  • also on a side note...i feel a bit let down with the review...like the channel dont get me wrong...but I dont think you do actual "reviews" well...the jokes are decent and all...but you dont look back on the history of things...you dont show alot if any game footage when reviewing systems etc. People sometimes attack the nerd for not giving enough actual info in his vids...but compared to CGR..hes a spec sheet...lol.

  • I liked (and had) the TG 16....it had great graphics...the controller was great coming from NES...had alot of arcade hits and were better ports than some of the other consoles. Its just a shame that it...1...didnt have a/v out...2...didnt have more than 1 controller port....and 3...didnt have game maker support like the other consoles. If it had those things...I think it would have been a huge thing then. Maybe we would still be playing games on cards now...who knows.lol

  • What about us in Denmark!

  • CGR has all these consoles but never review games on them

  • I know that the console came with R/F out capability by default and had only one controller port but, you failed to mention that there were peripherals available to change that. I know it was lame and selfish of NEC to force the consumer to buy extra stuff just to obtain what was considered to be normal quality but, still, it wasn't as though no upgrades existed for it at all.

  • I got a turboxpress handheld back in high school. Bout 1992-ish. I've bought a few games off ebay over the years. Aside a couple age-related glitches, it has always given good play. I think they're kinda rare now. Not selling it tho. :)

  • it bring tears to my eyes. I owned the tbg16 and all the other old school video game units and sold them all to those stupid cash for games shops in the late 90's. I wish I kept them, as a result i get teary eye.

  • @sam224423 feel sorry for you bro my dad had a nes, atari 2600, and sega genisis as a kid. he gave away the nes a long time back to people who were going to destroy it, he lost the atari. I grew up with the genisis until one day we didnt have the cords! CORDS! that really sucks.

  • @ColecoVectrex5200, That's why we have video game emulation to fall back on. :P

  • Who else thinks cartridge games loading times are faster than cd based?

  • I can't wait to play this on Christmas!

  • i actually got this and loved playing the 3 games i had.But while my back was turned my dumb ass cousin plugged the controller in the wrong way and BROKE IT! It was so serious i couldnt whoop his ass i was in shock! never played it since only had it 4 a month

  • Just ran into this. Really like this guy. See this is how you review games without ripping off avgn (irate gamer)

  • @crakawut He's been around since 1999. CGR is on a class of it's own, my friend.

  • That fact that this system died is very sad for me, considering I didn't have a SNES or Genesis till I was about 8 or 9. The TurboGrafx 16 was my system, and because of it my NES rarely got played. I am thinking about getting one again, but the pricing on some games is just.. Way too high. Any of the Bonk games can sell for 10 to 35 dollars, loose. Also, R-Type, which also came out on the SNES, (And the follow up, Super R-Type) are much cheaper on the SNES then the TurboGrafx 16.

    It's funny to

  • It's pronounced " Hugh Card."

  • How did I go from Ragathol to Air Zonk to this? The internet is amazing.

  • i would like to see classic game room to do a review of castlevania rondo of blood i would like to see him try to beat that

  • My old windows XP is a 4bit. :)

  • Do have the Cd attachment?

  • I wish I had kept my TG16, I had all the good games it had to offer like Bonk, Legendary axe etc, I would love to play some Bonk about now :D

  • Could never find a controller with more than 2 buttons so street Fighter wasn't all that fun on this system

  • i had all three of those game systems growing up all awesome!!!!!

  • Everything was spelled with an X back in the 90's. I wasn't having sex. I was having seX.

  • just bought one today!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @TeamRocketReviews, Agreed, I've picked up every worthy release on both 360 and PS3 and the ratio for memorable gems just does'nt compare to the games of yesterday which were by the dozen, Turbografx was loaded with gems and all you needed was a Turbo Booster for crisp graphics. :P

  • Kids need to know real games like on the Atari 2600, Colecovision, C64, ZX Spectrum, NES, Amiga, Atari ST, Master System, Genesis, Game Boy, and SNES, not this Assbox 360 and PussyStation 3 shit. Retro games are real games!

  • Hell no, Hu-Cards (Turbo chips) are the shit!

  • I have a turbografix-16 on my phone <3

  • i love this console and the cards with turbo keith courage <3. i love 4th gen

  • The TurboGrafx was such an underrated system with some wonderful Game gems.

  • Heh...insert Turbo pad into turbo vagina! XD

  • splatterhouse was on this

  • Mark, there's a free app on the ipod/iphone app store called "TurboGrafx-16 GameBox" that let's you play these games on your iphone/ipod touch, you should check it out!

  • I saw a TurboGfx half a year ago in a pawn shop for $8, it still worked too and had like 10 games, I wasn't interested in buying it but i played it a little while it was hooked up to a 12" tube.

  • @sookster54 Damn man You can buy it for re-sale quite good D.!

  • Affordeable? HA! Ebay is pretty much the only place to find one these days and the people there gouge you. I had to look for weeks before I found one I could afford. And if you want the bigger, better TurboDuo? Forget it! You won't find one of those for less than $200. The games aren't that affordable either. You can find tons of SNES and Genesis games for less than $5, but most Turbo games are $10 and up. It's a great system and I love it, but good grief is it expensive.

  • still got mine, slaughter house is fuc__g awesome

  • I wanna see it in a play,, I dont wanna see the plastic

  • I love how the Turborgrafx uses old PC connections for the Pad and Expansion.

  • what a goddamn gem you have. it's in really good condition, and your review was thorough as hell. fun console bro

  • wow...the 90's and 80's had all these weird consoles that never made it to the present...

  • lol "your human fingers" as opposed to?? Nice review ty :-)

  • 1:49 - 1:55 that just BLEW MY MIND

  • @SmoothCriminalAaron Yes. It's exactly why I use RF with my old consoles.

  • What stores can you go and buy cartridges for old consoles I'm starting to collect and don't always want to use eBay

  • there is a "turbo booster" that attaches to the back so that you could connect it to your tv using the rca cables.

  • would the proper term for a tg16 game be a CARDtrige? seems like it set the standards for what would be over 20yrs later a nintendo ds game, like 5x smaller

  • I was momentarily stunned when you said it was donated by John in Wisconsin, because my grandpa's name is John, and he lives in Wisconsin. I was no longer shocked after you said he was from Milwaukee, because my grandpa lives in Madison.

  • Yep, I had one. I got it for christmas 1991. What I remember most is it only worked for about 1 month.

  • I don't understand why people make such a big deal about bits. After all, Intellivision had a 16-bit CPU, but while the graphics were technically better than the 8-bit Atari 2600, the system could often be a bit sluggish and sometimes played games slower than on competing systems. On an unrelated note: The ZX Spectrum, Colecovision and the Sega Master System all used the same 8-bit CPU. Think about that.

  • we want new cartridge based console !

  • @64jamesbond It'd be nice, but cartridges are far too expensive to make. Discs are much better. If anything, companies could create flash card based games (such as the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Vita use) and house them in cartridges.

Flash memory is pathetically cheap, but a disc is even cheaper. I think I can handle a little load time. I just wish you could have the option to install games on ANY system. MS had the right idea with the 360. Come on Sony and Nintendo. Get on the ball!

  • @Atlink yeah but theres no load time in cartridges

  • @64jamesbond 3DS ? lol nintendo DS

  • @64jamesbond would be nice cuz they last practically forever!

  • @64jamesbond would be possible, flashdrives schould be fast enough to play from but i guess games would cous more then 100€ because the cartridges are the same hightech as the console itself ^^

  • @64jamesbond CDs are cheaper to produce than cartridges.

  • truedat, we also need to get the bits back =)

  • @64jamesbond NO LOAD TIMES NO SCRATCHED DISCS ITS 100% BETTER

  • @64jamesbond How about games in pen drives

  • @GabrielFW1 OR SD cards... (Like the Nintendo DS series actually... Those are proprietary derivatives of SD cards...)

  • @64jamesbond games on SD cards, maybe? Since SDHC have huge storage capacities (up to 32GB)

  • @mruppel2 I MADE THIS COMMENT 6 MONTHS AGO STOP RESPONDING TO IT

  • @mruppel2 and yeah that would be cool

  • @64jamesbond doesn't the ds count??

  • @64jamesbond Vita.

  • @64jamesbond Sure.... if you want games to be a hundred times smaller. with less content....

  • @Lostprophetzzz

cartridges could easily hold 32+gigs per cartrige

360 games are limited to 9 gigs per disk

  • @firesoul453 what the hell kind of cartridge are you on about?

there is NO cartridge in existence which holds even a TENTH of that!

  • Do have the Turbo Booster by NEC, doesn't have a S-video out just composite video with stereo audio jack out.

  • you can play the TG16 with RCA audio/video cables by using a Turbo Booster add-on that goes on the back on the expansion port and i THINK it also has S-Video with it.

  • The Turbografx-16 featured some of the best shoot-em-ups and rpg action ever on any home console. All hail the mighty turbografx-16!

  • The design doesn't feel that much attractive especially the game cartdriges.

  • Dude you messed up,its rare and they are very expensive dude. And so are the Games.

  • @1STAPPEARANCEHULKED You grammar is messed up.

They are NOT expensive. Look on Ebay for proof.

  • "And it turns red letting you know that it is angry." -Mark

  • I got one for $20, my 5 years old cousin loves to play Keith Courage with me.

The Coax thing was a bitch to set up since I'm used to using AV.

Wait? if you only have one Coax thing, is it possible to hook another game system in because the Turbo coax has that little box for a extra thing? couldn't you hook up infitite consoles through one coax screw?

  • @SmoothCriminalAaron Yeah, pretty much

  • man i miss my turbografx :'(

  • I brought 3 of these from a thrift store brand new in the box for $8.00 each in 1994!! I was only 10 & knew nothing about them, I just wanted it for my collection to go with my NES, SNES & Sega

  • i remember playing this shyt lol... cant remember the name of the game but it was a baby that hit shyt with its head lol

  • @TheDemonMadeMe That's Bonk's Adventure, lol

  • pc engine even less

  • Sorry 24-bit... Shwoops...

  • So it's like 12-bit? It's like the Neo Geo AES and how it was 26-bit... WTF?

  • It may have lost out to the SNES and Genesis in North America, but it kicked the crap out of the Genesis in Japan...

  • i have two choices, n64 or turbografx 16... witch one should i buy?

  • @HerrGubba BOTH!!

  • @HerrGubba 64! sorry but 64 is THE BEST game console EVER!

  • @BNRussell1 SNES is alot better then 64.

  • wait... didnt the original street fighter release for and only for the turbo grafx? how can it be that it is not memorable?!?

  • @lolfreak21196 because it sucked major ass

and it was only on the turbografx 16 cd AND it was called fighting street

  • @RLmike1234 The games are in CD cases for uniformity. There was a CD add on for the TG16 and, obviously, those hames came in CD cases as well.

  • is this baby region free?

  • @GodzillaXAbudAwwal maby between europe and the us but the japanese system looks very differnt so i doubt that will work

  • @SOUTHWESTENZ damn it

  • @GodzillaXAbudAwwal i might be wrong, i know nothing about the tg16 so do some research. you might be able to get a 3rd party system that plays all region games

  • There is a thing that looks like the dust cover that you can plug into the expansion port to get AV out.

  • i still got one of these had it since i was a kid. do you think it could be worth money say another 10 years? i also heard eletronics do not gain value with age.

  • @warner4455 oh yes they do.i saw a magnavox oddysey on ebay at almost 700 bucks

  • What is he talking about. This is the best system to collect games for for the very reason that the hu's are hard to find. How much better do you feel when you find a box full of rare TG16 games then snes or gen. Love Classic Game Room!

  • I love this system! Just bought Neutopia the other day! Can't wait to play that one!

  • bomber man 93 von tbg16 kicks so much ass

  • Cool review, Mark and co. Will you review anymore TG-16 games soon, like Keith Courage in Alpha Zones, The Legendary Axe, or the TG-16 version of R-Type? It would be great if you did so :)

  • jezuz khriste you are boring as shit

  • my friend chris fortino had this and hes an asshole

  • As for the "bitness" (is that even a word?), the fact is that it doesn't matter. TG-16 was of the same gen as Genesis and SNES. It had dual 16-bit video processors (which handled the graphics). That's what matters when discussing graphics. Besides which, the Intellivision had a 16-bit CPU and graphics that looked worse than NES. That's how you know bringing up the bit rate of CPUs don't matter as much as GPUs on game consoles.

  • must watch blazing lazer review.....lol

  • I don't know why people were so obsessed over the number of bits. The primary thing 16-bits provided you with in that era was an increased color palette - which the TG-16 accomplished with its GPU. The CPU itself was 8-bit, but it was a rather fast 8-bit processor, and the games generally weren't hindered by it. Bits /= speed. For instance, most games on the N64 actually ran almost all of their instructions in 32-bit, because 64-bit was actually slower for most purposes at that time.

  • Why are the games in CD cases?

  • review more games on it.

  • TurboGrafx-16 games are coming to PSN! :-)

  • Bloody Wolf, Blazing Lazers, Bonk's Adventure 1-3, Soldier Blade, New Adventure Island, Legendary Axe I & II, Air Zonk, Magical Chase, Legend of Hero Tonma, Alien Crush, Devil's Crush, Neutopia I & II, Vigilante, Splatterhouse, Ninja Spirit, Parasol Stars (Bubble Bobble III), Dead Moon, Super Star Soldier, Lords of Thunder (CD), Ordyne, Rockman, Castlevania Dracula X Rondo of Blood (PC Engine Super CD) etc, etc, etc THE TURBO/ PC ENGINE IS A MUST!

  • spelled with FX.

  • If I win the super bowl, fuck Disney World, I wanna go to your house

  • MARK -

the uk turbografx release console do have the AV out ;)

  • You know what else is an emerging technology ?

    ... The Turbo GrafX 16 !!

    lol

  • Both Bomberman and Bombman'93 can use up to 5 players.WOW

  • turbo grafx 16 is not cheep its 200 hundred dollars near where i live but a super nintendo is 50 and a sega genesis 30 its wierd

  • @threalcurtisfroude I've seen Turbo Grafx 16 on Amazon for as low as $50.

No CD add-on or Turbo Duo though...

  • Lol I remember going to schiil trying to explain to the other kids what a turbo graphx was, cause they all had sega genesis's and super nintendo's :P

  • Splatter house was the only reason to own this.

  • Srry, I ment "is"

  • I read that there i only 94 game 4 the TurboGrafx-16

  • how many game systems do you even have 0_o

  • @TheSprite1998 more than it meets the eye

  • The reviewer sounds like he's developmentally challenged. I stopped at 1:50.

  • I was thinking about getting a Turbografx 16 admittedly mostly to play Splatterhouse. I don't know much about the system so I was wondering are there any other REALLY good games on the system that I should get to make the purchase a little more worth it? Maybe a good RPG or something since I seem to suck at spaceship shooters. Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

  • @shroyerdave im only 12 but u should get a sega dreamcast they are kiss-ass

  • If you want AV out on a TG-16 without modding or breaking the bank with the CD addon, there exists a an AV adapter that plugs into the expansion port which gives you A/V. Sadly if you end up getting the CD addon, the AV adapter collects dust.

  • It's cool that more and more people are becoming interested in this system (or at least know about it) thanks to Virtual Console.

  • TurboGrafx-16 is one of my all time favorite consoles as well as the Sega Dreamcast. The TG16 contained an 8-bit CPU and a dual 16-bit GPU setup. Out of a palette of 512 colors it supported 482 colors on screen at one time (241 sprites, 241 backgrounds)! For audio, the TG16 utilizes as 6 PSG audio channels programmable sound chip. The TG16 (PC-Engine) reigned in Japan with new game releases until 1999.

  • @Chaniyth those specs would impress me for da time if I wasnt a pc gamer are graphics always shit on every thing else =D

  • @Chaniyth its weird how consoles seem to last several years longer in japan

  • @SOUTHWESTENZ

It's just cultural differences I guess. The Sega Dreamcast is an example, it died in the USA around 2001 but in Japan lasted until 2006. Even during 2010 and the Dreamcasts MIL-CD functionality new independent titles were released. The Dreamcast has cult-classic status around the globe.

  • @Chaniyth yup dreamcast is probs the best example, but theres loads, infact almost every console made in japan lasts much longer, i very much approve of this, people are moving on to the next console when the current hasn't even reached its full potential, then japan gets some awesome exclusives!!

  • @SOUTHWESTENZ Actually the original Xbox was discontunued earlier in Japan.

  • @Chaniyth Plus its Black!

  • @Chaniyth Yeah, the hardware is good, but guess what: that means jack when the software mostly sucks.

  • awesome

  • This was the shT! I had this console and had a blast playin the games. lol i had the keith courage game. i would love to get this back. Such a classic.

  • I heard that this wasn't a true 16 bit console.

    True?

  • @modewr

    It's a hybrid 8 and 16 bit console. It has an 8-bit CPU but a 16-bit GPU.

  • @BrianAV1611 Well, it's more 16-bit than the Jaguar is 64-bit, which had a 32-bit GPU and CPU

  • @RLmike1234

Not entirely accurate on the part about the Jaguar. Jag's "GPU" is just one of the processors housed on the TOM chip, which also contains the 64-bit Blitter and 64-bit Object Processor. The 68K processor everyone thinks is the CPU is actually a "16/32" processor (like the Genesis and NEO GEO), but it's not the actual CPU; open up a Jag, and you'll see the TOM chip labeled as the CPU. The 68k could actually be bypassed, but Atari's dev kit was ass so devs never did it.

  • @spiffyvictory Why did I even bring that thing up? It sucks shit from a rabid monkey's dick

  • I subscribe.

  • LOL you really enjoy your videos. That's awesome. Nice to see somebody have fun with games!

  • Regarding the Audio and Video RCAs LINEOUT well there where two adaptors to be used with the backside port called Turbo Booster and Turbo Booster Plus so it is not accurate to say unfortunate no lineout AVs. In fact knowing the pinout it is possible to get those outputs directly from the port by solding the correct pins. So capability was inside but you needed to pay more. The Turbo Booster allow to save games and by buying the CD ROM adapter the RCAs outputs where included.

  • i had this console it kicked ass would love to find one today

  • i love the music when the "this is a journalistic review of.." card comes up : )

  • Uploaded on my birthday... Thanks, Mark :D

  • yup, the Turbo Booster. It's actually more rare than the system itself.

  • There was an accessory that attached to the back port that included composite video and audio jacks.

  • Loved the comment about going outside on your laptop to shop ebay!

  • Genesis was already out here. Captivated too big a portion of the market. By the time it got off the ground most families had either a nintendo or a Genesis or both.

  • yes there,s a stereo a/v module for the turbo grafx console, and there,s a cd rom addon for it.

now those game card boxes really confuses me becouse they look like cd cases.

  • Was this more advanced than the Genesis/SNES?

  • @modewr no it wasn't a true 16 bit machine even though it did have a really spiffy disk drive.

  • @Luigi84289 : It still has superior colors to SNES/Genesis... Genesis can output 64 colors at a time , SNES 128 colors at a time , and the TurboGrafx-16 can output 512 i think.

  • @100PurpleCoins Or bits, for that matter. The Turbo-Grafx 16 has both!

  • i never knew this existed back in the day

knew about neo geo but not this

im goin to search if u reviewed the atari jaguar

    oh yea and panasonic 3do

  • i never knew this existed back in the day

knew about neo geo but not this

im goin to search if u reviewed the atari jaguar

  • When I was a kId, there was a high school guy who got a Turbo Grafx 16, and many more different consoles.

I remember him playing it one day and I was hanging out with him, it was a great console. It's just too bad my parents never got me one. The Neo Geo was also a great console too. It's just too bad no company out there aren't makeing knock offs of Neo Geo and Trubografx16 and 3DO.

  • @WarshipAngelus

I know it!! Was'nt that stuff just the coolest. Back then it just seemed a little edgier and more arcadey than what was out there. Shame it never caught on in America.

  • thumb up for 33,999 views

  • Turbo was a little head of it's time in terms of arcade play and game graphics , from what I remember. I thought the little Star Trek cards chips instead of the huge cartridges were just the coolest thing back in the day. Yeah it did stink that you had too buy a seperate thing too give you 2 or 3 players. But , I still really loved mine. Fun review.

  • @jayce79

The TurboTap has 5 controller ports for games like Bomberman and Moto Roader.

  • @Soukyugurentai

Oh yeah. I forgot exactly how many players but it was definitley multiple. But it was still slightly a shame that you could'nt even play two players on it without a seperate thing. But you know what , I still loved the heck out of it. Such a Fun classic system.

  • Lol "The Tower of TurboGrafx"

  • Oh man i love this Show! btw. im from germany so i dont know: Is this format/this show produced for television back in the day? Some episodes (not this one) Looked like a old fashioned lil. gaming TV show. :)

  • @mayhemtv nah Mark and I believe the other guy's name is Dave maybe..they were pretty much the first Retro Game Review Show on youtube

  • i have never seen one of these in real life, too bad.

  • I think what killed the TB-16 was one port and no stereo sound without optional assessories. I had both a 16 and a Turbo Duo, the Duo was much better with some awesome games (some games as much as $1000 on Ebay..I wish I knew that before I got rid of it) but came out too late, Playstation 1 had already started coming out.
