i fucking hate the last 5 seconds of this song. it sounds as if theres a conclusion. theres an ending. FUCK THAT. this song should never end. it should go on and on forever.
no matter who does this song, no matter what its in. its still just as powerful, just as moving and beautiful. no supposed"bad artist" Or "stupid show" can change that.
but this version is a mix of both versions from Cohen.
I think it is very multifarious? (is it the right word? please help me ;) ) cause it's sad but you can also dream to it, imo. It's often used in movies and tv series. I liked it very much in "Criminal Minds", don't know which version it was, think it was this.
I hope I helped you and you understand it.
nice greetings from germany
ps: the information is from wikipedia. just search "halleluja" and Leonhard Cohen
@carol689 oh well this is a bit complicatet (please forgive my bad english =D) in the original version from Leonhard cohen (album various positions) the first verse is about King David from the bible and the melody he played for King Saul (I don't know if theres an other english name). the second verse is about Bathseba. And so on.
In the published live-version from More Best of Leonhard Cohen he changed the text, it's now about the relashionship between the singer and his female Lover.
This song has the perfect balance between strength in the chord movements and exhaustion in the vocals. I've listened to several other versions of this song and sometimes they sound too tired and they lack momentum. I feel as though the sound of the vocals are representative of the exhaustion everyone feels when a tragedy strikes, and the movement of the chords are symbolic of how the world keeps moving; how we live after the pain and loss. Its all dissonance and resolution.
This really is the best cover, though I still prefer the Cohen version myself. I love the intimate tone of the thing and the fact he used the additional verses.
I don't watch scrubs but I like this version. Most singers overdo it he is sort of careful and restrained. You don't have to add much to a Leonard Cohen song.
No! After some research- the version in the movie itself is credited as John Cale, but Rufus Wainwright's version ended up on the soundtrack. Dunno why...
Best version ever!

So sad that he and Lou Reed couldn't work out their differences. Such a brilliant duo.
