Watching Adama's open invitation to join the mission and scenes again...wow. Battlestar Galactica (TRS) is way underrated, especially the soundtrack composed by Bear McCreary.
Anyone who says Doctor Who is for kids is wrong. It is accessible to kids, yes, but the creators are fully aware that it's audience goes beyond children.
5. Hmm, a toss-up from the 5th spot on. I'd be okay with Star Trek: The Next Generation, Stargate Universe, Battlestar Galactica, or even Farscape (which I'm still not done watching yet). There are probably another two dozen shows I would put before X-Files and Doctor Who.
X files= Brilliant, Dr Who= Decent but for kids.Twilight Zone= Brilliant but dated. Star Trek= Good but again dated. BSG= Good but massively overated.
doctor who 32 season maybe more over 650 episodes i started it at the age of 13 and my parent started it when they were 13 too it's an amazing show it should me number 1

I agree, battlestar galactica is the best, but only because its something new, no warpdrive, no shields, no phasers and no lasers and other oldschool!
The only thing im sorry about is that it ended. I wish i had forgotten it all so that i could watch it and be shocked by it all over again.
What i think was the only fail was that they still had a monetary economy and social stratification, but that's propably only me since im a govt hater...
@Beef1188 Lasers are real and a phaser might be an inphase laser (energy is all as close to the same frequency as possible so said to be in phase) also real, a pulsar might be a pulse laser (microsecond built ups energy shot as nanosecond bursts) also real technology. However Lasers travel in a straight line so you wouldn't see it unless you were looking straight at it or where it hits an object, can also see if it was passing through steam or some gases.
That is not what i was talking about. I was talking about everybody keeps copying laser and phasers and similar in their sci-fi all the time, unlike here where its "guns in space".
@Beef1188 Old fashion bullets might do around 3,000 to 6,000 miles per hour but lasers, inphase lasers, and pulse lasers travel at approximately 186,000 miles per second. so would be harder for the enemy to avoid. Of course would actually be invisible and a narrower beam than shown on the shows. Pulse lasers burst could be a nano second (1/1000,000,000 of a second) burst repeated every microsecond (1/1,000,000) of a second something they couldn't really illustrate on the tv shows.
@hydrolito What's wrong with you, im not talking about the technical stuff but their rather them being used too often in Sci-fi which made it uninteresting.
@Beef1188 Visible lasers, phasers and pulsars to see what was going on, if invisible who would know what was going on. The visuals were there to make it interesting not technical. Couldn't actually deflect beams with a light saber as in star wars so was done for entertainment purpuses. Used robots, androids, changling, holograms, etc. so did other things. Old fashions guns would not make it any more interesting either as they were used in cop, action, westerns & war movies so over used more.
At least this is an improved special effects version of Dr. Who the original had worst special effect than Lost in Space. I never really got into the new Battle Star Galactica that much I think I saw just about every episode of the original and to anyone who watched the original it made no sense why was Starbuck and Boomer turned into women and Colonel Ti turned into a white haired caucasian?
@Shyanmar I think Alfred Hitchcock was Mystery. Twilght Zone sometimes dealt with scifi but Outer Limits did it more both often had more original concepts than Star Trek which often used plots from old movies such as the teleporter taken from the fly, computer that play chess from around the world under the sea, Charlie X a kid that creats whatever he wants idea was taken from an episode of the outer limits. Turlaine and Q may have been inspired by Mr. Mxyzptlk from comics.
@hydrolito story about a boy that creats whatever he wants was called A good Life and was on Twilight Zone not Outer Limits. Kid was played by Will Mumy later to become famous on Lost in Space.
@Shyanmar I agree with you too, but you are a nerd, and I mean that in a nice way. You have to remember shows like X files and Twilight zone were shown to a huge audience unlike Babylon 5 and Farscape. Dr. Who may not be big in the USA but its massive over seas. I do believe that Stargate could have bumped Twilight zone though.
@Shyanmar dr. who is a british sci-fi series that started back in the sixties and then got a face lift (new series) about 6 years ago(6 new seasons). its my personal favorite tv series and i would recommend watching the newer series if your into sci-fi.
BSG best ever i was like is she joking O.o ok lets face it bsg have rly nice effects and stuff but in essence very boring compered to lets say star trek, star gate(not SGU), doctor who even babylon5 and list goes on. also you cant compere x files and twilight zone to star trek. x-files is awesome. 3 shitty sci-fis you insane all are good.
@Damon242 well it is made to entertain me right i mean bsg have good story but all that drama is killing me i'm watching series(got to s3) and i had many episodes where i thought man this episode is long i expected more space action i see space ships guns ace pilots/rookies and when they fight
i feel like they just fast forward like its not important and i still didnt saw galatcticas engineering and armaments. i judge all but i cant remove that entertain factor i hope to see more in s3/4
@trance22355 Fair enough. The only point I wanted to make is that one's entertainment, though a very important aspect for the individual, does not dictate the overall quality of the series. And the greatest television shows in any list such as this must come with drama, or otherwise don't make the cut. Drama is what television is really about.
As for Battlestar Galactica, the first branch of episodes in season 3 are considered the series' best. If they don't do it for you, it's best to stop.
@Damon242 i agree with you but i think bsg would be better if it was more like original (at last if starbuck was male) also i think it would be a lot better if it was less tragic, and hate that part where they mix politics in.but all in all i'm interested in story and ofc some battles.
@trance22355 We'll agree to disagree on those points; I believe that it's the better for being less like the original and involving the politics (although aspects of that could certainly have been better executed) - I also don't mind Starbuck being a woman.
I did have issues with the show, but I found solace in those episodes where they got the formula right - such as the Pegasus and Resurrection Ship storyline in season 2 and the New Caprica storyline (the first branch of season 3 episodes).
@Damon242 well they could use little more logic when making story like that female admiral it was like watching german labor camp and another two fail captains how the hell could ppl like that get command.
and that president is going on my nervs.i hoped that she will die and free me from agony :D
@trance22355 How does her storyline defy logic? The entire point of it was that a) she wasn't always like that (the impact of the situation and of command), and b) what a situation like that will do to people (war, mentality, absence of law, etc). And in fact, most of the show's politics deal with those issues.
Hmm. Having read that, it's probably best you just discontinue watching the show. It's obviously not for you, and there are plenty of other shows out there you can spend your time on.
@Damon242 well if there were lef 50k people in universe do you rly think they would spent time doing politics. i think they would unite to survive not devide that is logic and. nah still interested on how it will end and what the is going on with that Gaius. got to finish what i started cant leave it on half XD
@trance22355 50,000 leaderless people would not survive - especially of different cultures, religions, etc. As pointed out very early on in the series they have conflict over everything. Logically, as is evidenced throughout history - before civilizations are established, they would otherwise tear themselves apart if an authority is not established - and with authority will always come politics.
LMAO no Stargate SG-1? I watch all of these programmes and can honestly say SG-1 far out ranks them all. Quantum Leap and Farscape are also better than all but Star Trek in that list...
I don't get the Firefly love some people have. I DID like it when it was on, but we're talking about a show that had a total of 14 episodes. Hardly a top five sci fi of all time. I'm wondering if there are a lot of fans of westerns that were just happy to see a sci fi / western crossover.
I wouldn't put it ahead of B5, Stargate or Farscape, which also weren't on the list.
I just finished watching the complete series of battlestar galactica and I got to say it's awsome. It's one of the best tv series I have ever seen. If I didn't see this video I would of never known about battlestar galactica thanks ign :)
I'm a huge Sci-Fi fan and it's very hard to choose one and the only favorite tv show but my favorites are: The X Files, Farscape, Babylon 5, RoboCop: The Series, The 4400, TekWar, Earth: Final Conflict, Torchwood, Lexx, Lois & Clark, Andromeda, Twilight Zone, SeaQuest, Total Recall 2070, Code Name: Eternity, Level 9, M.A.N.T.I.S., Jake 2.0, Firefly PLUS Fantasy/Sci-Fi - Xena, Buffy, Angel and Mortal Kombat Conquest

Battlestar is not only without a doubt qualitatively the greatest science fiction show ever, it is the second best show of all time. Only The Sopranos stands above it, and those were 60-minutes, uncensored, and David Chase had complete (literally) creative freedom. It's not a fair fight. hydrolito 7 months ago
@hydrolito What's wrong with you, im not talking about the technical stuff but their rather them being used too often in Sci-fi which made it uninteresting.
Concentrate man!
Beef1188 7 months ago
@Beef1188 Visible lasers, phasers and pulsars to see what was going on, if invisible who would know what was going on. The visuals were there to make it interesting not technical. Couldn't actually deflect beams with a light saber as in star wars so was done for entertainment purpuses. Used robots, androids, changling, holograms, etc. so did other things. Old fashions guns would not make it any more interesting either as they were used in cop, action, westerns & war movies so over used more.
hydrolito 7 months ago
@hydrolito ENOUGH! Im not interested in the science behind this stuff but the lameness of it being used all the time.
Beef1188 7 months ago
rightly deserved 1 st place )) stargate, the only decent stargate was the film and even that sucked in comparison!

At least this is an improved special effects version of Dr. Who the original had worst special effect than Lost in Space. I never really got into the new Battle Star Galactica that much I think I saw just about every episode of the original and to anyone who watched the original it made no sense why was Starbuck and Boomer turned into women and Colonel Ti turned into a white haired caucasian?
hydrolito 7 months ago
Hell yes battlestar galactica, the best tv series ever
ismetbaba 7 months ago
OK, the X files and twilight zone are MYSTERY, not SCI FI, I don't even really know what the fuck doctor who is ...
Series that definitely belong among the top 5:
Stargate
Babylon 5
Farscape
IGN, you're retarded.
Shyanmar 7 months ago 2
@Shyanmar I agree with you on that list
pimpjuice739 7 months ago
@Shyanmar I think Alfred Hitchcock was Mystery. Twilght Zone sometimes dealt with scifi but Outer Limits did it more both often had more original concepts than Star Trek which often used plots from old movies such as the teleporter taken from the fly, computer that play chess from around the world under the sea, Charlie X a kid that creats whatever he wants idea was taken from an episode of the outer limits. Turlaine and Q may have been inspired by Mr. Mxyzptlk from comics.
hydrolito 7 months ago
@hydrolito story about a boy that creats whatever he wants was called A good Life and was on Twilight Zone not Outer Limits. Kid was played by Will Mumy later to become famous on Lost in Space.
hydrolito 7 months ago
@Shyanmar I agree with you too, but you are a nerd, and I mean that in a nice way. You have to remember shows like X files and Twilight zone were shown to a huge audience unlike Babylon 5 and Farscape. Dr. Who may not be big in the USA but its massive over seas. I do believe that Stargate could have bumped Twilight zone though.
marcuelcajon 7 months ago
@Shyanmar dr. who is a british sci-fi series that started back in the sixties and then got a face lift (new series) about 6 years ago(6 new seasons). its my personal favorite tv series and i would recommend watching the newer series if your into sci-fi.

some good choices however anyone who puts together a list of top Sci-Fi shows and does not include Babylon 5 in there, is simply not a list at all.

3 shitty sci-fis you insane all are good.
trance22355 8 months ago
@trance22355 "in essence very boring compared to lets say star trek, star gate, etc..."
Just needing clarification here. Are you judging these shows in terms of how much they entertained you, rather than their content and execution?
Damon242 8 months ago
@Damon242 well it is made to entertain me right i mean bsg have good story but all that drama is killing me i'm watching series(got to s3) and i had many episodes where i thought man this episode is long i expected more space action i see space ships guns ace pilots/rookies and when they fight
i feel like they just fast forward like its not important and i still didnt saw galatcticas engineering and armaments. i judge all but i cant remove that entertain factor i hope to see more in s3/4
trance22355 8 months ago
@trance22355 Fair enough. The only point I wanted to make is that one's entertainment, though a very important aspect for the individual, does not dictate the overall quality of the series. And the greatest television shows in any list such as this must come with drama, or otherwise don't make the cut. Drama is what television is really about.
As for Battlestar Galactica, the first branch of episodes in season 3 are considered the series' best. If they don't do it for you, it's best to stop.
Damon242 8 months ago
@Damon242 i agree with you but i think bsg would be better if it was more like original (at last if starbuck was male) also i think it would be a lot better if it was less tragic, and hate that part where they mix politics in.but all in all i'm interested in story and ofc some battles.
trance22355 8 months ago
@trance22355 We'll agree to disagree on those points; I believe that it's the better for being less like the original and involving the politics (although aspects of that could certainly have been better executed) - I also don't mind Starbuck being a woman.
I did have issues with the show, but I found solace in those episodes where they got the formula right - such as the Pegasus and Resurrection Ship storyline in season 2 and the New Caprica storyline (the first branch of season 3 episodes).
Damon242 8 months ago
@Damon242 well they could use little more logic when making story like that female admiral it was like watching german labor camp and another two fail captains how the hell could ppl like that get command.
and that president is going on my nervs.i hoped that she will die and free me from agony :D
trance22355 8 months ago
@trance22355 How does her storyline defy logic? The entire point of it was that a) she wasn't always like that (the impact of the situation and of command), and b) what a situation like that will do to people (war, mentality, absence of law, etc). And in fact, most of the show's politics deal with those issues.
Hmm. Having read that, it's probably best you just discontinue watching the show. It's obviously not for you, and there are plenty of other shows out there you can spend your time on.
Damon242 8 months ago
@Damon242 well if there were lef 50k people in universe do you rly think they would spent time doing politics. i think they would unite to survive not devide that is logic and. nah still interested on how it will end and what the is going on with that Gaius. got to finish what i started cant leave it on half XD
trance22355 8 months ago
@trance22355 50,000 leaderless people would not survive - especially of different cultures, religions, etc. As pointed out very early on in the series they have conflict over everything. Logically, as is evidenced throughout history - before civilizations are established, they would otherwise tear themselves apart if an authority is not established - and with authority will always come politics.
Name a society today that doesn't have politics.

BSG is clearly the winner, very emotional and has great bit of everything.
SG-1 comes close, yes it may be longer but thats not the point.
Then Atlantis and then Star Trek NG.
mupp33n 10 months ago
#5 Firefly, #4 Stargate Atlantis, #3 Farscape, #2 Babylon 5, #1 Stargate SG-1 . . . in my opinion. I haven't watched BSG yet though.
ZGoten 10 months ago
