The Hughes 500 come stock with the lower skids the higher on are just a extra it just a bit of ally tube that bolt on the the base of the old strut and it makes it long
I can't figure out why it should make such a difference, but I so much prefer these on the higher skids. My all-time favourite chopper, and I've been fortunate enough to fly one. Amazing bit of kit.
The difference that is most distingushable is the tail rotor or rather whats on top of it . The D model has a T Stabilator (or it is on top of the vetical )as to the C , it has a sideways V stabilator (or it protudes on a diagonal angle from the tail
@Sutho404 Yeah its is i work on these everyday mate seach it up hughes 369A thats it real model name when it came from the factory it also what they call them in the maintance manual and all part numbers for this heli start with 369A realy the flight manual for one first page hughes 369A series
@ganster205 wasn't that the model name of the first 500c's the ones that served in vietnam, then hughes upgraded them a bit and called it 369c. And the 500 is the civilian nickname for them
@Sutho404 your partly right the OH-6 is the Military one and hughes made the 369A not a 369c and after MD bought hughes they changed themm from 369 to 500 people got confused and just called them 500s and made it MD500C or a MD500d and so on and people just call them hughes 500s cause they dont know the full story but thats pretty much it its hughes 369a or a md500c lol same thing different name just cause md bought hughes
@Sutho404 haha bit to tight for everyone in the back of it you have no idea how much of a hassle it is to fill the transmission that takes about 5 litures of oil and you can only put it in syringe at a time or you will over fill it and it will go everywere in the cabin lol cant complain its better than working on bell 47's lol
I strongly disagree with that comment, I think the cameraman did a great job, just a big pitty about the wind on the mic spoiling an otherwise lovely sounding Turbine Engine.
I thought the zooming was just right, and he captured the pre-lift off balance on the skids too, great timing.
I would like to see another making of this, but on not such a windy day.
Thanks for taking the time to up-load it for us all to enjoy, and a special thanks for making the High Quality version available too.

much like a car engine except the air and fuel mixture is different... way more compressed air and a higher burning temp of the fuel...
the compresser starts up, compresses the air then fuel is introduced 0:33 is ignition

boy i hate hi speed vid cameras..doesnt blur the rotors :(

Pretty good pilot. If only the cameraman had half as much of a clue...
Vids like this are great, if you're zoomed on the cockpit right from hitting the button to lifting the collective. Then a wide for the departure.
