@TSorovanMHael Thanks for that, sadly the beans overwhelmed the sweet potato & it didn't grow. I haven't bothered to try that variety again. We're growing some purple skin/white flesh & also some gold sweet potatoes. You've inspired me to have another go this year while there's still time. cheers
@mugsyjeff I live in the northern hemisphere in the western USA, so it's snowing right now. hah. I've never seen that purple variety before, it's gorgeous. The yellow/orange pigment in some varieties is beta carotene that's also found eponymously in carrots Either way, I sure do love eating the things. I also think it's interesting that SP's are a variety of morning glories. Good luck.
@TSorovanMHael Wow, thanks for that, actually those SP's are sold over here under the name of Hawaiian SP's, I must get some before it's too late. What I've grown for the first time is purple skin carrots,I've just harvested some, a lot of whats above the ground turned greenish. When washed, scrubbed & finely grated gives a beautiful array of colors.I'll make an upload with them in spring rolls. Thanks again, enjoy the snow, bye for now.
@mugsyjeff I love those purple skinned ones, you just WANT to eat them. Awesome fact: almost all carrots used to be like that! Orange carrots have two copies of a defective gene that knocks out their ability to produce anthocyanidins. If you cross purple carrots with orange the offspring are generally purple as well. (IDK how much you know about genetics) For some reason the rare mutant orange became a fad in the late 18'th century. I read too much on the internet, obviously.
@iggyboy60 Thanks for that iggy, good luck with it. My ginger's not doing as well as i'd have liked it to, due to all the rain we've had. Only 2 of the gagangal sprouted plus i got a third 1 from a lady i met at the plant nursery. There all doing fantastic. I'm looking forward to using it in my thai soups. I hope to hear from you again iggy, take care. cheers for now
Hello Jeff and Wilma. It's good to see a video from you two. Your garden is looking wonderful! I look forward to your Spring/Summer receipes as we are going in to our Fall/Winter months in the states. Take care!
@TigerlilyCO2007 Thank you Susan, I've just about exhausted all my recipes. Maybe I'll try to talk Wilma into showing what she does with the pak choi. We had some for lunch with spuds, of course & fish. Thanks again Susan, I hope all's well with you, take care. bye for now.
@wmkk808 Thank you wally, let me know if you missed anything via the accent. I realise I should have spoken a bit clearer outside. I'm not sure if the galangal will grow, I might be able to get some fresher roots, if these don't sprout in a couple of weeks. I'll do an upload on the pink-eye potatoes. These are really special potatoes. I've got a couple ready to harvest any time I'm ready, I'm just letting them grow bigger. Well, thanks again Wally, I'll catch ya later, bye.
The purple in the sweet potatoes are anthocyanidins, found in a huge variety of plants such as berries, red cabbage, red onions, flower petals, etc.
There has never been any evidence of cancer fighting properties "in vivo." Lots of things will kill cancer cells laboratory grown in test tubes.
