That's why you shouldn't watch a movie with preconceived notions going in. It's not the best movie ever made, no, but it is one of the best Sci Fi movie made in a looooong time. In my book it's the best since Aliens.

Some of the people I saw the movie with thought there was too much action.

The special effects are especially good when you consider how much the movie cost to make.

I am unsure if you are aware, but the events in the movie are meant to mirror real life events in South Africa, and those parts of dialogue and public opinion in the movie are meant to be ironic.

Yes that bugs me if people say district 9 is an action movie. I maybe see them calling District 9 a smart action movie that but brother me much. I think action movies got a bad name over the years. For me District 9 is my favorite movie of 2009. District 9 is a Sci-fi Drama movie.

i never saw reviews so this movie was incredible to me

i liked how it was not like any other movie i've seen

and that was a keen observation (the mech scene)

how he never broke who he was despite the shift in tides

I really loved the idea, and I also liked the way it switched between a documentary and a film. Now I saw this when it came out so I didn't hear the hype. But I was still excited to see this because the idea to me was great and I do think that this is a really good sci-fi film. But it is sure as hell not an action film.

@Nerastarel yeah,for me Avatar wasn't as big and incredible as people made it out to be. It was an "okay",enjoyable movie,but it was just overhyped,and the plot was cliche(pretty much like Dances with Wolves/Pocahontas. meets The Smurfs). I wasn't completely wowed by it,because I've seen much better films,but I will give it credit that the visual were beautiful,and incredible.

the biggest hype kills movie(yes its worse than dark knights case) for me is AVATAR

sorry but I expect so much and get so little...

friggin james cameron,got me hyped up so much and give me dances with wolves mixed with Ferngully in VERY pretty(i admit that)

I don't think Dark Knight is a hype kill. It met the expectations of the hype it set up.

The reveal of the human/alien arm on Wikus van de Merwe was pretty shocking, and his operating the mecha roboarmor was good. And the alien child was good too.

The movie is a success in terms of reviews and profit. So the hype did not kill District 9 though it MAY give people the wrong impression like you did. I watch a movie disregarding the hype whether the hype sounds promising or not. How do you get hyped up for a movie?
