Mike Seeger was the most important teacher of old time American folk music that ever has been. Some may say Lomax but Mike operated with heart and soul and there was no better person and he just taugh us all without academic pretensions. Damn I miss him. Hope you're kicking up your feet Mike, don't let anybody say RIP.
@johnorford1931 Old black folks often can be remarkably tight-lipped about themselves. What you say could still be true, but isn't at all necessarily the reason it took them years to learn she was a player--and a REAL player, at that.
I love this song. Thanks for the upload. I'm glad I was able to here this song when ever I want and I'm happy to be able to hear these old classics instead of so much of the same repitions my usual songs. Not that I hate metal and and alternative/grunge, but you really can't listen to them like you can with oldies or olk songs like this. At least I think this is a folk song!
this song makes me sleepy

Interesting that the Seegers took five years to find out that Elizabeth Cotten had once played the guitar - they couldn't have talked much to her.

What a shame that no one in the audience sang the song with him, I would have. Those folks missed out on a superb opportunity. RIP Mike
