I built a car made to look like a tuning car from scratch. Petrol powered. Built everything myself down to the petrol tank.
First time trying it just when id finished it, started it up, drove it to the end of the road and saw smoke coming from it, ran down to it and by the time i got to it the whole thing was in flames. Ive given up now. Took me 3 months and lasted 3 seconds.
Nah there is no way you can put a clutch onto your engine without some major fabrication. And yes, 3kg is a bit too heavy. Just look on ebay and you will find one for cheap. You need to make sure you get a good quality one though.
A 25cc engine will be fine. Just make sure you keep it as lightweight as possible, and keep the weight close to the ground. You will also need some hobby grade rc electronics (can be bought off ebay pretty cheap).
I just used the throttle servo from another rc car, which pulls a cable that opens and closes the throttle on the engine. My other video, 'Walkthrough of Homemade RC car' shows how this was done.
Thanks Geoff. Yes I made the entire thing from scratch. The steering was actually the easiest part, since there is no suspension it made things alot easier. I will be making another video of the whole car as soon as it is finished.
BTW do you know what is going on with tzi's? I have many pics to post :)
Yeah i dunno whats going on. Im hoping he is removing those damn pop ups. Its anoying that the forum is so "dead" because there are heaps of videos and people who make stuff but the site is so hard to find. I always tell them about tzi if the comment.

Looks pretty sweet. Did you build the steering aswell? If you did that must have been hard.
You should make a walk around to show us the details of how it was constructed.
