IE8 turn on shared session state by default. In order to avoid your problem, you just open New Session from File menu. The new window will use different session state from the original one.
You are right, this was also posted in my blog as a suggestion, and it's certainly the easiest workaround. I just really want things to remain as they were, at least as an option.
You know, you could always use another browser for that other session, like firefox? opera? google chrome? Then again... sharepoint is a MS product, the html and css is probably not supported in any other browser than IE ;)
True, but especially for SP Dev, and even more so for intranet development, IE is really the browser of choice. For my personal use I keep a set of browsers at hand, and IE8 is not one of them.

Hmmm weird, I always experienced that on IE7 I'm sure (upgraded to IE8 last night though so can't test it!) :-\

Just to clarify: I know there are ways around the issue, such as runas. However, this is an added hassle for no reason.
