This will work with a sturgeon rig. We use the exact same technique, although mostly with squid, and it works great too. You need the half-hitches to keep the bait on when casting hard and far with 12 OZ of weigh, and so that the sturgeon doesn't just quickly suck the head off the squid.
is this affective while using a sliding sinker with like a sturg rig.??? ive just been cutting the heads of the anchovies sliding the hook thru once and using a bunch of magic thread.. it hasnt worked for me though..

Didn't know sturgeon would hit anchovy, thought they were mainly grass eaters.
