle after Wayne passed away back in the late 70's. That song is hard to sing. And no he doesnt have the chops to sing it as well as he did during their early live performances. Been a fan of the gang since 77.
@mistaeric I am so glad that I saw this and someone remembered Wayne Cooper .. I know his relatives from the PoK,NY area and to my understanding after his passing Cameo never mentioned him again due to AIDS complications. RIP Wayne Cooper you will always be in my heart! God Bless!
Huh....the other guy singing is Charlie Singleton! Not the "bass" player. He was with the group since 1981...and had various solo projects and still with them today. THough the vocals don't sound that great here, he is an excellent guitarist
Why the hell did Tommie not sing the ENTIRE SONG!! You can hear his voice could have pulled it off. no disrespect to the guy on the bass but he needed to not sing this.
I don't care how much of a fan u r ... Singleton fucked that performance up , big time ! me and my boys sang the shit on the corner better than that....he was fuckin horrible!
El, Bobby (RIP), Prince could do the part in his sleep (see Scandalous, Adore, Do Me, etc. etc.) but obviously they aren't going to tour with Cameo, not that El is that busy, so they really should add a new member just sing this part right. Even if they're in the background to bridge the gap it would be better then Singleton stretching to try to hit notes out of his range.

Yall don't know what you're talkin' about! First off...Tomi Jenkins is singing his original part in this video..."Let's talk about lonliness!"...The guy singing Wayne Cooper's part is Long-time guitarist Charlie Singleton, (who actually sounds WAAAY better than he's performing here) but he's not up to doing Wayne's part. Charlie even put out a couple of albums as a solo artist himself! TRUST ME...he does sound better.

This version wasnt that bad, Cmon! Singing in falsetto live can be very challenging, and you guys are trying to compare the original record cut, (edited and enhanced) to a live set! On top of that, the audio people had the sound stuffed, as you can clearly see the poor guy struggling to hear himself.
Instrumentally, the band is quite tight, and vocal wise, and main vocalist was in key all the way(except in two phrases that I noticed), so give some credit.....
Youve gotta be joking- Singleton has no business attempting this song originally recorded by Wayne Cooper- On Singletons best day he couldnt touch
This song or Coopers vocals-
He is embarrassing himself
The only singers that could dream of singing this song and doing it justice would be Phillip Bailey-Ted Mills)Blue Magic) Rusell Thompkins-Johnnie Wilder,Jr(Heatwave) Tommy DeBarge
and possibly Prince in his high register
However Cooper made this song impossible for anyone to dupicate!
@InfinityNebula : I might disagree with you on the part of Prince being a selection. He sings mostly falsetto. Yes, I have heard a lot of his slow jams and they are good. But for this one, he doesn't have the urgency or control Philip Bailey does. I think Bailey would be the best choice for it.

i don't understand all of the bitching. of course it's not as good as the original but this was no butchering of the song. Still a very good live performance. Stop with the drama lol

@DeeJayRoyalT Well spoken. Who's the dude with Charlie Singleton anyway? It ain't Tommy Jenkins. I KNOW what he looks like. God Bless Wayne Cooper, the original vocalist on this jam.
@ladyjae65 Then you KNOW that IS Tomi Jenkins. There are plenty of videos of him performing Sparkle and Keep it Hot by himself. You will not see Cameo without him.
@RJTheMack Sorry. It doesn't look like him at all! I did know thats he's been bald for awhile. I've seen them in concert several times. I believe I still have 20/20 ...lol
@DeeJayRoyalT---When I started hearing this MASH up of TOTAL vocal retardation...I was like WHO DA HELL told him he could even touch the sheer volacity and vocal power of the original falsetto singer--the late great, WAYNE COOPER?!? This dude (or DUD) doesn't even come close! Hell, I'd hide my face, too! LOL!
You know what's the WEIRDEST, STRANGEST thing...((besides this hideously sung song))?!? I can't find a THING written specifically about the late, great, Wayne Cooper! It's like his life had no meaning enough for a personal recognition and timeline of his life...and death. I thought I had found a site (famous singers who died of AIDS) that would...and out of all the people listed (even Sylvester was listed)...the ONLY thing was his name. Some of you cats are ignorant with your knowledge of Cameo. Cameo is a favorite of mine from days of old..However If you cant find a vocalist to sing Wayne Cooper' powerful soprano vocals you probablt shouldnt attempt the song.. the public will always be dissapointed..Phillip Bailey Russell Thompkins and many others would be Incredible on this song...Gotta be careful reproducing a classic masterpiece like Why Have I lost You..This is one of the all time R&B Ballads of all time!! I said no what happened to many cigs or what but i will alway love this band also check out the other sparkle.
Wow, you are cruel. I believe that Tomi Jenkins and Wayne Cooper(RIP)sang the original. A short while after Wayne died guitarist Charlie Singleton joined the group and did a great job singing Wayne's parts. I remember seeing them when I was about 15 right after he joined. I'm not sure if that's Charlie in the mask or not but if it is he has definitley lost a step cuz he's phenomenal guitarist and vocalist.
Why have i lost you??

Love hearing the song, but it's not the same if Wayne Cooper is not singing it. Can you find that video.
