  • How does the quality of the Chiappa compare to S & W, I am thinking of getting a S & W 686?

    Thanks

  • @teton99 The S&W will be a much better gun overall. You may lose out on the cool futuristic looks and low bore axis design, but the 686 (I'd prefer an older 586, personally) will be more durable and reliable, and also it will give you more options for trigger jobs, spare parts, accessories, etc. Rhinos have had some major quality control issues and I only recommend them for the "cool" novelty factor now.

  • Dry firing a revolver is harmless and won't hurt a semi either. You guys are tools. I want this in .41 mag.

  • Is the trigger job something you have to send the gun back to Chiappa? or is it something you order and have a local smith install?

  • I want one to use in competitions but I need a carry-type holster for the 4" model. Does anyone make one?

  • hows the weapon doing now? im sure ypu put at least a few thousand rounds since this video

  • Thanks for the review! Your experience with their customer service appears to be the norm with Chiappa. I was interested in the 60DS in the nickel finish and contacted them 3 times via their website and never got a response. Based on my experience and your issues with their customer service group I think I will put my money elsewhere.

  • While it is one weird looking beast I believe that this design is the wave of the future in revolvers. Disappointed to hear about their Customer service. In this day and age with you tube, face book, twitter; Word spreads fast. They better get their act together pretty fast..otherwise it'll be Smith and Wesson on the side of the Rhino when they get bought on the auction block. Controlling muzzle flip on Large caliber guns has always been a problem even with ported barrels. Good luck with it.

  • ohhhhhhh sorry im the 1st person to dislike it

    accident

  • Imagine this gun with a laser built in right above the barrel!

  • I'd have a hammer and sickle engraved into the sides of the cylinder :)

  • did the scratch on the frame impede normal function at all?

  • Thank you for your time in making this review!!! I will never buy this gun considering the company's service!

  • Go to your favorite translation site and translate the Italian word "chiappa" into English. It means .... "buttocks" or "a s s" depending on the site.

FWIW, I was very interested in the concept of this gun's ergonomics, placing the barrel down towards the palm of the shooter. It is a perfect point/shoot/low recoil design. I am disappointed to hear about the quality issues, and I -very- much appreciate your honesty in your reviews.

  • Buy American!

Gun "LOOKS" cool but not my cup of tea. That and you are limited on the number of grip positions you can use. If it was a standard revolver with a similar looking frame would be cool. Enjoy your revolver. Hope all works out with the gun.

  • Awesome looking gun, their site says they are in Ohio, and have been around for 50 years, are they not a USA gun? And how does dry firing a gun hurt it? Considering the miniature explosions that happen when u shoot?............and 800$-900$ is alittle too much for that kind of CS

  • junk

  • Ooh...pretty.

  • It looks nice, great for someone wants a toy more than a gun.

  • that is one beautiful revolver

  • hey do you mind me asking how much you paid for this? i am really interested in getting one.

  • WOW what an attractive firearm !

  • @LifeSizePotato #2 as for the trigger pull take it to one of your locally trusted gun smiths and see if a trigger job polishing/springs will help crispen up the trigger pull... if its mushy possibly a stiffer spring in the first stage and diamond honing the contact point between the hammer and sear should eliminate the mush.... proper stage 1,2,3 factory trigger jobs are hindered by lawyers and pencil pushing saying lets error on the side of caution...

  • I'm afraid to even ask what that damn thing cost. And then you have to go through all that shit on top of paying that much .... this is why I avoid these exotic guns by these obscure companies. They're shit.

  • If it was the hammer mechanism that broke, why did they need to replace the frame?

  • @RedXlV There was also a scratch on the frame under the cylinder. I mentioned it in my letter to them, and I guess they couldn't polish it out.

  • So I haven't do any research on the longer barrel rhinos, but my question is, any idea why there is the color variation between the two slots, is it just a difference in the sheens or how the barrel was extended???

  • @just4yutube My guess is that the barrels are done in different batches from the frames. Then they can place whatever length barrel on any frame. The finishes probably don't match due to subtle differences in the plating mixtures between batches. Just my theory.

  • thank you for providing all the information. I was just about to order the 2" model and the 6" model and then I saw your videos and decided not to place my orders as I consider customer service of a company to be their real representative as I do not come in contact with them any other way. Perhaps they will change in the future, but until they do, I have no reason to add them to my collection right now.

    Thank you.

  • CZ-USA has way better service, in my experience. They kinda set the standard for me. I'm happy you were able to get your revolver back.

  • gun looks like with the rails the S&W R8, TRR8, and 325 thunder ranch

  • Too bad these don't have interchangeable barrel lengths.

  • On the subject of dry fire, I believe that this gun has a different hammer system from the classic revolver. Something a bit closer to that of an auto. Haven't had a peek at the inner moving parts of this one, but I have held and dry-fired it. I believe it does the weapon no harm.

  • dang you got hosed on fees. Buy American! ha!!! Sucks to hear you had these problems. I had high hopes for this gun, but it does not sound like its worth the price tag. Thanks for your honest videos on this gun.

  • nice gun. dont know why they dont show this finish on the site.

  • So, the triggers between the 40DS and 20DS are different?

  • @knieban I've had two 40s, one stock and one with the trigger kit, and both of them had mushier SA triggers than my 200DS, unfortunately. My 2" model was one of the first batch of Rhinos, I believe, so they may have changed something that made the triggers sloppier since then. I've heard others say that their 4", 5" and 6" guns also don't have the glass rod SA that I like so much on my 2".

  • @LifeSizePotato

Thanks for the reply! I've been wanting to get a 20DS for some time now, but haven't been able to find them locally(yet) and I've been reluctant to order it. When I had spoke with Chiappa regarding the latest revision, all they told me is they put in a heavier hammer(and possibly stronger hammer spring) to solve FTF/light primer strike issues. I guess I'll do some more digging; hopefully the next gun show has a Rhino 20DS!

  • @LifeSizePotato

ok to start with i may sound a bit assish bue excuse me!

sounds like a normal setup for claiming a replacement firearm in the united states... don't blame Chiappa for having to refill out registration blame your government!!!

  • That is such an awesome looking gun. I just wish they would make a full stainless version.

  • STOP DRY FIRING!!! YOU'LL RUIN IT MAN!!!

  • @Shamrocks4401 he probably has caps in it

  • @Shamrocks4401 snap caps. they cost about 10 bucks for 6. perfect for this guy

  • Six WEEKS?!
