Absolutely agreed! I usually don't even bother using them. They're barely more powerful than pistol bullets, so there's no point. You'd think a Saiga loaded with slugs would be awesome, but it's not. The only way to put someone down with one shot is a headshot. Center-chest doesn't even count. In the virtual world, the brain is the only vital organ.
What? The music? It's called 'Supervillains' and it's from the soundtrack to the Super NES game 'Spiderman & Venom: Maximum Carnage'. It's directly based on the song 'The Mob Rules' by Black Sabbath during The Dio Years.
P.S.S. Have you played Red Orchestra: Ostfront? It is made by the dev's of Killing Floor, but the most authentic game I've played. It features any-time reloads, does not feature an ammo count, but says after you reload if the mag is heavy, light, or very light. You can sprint, too :) It has many classes, like rifleman, etc. Hard to explain; I did post a video of RO:O's mod, Darkest Hour, on my YT profile. Lots of fun.
P.S. You should try the mods L.U.R.K. or Stalker Complete 2009. They are rather the same as ObLost, but less difficult, I think. Also, the weapon holding in L.U.R.K. is more realistic. Like the weapon is closer to the face, etc.
Nope. System Shock 2. The music in the first portion is from Maximum Carnage, a Super NES game where you play as both Spiderman and Venom (and can switch between them at will) and you're battling Carnage (and tons of random street thugs). XD
That particular Maximum Carnage track is a rendition of 'The Mob Rules' by Black Sabbath (during the Dio years). I actually like it better as a 16-bit synth tune.
Zoinks! So many mutants. Did you edit the shot pattern? That shotgun seems significantly less useless than usual.
I hate how the giant stomp doesn't damage other mutants. Seeing how it tossed the pseudo corpse several yards, I would expect to see those annoying little rats hanging from the trees.
No editing on the shot pattern. The sawed-off never was useless in ShoC or ObLost, only in Clear Sky. When I first started playing unmodded ShoC and got my hands on a sawed-off in Cordon, it was love at first sight...even though it has no sight.
*ba-dum-chhh* \8-P
I wish it had a bead drilled and tapped onto the rib. The Benelli to0. Especially the Benelli. The sawed-off seems to throw tighter patterns than the Benelli stubgun. The barrels on the sawed-off might actually be about an inch shrtr
LOL. For some reason all the ObLost weapons feel like airsoft to me, especially against mutants. I played around with the sawed-off by making it shoot tighter patterns and do more damage once. Then I switched to Arsenal and lost that weapon file.
To be honest I haven't played STALKER in a while, been playing mostly Bioshock and RSV2.
But yeah, sights would be nice on the sawed-off. I guess they meant for it to feel like a quick hacksaw job, so that's why there's no sight.
The sawed-off in Clear Sky is great against mutants, but I've had bandits take more than one shot point-blank center chest -- almost as if the pellets scattered all around the target like in Killing Flo0r.
It kinda makes sense though; I have heard that if you just hack off a barrel it leaves burrs that can drastically affect the shot pattern, at least with lighter loads. You need to have it crowned to maintain decent accuracy, or at least do a quick radius job.
BTW don't get Bioshock until it gets cheaper, now that I've given it some play time, it has some pretty serious flaws. The guns, obviously, but also it gets extremely tedious and repetive. The gun modification system is horribly handicapped and the "invention" system is a joke. There's no stealth engine, just a facade of stealth, and most of the plasmids suck. I get the feeling they tried to cram too much into the game and didn't give it the depth it deserved.
Also, I've fired it one-handed on more than one occassion and have also fired double-shots out of it (two-handed, of course, and before shortening it).
It has to have double triggers as opposed to a single-selective. Most but not all over/unders have single-selective triggers and falling firing pins that fire the top first. Most but not all side-by-sides have double triggers which are mechanically simpler. Old West double shotguns had double triggers (single-selective hadn't been invented yet). Trigger pull is nice and crisp on all the doubles I've ever used. Not sure of the distance of travel.Front trigger fires the right, back trigger the left
Side-by-sides with single-selective triggers fire right to left in keeping with the typical way a double-trigger side-by-side is used since the front trigger operates the right and the back trigger operates the left. The front trigger is intended to be pulled first (not obligatory, just logical since it's easier to transition front to back instead of back to front).
Neat! But how did you physically manipulate the gun into firing both barrels at once? Pull both of the triggers at the same time? It seems kind of awkward since the front trigger would go back and press into your other finger on the rear trigger.
It IS awkward since you sacrifice the grip strength of the middle finger (which is on the rear trigger). It's not really meant to be used that way. If you pull both at once, though, the front trigger doesn't press into your middle finger. If you try to fire them seperately, though, it doesn't feel right.
Ah, I see. It would be cool if it was like a 3-stage trigger where the first stage would be the takeup, then the second stage to fire the first shot and a third stage to fire the second shot without having to release the trigger back to its original position.
How about a single-selective trigger, two seperate firing pins, and a selector switch that would allow you to cho0se single- or double-shots? That is, if that's mechanically feasible. Not much of a market for such a thing, but we're speaking hypothetically here.
I bet that would be mechanically possible, though a bit awkward since you'd have to take your finger off the trigger.
BTW you should play some of the Thief series, I noticed you mentioned System Shock, which was co-developed by Looking Glass Studios which also made the Thief series. Of course after Looking Glass went out of business, Irrational tried to make games by themselves and ended up with Bioshock (which was pretty average IMO).
gotta love the sawed off shotgun but the slugs and darts are seriously weak

have you used the mini version of the Galil? it's actually quite useful aside the from wearing out quickly
and also the full sized Galil with the wooden hand grips has pretty amazing sights

That's not in this mod. It's in LURK, though.

At least some of this music is from Deus Ex, right?
If so, that's badass.
