Actually this is a good way to practice, his tone can clearly hear his mistakes if it is clean or not. I shred with a fender and a crappy amp and practice these exercise. Once you had enough you plug it into your marshall with your jackson or esp or w/e then it sounds like magic.

shit in a bucket!!!! this guys amazing. i got the jazz, classical and rok bit sorted but i just cant play fast. i use a click and build slow but it just seems to seize up. any ideas?

@strabbs1: You're doin it right man, it just takes time. Sometimes months even. Just keep at it and you'll soon be burnin it up. You might want to start out with a lighter pick also, then work your way to the thicker ones. I used to have the same problem, but then started using a 0.5 for a while. It really helped. I use a 1.0 now with no problems.

You probably need to play with your picking hand differently. The guy in the video rests his hand on the bridge which is a good approach. I use that a lot even when it's not about speed.

If you want to tremelo pick like Eddie Van Halen you need to work on your wrist twitching and lining that up with your fretting. That's more of a one string technique.

If not you can always learn fretboard tapping which is the easy way to speed. You can also learn sweep picking although it sucks. lol
