  • Scratchy.

  • I'm the same as everyone else writing below not heard this in years ..nice posting my friend

  • Hey BiggyGasser - so did I.............. fun times.... we got up to double figures before we got bodily thrown out of the pub... happy days

  • Now that I think about it, this reminds me of John Lennon's Stand By Me... guess which came first?

  • Not to be pretentious but only the opening of this song sounds 1972. Then it sounds more 60's, then at about 1:05 very 50's, and then a 1965 Beatles-ish part?

And 2:15 sounds like where the title might be.

But honestly what is a numberer?

  • @clarkbell It's not pretentious to talk about music. Yeah, I'd go along with most of that. As for the title, bloody hell, I met Andy Mackay once, and I met Brian Eno once, and I forgot to ask!

  • aaaaargh!!!! the treble is slicing my brain into little pieces!!!!

  • Anyone else find -with those cascading synth lines and all- that this sounds like a prototype for Bowie's "Speed of Life"?

  • I hadn't thought about that, but now you mention it: yeah. The sax sounds a bit proto- V2 Schneider-y, too.

  • @narozzz i think bowie was definitely influenced by roxy music, and by bryan ferry's singing style. i think it's no surprise that he connected and collaborated with former roxy music member, brian eno. i always thought of roxy music as the 50's meets a futuristic space age, where as bowie is more of just the futuristic space age thing (speaking of his mid to late seventies stuff). i can definitely hear speed of life in this one

  • @bluestate69 - I guess youre right, but to me Roxy is it's own decade. It creates the sense of a time that doesn't exist which, therefore, might as well be right now, whenever that is.

  • @narozzz Definitely. Also I think Gary Numan nicked it for 'We Are So Fragile.'

  • reminds me of when i was much younger. got kicked out of our local for putting it on 6 or 7 times a night on the juke box. happy days.

  • Hehheh. For me that was youth club days, a bizarre melange of ping-pong, Silver Machine, Donny Osmond, and The Numberer.

  • @xwsftassell thats so funny!!! couldv been my youth club-maybe a dash of paper lace & angel face by the glitter band...

  • Thank you, first time re heard in about 25 years Wonderful sax and of course moog

  • Crikey, It's a long time since i heard this tune!! Back in 70's!!! I also remember having a solo album by Andy Mackay called " In search of Eddies Riff" which was excellent!! I was fortunate to have seen Roxy perform at the "Rainbow" in 75..

    Fantastic!!

  • Hear those diamonds scream!Marvelous! It's total anarchy! Thanks so much for the post.

  • 1972,i think....

  • Go Andy!

  • This is available on The Thrill Of It All box set. I can't find that disc so haven't heard it in some time. Think it sounds more treble-y here, but that's fine. Viva vinyl!

  • Or as Bry put it:

"Diamonds may be your best friend."

  • What a "B" side should B... not available anywhere else, and as good as this!

  • Génial ! Merci, je ne connaissais pas ce titre !
