Actually, ViralVideoRater, not all Aussies' tails are docked. Like people have been saying, they dock the tails between 4-7 days of age (I believe), for SAFETY. So, they are "worked correctly". Not all Aussies have to have their tail docked.
Amazing! I myself own a 3 year old blue merle australian shepherd(with a tail ;) ) called Magic. He is the most fantastic thing that have ever happened to me <3
I love aussie tails! when they have them atleast, i think it's a shame breeders will bob a tail if it isn't naturally done
Your aussie is incredible! I want to do some agility with my aussie but right now i can't afford the equipment. We just have some jeri-rigged stuff that we play with every now and then she loves it
@screwusernames050 As breeders, we dock the tail for two main reasons. For one thing, that's a breed standard with the ASCA, to whose standards we adhere to religiously. Secondly, it is done for the dog's own safety. When working cattle, it is entirely too easy for a tail to get shut in a gate and ripped off (which happens to tailed stockdogs like Borders quite often) or stepped on by livestock, which leads to the dog getting trampled. We aren't like Doberman breeders...it's not just for looks.
that is not an aussie though its tail isnt docked a purbread aussie has a stubbed tail because it is safer for them when herding so that is how they were bred though i might be wrong
@Tinkerthing5 You are wrong, Aussies can be born with tails of all lengths, full, half, 3/4, or bobbed. I think the owner knows what breed her own dog is.
@TheViralVideoRater Actually, most Australians are born with full tails which are then docked between 3 and 7 days of age. This is done for safety purposes (tails get shut in gates, stepped on by cattle, etc.) At our kennel, about half of our dogs are born with full tails. It is a very slim-built dog for an Aussie, so it could easily be mistaken for a BC, especially with the tail. But a full tail does not mean it's an "incorrectly worked Aussie". That's a very naive statement.
I'm getting my own Red Merle this summer from a breeder I know. I'm going to start in agility competitions like these. My aunt got me hooked, she has a Blue Merle, Summit, and a Black Tri, Mesa. They are amazing. I love to watch and help out, good I'm starting this now while I'm in High School :)
3-7, sorry for the mess-up..

@samanthabois Aussies dont have tails. So its either a border collie or not a correctly worked aussie.

@verginas Australian Shepherds dont always have their tail docked. I think they would know their dogs breeding better then you would.
