  • @ antdigger Hard for him to rip off April Wine when he and Bernie Taupin wrote and recorded it in 1970 before April Wine recorded it in 1971

  • This guy ripped off April Wine.

  • Whose came first? April Wine or Elton John?

  • @TheMeanSgtPlaysPiano Elton, April Wine covered it

  • Canada's April Wine had the best version of this song. John's doesn't come close.

  • @TheCanadianmade1

Dude, I'm Canadian but I think Elton's version is better.

  • really really great - thanks for posting this

  • Never heard this version before, it is Great! I have the original studio version on a UK import album titled "Lady Samantha" which I bought in a TSS record shop (in Elmont, NY) in the 80's. I also enjoy the 11.17.70 version, but this is the best, I think. You can tell that this is from 1974...I hear the influence of bells like you hear in "Lucy in theSky", also from 1974. Elton, your voice in the early 70's was at its prime. Wish we had it back.

  • please somebody find guitar tabs for intro

  • Best version I've ever heard, thanks for uploading!

  • NICEEE thank you for uploading

  • Wicket song. The live version is raw and has power, this version has more variation, more to listen to. April Wine did a commendable, job but there is no way April Wine or very many other bands for that matter, can come out on top compared with Elton in his prime (IMHO).

  • I have a mint copy of this double set on vinyl.... I need not say more. Its nothing short of awesome. Ata time when Elton went through a brief retirement.... Most thought it was over. Great compilation.

  • Just bought Here and There yesterday! Totally awesome. The secon disc is in NY and has the three tracks he and John Lennon done in 74, so great. This album has great live version of Satruday Night's Alright For Fighting and The Bitch Is Back....so worth it.

  • Holy. Moses. I have been redeemed !!!!

  • Does anybody know who covered Elton John's ballad, "I've Been Loving You" in the early 70s? I heard a beautiful version of it in Montreal as a young child, and am haunted by the wish to find it and hear it again.

  • it's better on 11-17-70--more "raw"--the "here and there' album was orig, 1 ALBUM!--didn't have Lennon on it--the cd is double and has LOADS more on it than the album-- also--the album 11-17 -70 doesn't have "Amoreena" like the cd has--also--this is not on "here and there"

  • Originally, written by Bernie Taupin and sung by Elton John but much more popularized by April Wine who seem to be only known among Canadians, dang it all.

  • this is april wine song

  • Is this out on CD in any form? If so, tell me where! I love 11.17.70, but this kills it.

  • @nieckolai

yes in the HERE AND THERE Album, released in 1976... lovely live double cd!

  • @EJinthe70s It is also out on Elton John (first American album) remastered as an extra, Rare Masters a two CD set, and To Be Continued a 4 CD box set.

  • Great early Elton John tune. Tell me, am I the only one who remembers this song

being performed by a group called "Toefat" ?

  • April Wines version still has me vote

  • @glamourboy89 That whiny Canadian band? Never as good as Elton John.

  • @Hemingway271 What makes them whiny? I love both versions of it, don't trash a great Canadian band.

  • @Hemingway271 I would rather listen to April Wine then Elton John. But Elton John is a legend and doesnt even compare to the Canadian band

  • @rentashoo

Hey buddy. I am from Montreal, and am extremely proud of most things Canadian and Montreal-based, but c'mon. Elton & Bernie are on a par with Lennon & McCartney in terms of quality and volume of genius output over the years. April Wine is nowhere near their level, no matter how much I love them.

  • @glamourboy89 Totally agree!

  • the best ever vesion of this tune ever what a gig wish i was there one of the best live tunes ive ever heard genious

  • Another killer post EJ!! I have the extended version of this CD in which they finally included this version. Smokin' hot!!! Just brilliant!!! Hot band on the top of their game, taking an obscure track and putting the pedal to the metal the way the song was meant to be played. The 11-17-70 version has that raw feel that made the trio such a buzzworthy concert event at the time, and the original studio version with Caleb on guitar (Friends soundtrack?) was also tight, but this is my favorite.

  • nice picture

    great performance

  • This song was a massive radio hit in Canada in '72, as covered hardrock-style by our own April Wine. Being that in other countries (including England) the song is just an obscure Elton b-side, it's funny that "Bad Side" is very well known among all Canadians of a certain age.

You can hear "our" version on YouTube if you search it out.

  • Nigel just shines on this track

  • Dig this sound of the boys in '74, Davey's guitar, Ray & Nigel percussion, and of course Dee omnipresent. Firing on all cylinders, tight~

  • Got to see him at Carnegie Hall during their first U.S. tour. He, Nigel, and Dee on stage. It sounded like 100 musicians. Truly remarkable.

  • Great. Still love 11/17/70 version the best.

  • kudos

  • I agree TOTALLY! I wish he would slip this in every now and then-I think it'd go over well!

  • @Entertainmentwriter , the best version, i agree, it was a radio city music broadcast, that album was awesome!

  • 11/17/70 was actually recorded at A & R studios in NYC, and the concert was broadcast live on a rock radio station. Three musicians making incredible music that is timeless. Hard to imagine that was over 40 years ago! Makes me feel too old!!!!

  • My God... this is monsterously good!!!! Can't get enough!

    OOOOOOOOOOOOH! 6:33

  • yeah!! buy Here and There (it's a live album) VERY NICE!! all songs are like this and quality is very good

  • Jeez.. I thought Here and There was from 1976! I had that one years ago! Nothing like this on it! Gotta get out more!

  • Here and There is a live album edited in 1976 but contains 2 concerts from 1974, in London (here) and New york (there) . Both great concerts, this track was taken in London; other nice versions are Skyline Pigeon, Love Song... THe concert in NY instead is famous because John Lennon played together with the EJ band. :D

  • Absolutely great!!! Thank you so much for posting this!!!

  • An extraordinary version of a song that was once very popular but is now seldom heard. Genius!

  • This version reminds me of Dear Prudence.

  • Astonishing version... much more passion and drama than the studio version. Thanks for posting

  • I always loved this song. Though I have the studio version on one of his old box sets, I always wondered why they didn't inlude it on one of his albums.

  • Absolute best performance of this song!

  • Best performance of this song...Thaks for posting it!

  • Great performance! Thanks!!
