Have the right to enjoy the company of a ferret. The last instance that the permit but under safety standards such as sterilization, for example in Chile (where I live), SAG (Agricultural and Livestock Service), allowed the entry of these species under strict rules for tenure as pets (must be sold sterile) and business (complete reproductive organs) go through strict testing and meet stringent requirements to be authorized. I am a student of Veterinary
Yes It is a crime but there are two types of crime. I'll admit you are lesser of the two evils but you are still breaking the law and that's why I think the DFG is not submitting to your petition. Don't get me wrong, I want Ferrets to be legalize here in Cali, but It's going to take a very long time to actually make it happen and I know that Pat has been giving it his all but there is a lot more work to be done. Gob bless you guys and I am on your side.
I daughter-in-law was first person in Ca arrested, strip searched for having a ferret. She was keeping it for me, got into her neighbors house, they didn't know what it was, called the cops. They didn't have a code # to put on the arrest papers. I loved Mr. Nibbles even though it's been about 5 years since it happened. He didn't bite as they are accused to do. He would give kisses and play hide and seek and dance with you. This gov was suppose to legalise them. signed Country
@fire2box, actually in California you can get a detrimental species license if you work with animals, where you can only keep a certain number of ferrets. Animal labs can also get ferrets. That is why this law is stupid - ferrets can be used in petting zoos and educational programs where children pet them, yet people can't own them. Ferrets are also kept as SF Zoo - where misinformation used to be spread, not sure anymore on that. It's not right and this needs to change SOON.
I wanted to attend this, but I couldn't get my reservation in in time and other things came up. My support was with you though! I am currently writing a research paper on the legalization of ferrets :)
my baby was in an accident and died this year....i loved her with all my heart and miss her more then any other animal ive owned...im 14 and know my mom was so attached she wont let me get another one we r all very hurt by what happend...when nthey r legalized i plan to try and convince my mom to let me own another
@fire2box Pot can't be legalized even if everyone voted yes, simply because it is still federally illegal and would be turned over immediately- as California doesn't hold the rights that Texas does in that respect.
However, pot is MORE legal currently than ferrets are. You can get a "medical" pass for pot, you can't get any kind of waiver for a ferret.
-Note though, this isn't a debate about pot, it was merely an observation.-
@Pistinbully Really, because I never said These animals were outlawed bu the federal government... Hell, I've never heard of anyone say they have been.
As for LeSquid, I was of course talking about pot being legal on state grounds. I know the federal government still has a ban on pot. Though, if it's passed I heard the federal government might not waste it's time/money on fighting a state issue. They rarely cracked down on the medical pot and some of it's users seriously don't need it.
This is my favorite argument ever. "Ferrets bring people happiness. Life is short, go for all the happiness you can" Such happy innocent creatures. Perfect for an apartment or a farm. Simple, easy pet who makes people smile on the outside and on the inside. Why deprive Californians the right to smile with love in their own homes?
Really is no reason to keep this law on the books. I remember a decade or so ago there was a news article that said the ferret issue was one of "the laughed at movements in the state senate - ridiculed along with legalizing marijuana and other untenable legislation."
The law is so ridiculous.California has the most ferrets out of any other state. On top of that all the major pet store chains sell ferret supplies.Thats something to think about.
I wish the government would just accept that ferrets aren't dangerous... It makes taking care of my fuzzies really difficult. Everytime I go to the vet I have to sign a paper that states my animal is illegal and will be turned in if they nip somebody. And thats really scary.
Most ferrets obtained in North America are spayed or neutered and descented at a very young age before being sold i like to have one that is not....babes are so cute...
verything I’ve learned about keeping these gorgeous little ratbags, loving every minute along the way. Plus a whole boatload of other stuff about ferrets and other mustelids. They typically have brown, black, white, but the mixes ones are my babes.
• Keep your ferret warm, comfortable and caged separately from any other ferrets. If your ferret has a contagious virus, any other ferrets you own could catch it as well. Wash all communal toys and bedding to avoid spreading the virus. You should always have an extra cage available in case separation is needed. Ferrets who are recovering from surgery should also be caged separately to avoid ripping or snagging the stitches during play. Most ferrets want quiet ti.......
The ferret is a domesticated mammal of the type Mustela putorius furo. Ferrets are sexually dimorphic predators with males being substantially larger than females. They typically have brown, black, white, or mixed fur, have an average length of 20 inches (51 cm) including a 5 inch (13 cm) tail, weigh about 1.5–4 pounds (0.7–2 kg), and have a natural lifespan of 7 to 10 years.[1]
I'm a MAN and am owned by four ferrets! I have had ferrets for about 8 years. Legalize ferrets in California, I'm from Michigan and we legalized ferrets about 11 years ago!
@clleiton31 I don't have any right now. I had one as a teen living in Arkansas. But when I moved to California I had to find a new home for my ferret.

@LeSquid Pot hasn't been legalized yet, however if it is.. it's going to be ironic and just plain stupid.
