  • Best version ever!

  • Shrek will live on forever!!

  • god this song chokes me up.. it reminds me of my grandpa for some reason, rest in peace old man. :')

  • i fucking hate the last 5 seconds of this song. it sounds as if theres a conclusion. theres an ending. FUCK THAT. this song should never end. it should go on and on forever.

  • 2 people dont care for music

  • This was in Shrek, wasn't it?

  • no matter who does this song, no matter what its in. its still just as powerful, just as moving and beautiful. no supposed"bad artist" Or "stupid show" can change that.

also this was amazing in scrubs

  • das lied macht mich traurig. es ist wirklich das beste lied das es überhaupt gibt !!!

  • the best movie scene to this song was from Basquiat IMO. Beautiful rendition.

  • @SaucedoTattoo I couldnt agree more.

  • How can 1, or anyone dislike this song?

  • When my best friend was killed in Afghanistan, and his wake, we had this song playing.

  • The one person who disliked this is Satan.

  • zajebisty kawalek

  • zajebisty kawałek

  • but this version is a mix of both versions from Cohen.

I think it is very multifarious? (is it the right word? please help me ;) ) cause it's sad but you can also dream to it, imo. It's often used in movies and tv series. I liked it very much in "Criminal Minds", don't know which version it was, think it was this.

I hope I helped you and you understand it.

    nice greetings from germany

ps: the information is from wikipedia. just search "halleluja" and Leonhard Cohen

  • @carol689 oh well this is a bit complicatet (please forgive my bad english =D) in the original version from Leonhard cohen (album various positions) the first verse is about King David from the bible and the melody he played for King Saul (I don't know if theres an other english name). the second verse is about Bathseba. And so on.

In the published live-version from More Best of Leonhard Cohen he changed the text, it's now about the relashionship between the singer and his female Lover.

  • bellissomaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Can someone tell me the meaning of this sing??

  • I didn't know the original was a man

  • Hermosa canción.

  • FINALLY!!!! The version I love and that is sung RIGHT

  • Shrek Version

  • This is my favourite version of the song. Heard it first on Basquiat and was a pile of tears and goosebumps then ;) Beautiful!

  • música linda demais, quase chorei aqui

  • This song has the perfect balance between strength in the chord movements and exhaustion in the vocals. I've listened to several other versions of this song and sometimes they sound too tired and they lack momentum. I feel as though the sound of the vocals are representative of the exhaustion everyone feels when a tragedy strikes, and the movement of the chords are symbolic of how the world keeps moving; how we live after the pain and loss. Its all dissonance and resolution.

  • @PandaBubbleLovable Well put.

  • it's great

  • one of a few perfect songs...

    the word therefor is:

    magnifique

  • Great !

  • This really is the best cover, though I still prefer the Cohen version myself. I love the intimate tone of the thing and the fact he used the additional verses.

  • I don't watch scrubs but I like this version. Most singers overdo it he is sort of careful and restrained. You don't have to add much to a Leonard Cohen song.

  • it is John Cale. its just that Cohen wrote the song

  • one of the best scenes in scrubs....I get goose bumps when I hear this song...

  • omfg yes!

  • miluju ho!

  • Was this the version from scrubs?

  • Yes this is, I looked it up on reliable sources (OST)

  • yes, it was.

    Scrubs S1, E4

  • yes

  • @pip139 yes

  • @pip139

    Yep.

  • Comment removed

  • I love John Cale!

  • first herd it on shrek.. fell in love with the song itself

  • i like this version better =)

  • oh and is this a one hit wonder?

  • when i first heard it i was watching shrek and the song really touched my heart

  • same here but i wish i knew who was the one who sang the one in the movie, or was it John Cale?

  • Rufus Wainwright, I believe.

  • No! After some research- the version in the movie itself is credited as John Cale, but Rufus Wainwright's version ended up on the soundtrack. Dunno why...

  • oh i see, thanks anyway for the kind reply

  • had to do with a new album from Rufus, released by same production company as the movie, gave some extra advertisement
