limelight707 DeYoung was not just a great singer he was the architect of most of their big hits he was a great songwriter who wrote most of Styx's best hits

Come Sail Away , Lady. The Best of Times, Babe Rockin the Paradise etc. those are their best songs and youre wrong. Gowan cant begin to touch DeYoung vocally or as a writer

This is like the situation with Journey and Boston who have singers that cant sing the songs with the conviction Foreigner's singer sounds just like Gramm though

Saw them a couple days ago for my 2nd time. They are awesome! . I like that they do this song because when your at the live show you definately want them to play this song. They rock it and Gowan does a great job. We can listen to this song with Deyoung anyway anytime. So I hope they keep playing this song which they will cause we love it. And I can't wait to see them again.

i totally agree. i understand getting a new singer and everything, but i think when you do that, you should record new songs and play none of the songs the past front man sang. he even changes it up! he shouldnt have the right to do it... its too great of a song to change.

I completely agree with you Brandon. I personally think Gowan is a great addon to the band. Just that he wasn't made to sing this song. Styx still got lots of talent left in them. They should start making new songs with Gowan.

@brandondail64 The reason they change it up is so people see another side of the song. If he sang it exactly like Dennis he would get alot more flack. ie. he isn't as good as......he shouldn't sing his songs...blah. Most of the audiance would be upset if they didn't do their classics. I bet he would rather do the new stuff he did rather than Dennis' stuff. Just be glad they are still doing it.

I first heard them back when they had there Return To Paradise Tour in 96... and I never saw them with Dennis live in person... But when Larry came it was like a shot of life back into the band... DDY was indeed a primadonna that couldnt be bothered with fans, The "New" styx stomps the hell out of ANY show that DDY was EVER a part of. Apparently the old geezers that think DDY was ever more than todays Axl rose, need a reality check. Thanks for being one of the few people whose eyes arent clouded by nostalgia.

Gowan's a talented musician. I think "A Criminal Mind" is a bloody masterpiece. Do I think he belongs in Styx as DDY's replacement? No, I don't think Styx is Styx without DDY to begin with.

Is he the next best thing to DeYoung? Yes, so if they REALLY needed somebody, they made the right choice.
