Why are the language lessons on this channel not bundled in playlists by language? Difficult to find an overview, good material but messy presentation!
I'm sorry to say that, but the tones are stopping Chinese from becomming a mainstream language more than anything else. It's pointless and tiring to Europeans to sing while speaking. Cantonese is even worse with the tones than Mandarin. We just cannot hear them most of the times let alone pronouce the tones. It's two tones at most, the rest just blurs.
@jradetzky Yes, I wouldn't argue with that. The EU is drowning so we need to plough through the tones with a happy face before half of Europe is sold to the Chinese and there's no jobs left in English. All these conquests and colonies made the European languages popular, but now the power is shifting to the east. I wouldn't find Japanese or Korean equally useful, but I can be totally mistaken.
@rafalbielec Korean is nowhere as useful as Mandarin (I live in S Korea). It only gives you access to 50-70 million speakers, a rather homogeneous culture, and most Koreans study English like crazy anyway. Japanese is a bit more useful and interesting not only because of a larger population (180 million) but also because of their anime, manga, and other cultural exports. However, Mandarin is definitely more international (spoken in the PRC, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia) and culturally interesting
@rafalbielec I'm a Hong Konger. I know both Cantonese and Mandarin. Well, I can't deny your point, actually, but that's the characteristic of the language. Just like Swedish. It's also a tonal language.
haha I walked into a restaurant one day with a friend and asked her
"Ni3 jiao4 she2 me5" instead of "Ni3 yiao4 she2 me5". After this embarassing encounter I started to say "ni3 xiang3 yao4 she2 me5" remembering "xiang3 yao4" together rather than the difference between "jiao4 and "yiao4" felt easier.
When you start saying things such as "I ride a motorbike" incorrectly, things can sound even worse! lol
I'm talking japanese in highschool, but I mostly watch korean and Chinese dramas so I end up not understanding what they are saying!! Anyway THANK YOU!!!
This is so good! I have been learning japanese by myself the last 6 years, and korean since last month. However, I was reluctant about beginning to learn chinese because the pronunciation always seemed too difficult to me (my primary language is spanish); But it's not like that. Japanese kanji is far more difficult (訓読みや音読みのせいで), but not impossible. Thanks 小千!
feels nice that i can speak english and mandarin fluently :DD

@rafalbielec hahaha the world can well forget Europe. As a result of its crisis, it is becoming so irrelevant--their multiple languages included
