I'd think anyone involved in this would want people to hear it. Ahmet Ertegun is taking a dirt nap, the band members are millionaires in their 60's on their way to the grave or crematorium. Silly human, silly human race.
I didn't get the significance of this video in '91. In fact, I would tune away 'cause I thought the beginning was cheesy. Several years later as a huge Yes fan, I knew better. How cool is it not only Jon Anderson and Chris Squire doing their thing but: Steve How AND Trevor Rabin on guitars; Rick Wakeman AND Tony Kaye on synths; and Bill Bruford AND Alan White on drums? Past & then Present together!
the idea is . . . that by making the music "free" you are essentially taking money from the owners of the music who make their money by royalties. you don't need to make money off it to infringe. that's the issue.
I will kiss the person who puts this up WITH my favorite song by Yes, composed by Trevor..UP!!!! :D Really.. ;-) Argh...I want the song back up with the video..someone make this a Merry Christmas and fix this video! ;-)
Could you please tell me what is the music being played right now. I love YES but I think this one is really good. About youtube policies it sounds they are forced to ban your video from the copyright owners. It's silly since you are not making money of this neither taking any advantage.
@rfmauri What I like is that "The Prodigy" went beyond the bounds of the YouTube copyright policy which I was quite lucky to have come upon, that being, they have a statement that if included in the video description..over rides the policy..and in that manner...their songs can be used in entirety in the form of promotion of their music..regardless of the video...which is a bit risky from that perspective..but they went for it...and that is how I discovered The Prodigy's music..it works.
@tennesseeink You´re most welcome. That´s a shame that Youtube deleted my first account due to my willing to promote the band which managers don´t care about it at all!
This is one of my favorite songs by YES (Lift ME Up). I've watched it on youtube via their stage performance in 1991. Sad that they won't let you have the audio. It's a very underrated song.
@menatoq I tell you why. At the time I was asked by Youtube staff to change the audio, the only choice I had instead of funk or hip hop was this beautiful piece.
@menatoq I told them I was a fan trying to promote the band I love since we haven´t seen in the last 30 years any attempt of Yes doing it for themselves. No decent website, no decent online store and many amateur policies from the managers that keep the band away from the media. I´ll keep trying until I die, for sure.
What cheezy mid-80s style production. AWBH basically had that same sheen too, so you can't lay this at the feet of Rabin & Kaye. Would love to hear the YesWest and AWBH lineups recorded with the sound/production of Drama.
I always thought it odd that all eight guys were shown in this vid when it is clearly the Rabin led "YesWest" line-up of Anderson, Rabin, Squire, White & Kaye. They look uncomfortable in the first shot!
When "Onion" came out, I saw this video ONE time on MTV. I was disappointed it wasn't on Yesyears or the Greatest Hits vhs tapes. I'm glad to see it again. I don't believe this video got a lot of airplay on television.
The harmonies and the arrangement in this song are incredible. One of my all time favorite Yes songs. Trevor Rabin definitely gave Yes an awesome transitional sound. No wonder he is writing soundtracks for movies.
Despite the opening shot, it's pretty clear this is a song from the 90125 lineup. Howe and Wakemen are only in archival shots, and in the non-archival shots of Bruford he appears rather bored.
Still, since hearing this on the big 5-disk set hey put out a while ago (forget the name) I've enjoyed it - but I guess that's true for most of that lineup anyway (until after this album at least).
The introduction, while very good, is basically another song. This bulk of the song stands very well without it, and there's basically nothing from the intro that is featured in this section from what I can tell except perhaps an oft-repeated drum line.
The Union album isn't great--but I don't think it's as bad as the band members say. Rick Wakeman calls it the "Onion" album because he says it makes him CRY--lol.
It doesn't matter why they all got together, the Union tour was amazing! Just enjoy the brief moment in time when Yes was trully complete on one stage!!!!
Funny. Bruford, Wakeman, Howe never played on this track, yet they are featured on this promo video. A Union, indeed! I hasten to add that I love the album, despite all the bad press from both the fans & ...well, the press.
Maybe the Union album was a "fake", but I've been told the tour was GREAT. I'm sorry to tell but a new YES band with 8 great members like that never will be possible again. UNION -One of my favourites Yes albums.
Yeah, it's unfortunate that this was not an 8 man musical project. It was actually an Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe album that had a few Yes tracks from Trevor and Chris (the more we live-let go)The ABWH tracks had Chris singing back-up but the bass playing on those tracks was Tony Levin (King Crimson) who is another phenominal bass player. He is also heard on alot of Peter Gabriels' solo stuff.
I betcha when they showed the eight singing it a capella at the start it was not really eight voices you heard. It was likely Jon, Chris, Trevor, Alan, and maybe Tony. Steve, Rick, and Bill's voices were probably not on the recording. They just wanted to give you the idea that this is a "united" (Union) eight man band. We know now that it wasn't. It was a ploy by Arista to make money. While the tour was great, the Union cd was a joke! (except for a few Rabin songs like Life Me Up).
Quote: "I betcha when they showed the eight singing it a capella at the start it was not really eight voices you heard. It was likely Jon, Chris, Trevor, Alan, and maybe Tony."
Agreed, although I doubt it was even those five. To my ears, it just sounds like Trevor and Chris together, possibly multi-tracked to achieve that 'full' sound (plus the obvious reverb). I don't hear Jon's voice in there anywhere, and if any of the others are singing, they're pretty low in the mix.
This was a great reunion when this happened in 91. If Yes ever gets in the hall of fame one day its possible this lineup could reunite Wakemean is a ?? mark but i could see Bruford Kaye Rabin def.
This is just a stunning song and video: The alternating lead vocals with Jon and Trevor, the thick, multi-tracked harmony vocals, the warm acoustic guitar throughout, Trevor's typically melodic lead electric guitar parts, the uplifting lyrics of strength in the face of sadness and struggle, the exemplary musicianship, etc. As the Brits like to say, "brilliant."
I'd think anyone involved in this would want people to hear it. Ahmet Ertegun is taking a dirt nap, the band members are millionaires in their 60's on their way to the grave or crematorium. Silly human, silly human race.
