Absolutely beautiful, musical, and accessible drumming. May Leon Parker continue to be a countervailing trend to so many who play so much to impress so few.
HOLD ON ONE SECOND. He's my hero. Does he ever teach? I've got a lesson with him on my bucket list. Please PM me. I'll fly to France for it (if he still lives there), no kidding.
Did anybody see Leon parker and Ugana Okegwo with Brad Mehldau on piano in the early '90s? F-ing unbelievable. They were together as a band for several years. Saw them dozens of times back then, but there seem to be no recordings or videos. If anybody has one please post!
Couldn't tell you who the bass player is, but your comment on the time signature got my attention. Interesting how it slides between 7/8 and 7/4, and with Leon's dotted rhythms over that we've got a polyrhythmic gumbo on the burner. You must be a fan of Max Hampton. Yes?
Jacky Terrasson is my new favorite jazz pianist. This guy's CD "A Paris" hooked me to him. I plan to buy everything of his I can find in the near future.
This guy and Benny Green are the best young pianists I've heard since Marcus Roberts and the late Kenny Kirkland.
real groove.........

Wow no hats. That's crazy. I've never seen anyone play without hats especially jazz. He doesn't lose anything though. I like this.

I randomly found at a used CD store "Lover Man" with this lineup. Incredible 1993 session with standards uniquely arranged, I too was hooked.
