Even though I think that Bob Dole would have done well as president, thank you so much for re-electing Bill Clinton because he was one of the greatest presidents
Speaking as a conservative, but not for conservatives, I think it is time to acknowledge Bill Clinton's uncanny political ability. The man talked Left, acted slightly right-center, endured a scandal all while successfully painting the Republican party as an amalgam of small children. I do not agree with everything he did in office, but at some point us Republicans should tip our caps and analyze his political strategies.
To be totally fair, Dole was more with it at that age than either Reagan or McCain was. But Clinton handled it just right, respecting the man but showing he was more trustworthy on the issues.
@Siskonx01 obviously. i was talking about deifying the ideas that were around in the 1770s that are morally abhorrent today. (obviously some of them were and are right, e.g. republicanism, separation of church and state, etc.)
@Siskonx01 That's why the Constitution was written: To replace those ideas.
When Reagan nominated Robert Bork to the Supreme Court, I saw a cartoon of Joe Biden saying "Your views are from another century!" Bork said "Precisely," and he was holding "US Constitution 1787." Not a bad cartoon, but it had a big flaw in it: I noticed there was no "Bill of Rights 1789" attached.
Bill Clinton was far and away the best debater in U.S. Presidential history. Put it this way: Obama crushed McCain in all three debates and McCain is known as a brilliant debater. Obama wouldn't stand a chance against Clinton.
@LocoYoFla that is true. actually they weren't so nice in 1980, 1984, 1992, and especially 1988. Dole ran a more honest campaign. Reagan and Bush just loved to bash their opponents.
@MSH786 if you are an AMERICIAN he fought for your freedom , by the look of your home page you are not , I suggest you read a good book and eat a pork chop !!!!

@secrets313 That's taking it a bit far don't you think? He's much better than Obama, Bush and Bush Sr but he's not even in the top 10-15 presidents of all time. It's literally impossible for any modern day president to top what Washington, Lincoln and even FDR did while in office. Clinton didn't accomplish jack in comparison.
With that said....is he available to take over in the white house again??? jk

But before 9/11 Bush cut counterterrorism funding and didn't listen to his counterterrorist aids. When Clinton was in office Republicans criticized him for focusing too much on terrorism
The Republicans threw Dole under the bus in this election. They realized early on that it was a mistake to choose him, and that he wasn't going to win, so they chose to invest more time and money into maintaing their control of Congress, which they did.
I know I am so sick and tired of Presidential Candidates Like Bob Dole and John McCain, who think it's there turn because of them being older and more experienced. People don't vote based on experience they vote based on ideas and that is why they both lost.

It makes you wish that Dole would have said something to the effect of "You shouldn't be worried about my age, but you should be worried about the age of Clinton's ideas" first before Clinton's smarmy ass got the chance to use it.
Clinton didn't "get the chance to use it," he thought it up and Dole didn't. That's why people win debates, because they can think of better points and counterpoints.
You actually aren't using the term "Sour Grapes" correctly. Having Sour Grapes would be like if someone voted for Dole then when he lost said something like "Well Dole probably wouldn't have made a good president anyway". I just think think it's annoying how people like Clinton say stuff that sounds good, but has no substance and the way the public eats it up.
actually I DID use sour grapes correctly since you were whining about Clinton using the put-down before Dole. maybe you need a dictionary?...so you can "think think", as you put it.
It's a figure of speech not a word. It's from Aesop's fables. The fox kept trying to get the grapes the whole time then when he couldn't he said to himself "the grapes were probably sour anyway" Me complaining about Clinton using the put-down before Dole isn't the same thing. The "think think" comment was pretty funny though. I didn't realize I did that. lol
Barack Obama needs to use that same strategy because John McCain's age isn't an issue but the age of his ideas are. I need to be Barack Obama's campaign adviser, lol.
the Australian Labor Party strategists should be over in the U.S on the Obama campaign at the moment - Australia was in a somewhat better position that what America is in at the moment (no massive deficit) and they ousted a government that had been in power for almost 12 years.
@MrLIBERAL87 According to every source I've seen (i. e. Biographical Directory of the U. S. Congress), Dole was born on 22 July 1923, making him 73 when this debate took place.
@lawford83 Holy crap, you're right. WOW! I can't believe they would nominate someone that old, and then McCain? Gosh, you'd think they would be concerned about someone that old in the White House.
I mean, 60 is pushing it, but 73? Thats just rediculous.
@CaptainCarrotify The person I mentioned being 73 was Bob Dole. I never said McCain was 73.
By the way, McCain is almost 74 now. On election night 2008 he was 72....... so you check YOUR facts please and read peoples' comments a little more carefully.

On a wall facing out to sea on the southern coast of England, I wrote 'Bob Dole 2008'. I thought it would be pretty funny.

How old was Senator Dole in 1996?
msynman 3 years ago
I think he was about 73.
lawford83 3 years ago
That is a pretty fair age.
But, then again, Reagan was 73 when he began his second term; and I think Churchill was well into his 70's during his second term.

@lawford83 He wassn't that old in 1996. He was in his early 60's. McCain WAS nearly that old in 2008.

MrLIBERAL87 1 year ago
@MrLIBERAL87 Mccain was 69 years old in 2008, check your facts please.
CaptainCarrotify 1 year ago
@CaptainCarrotify The person I mentioned being 73 was Bob Dole. I never said McCain was 73.
By the way, McCain is almost 74 now. On election night 2008 he was 72....... so you check YOUR facts please and read peoples' comments a little more carefully.

i strongly agree on bill clinton,
you do not attack the person directly,
you attack based on his ideologies.
