My mother had her album back in around the 1970's. I loved her and her look as a child. Thank you so much for posting this up! It has been a major flashback!
As a kid I would get her albums out if my parents collection and play them while staring at her pictures. I thought she was beautiful then and seeing these pictures again I still think she's beautiful. My Dad must have thought so too, my younger sister is named Claudine.
Instantly transported to my junior year at The University of Texas, when I listened to this song and album incessantly. Hearing it again for the first time in almost a half century was like being in a time machine...I swear that I could smell the sweetness of the air on a mild Austin night... and, if only for a brief moment, feel exactly what it was to be 20 all over again!
Thanks for posting a wonderful Jobim tune.Claudine was awesome in the 60's.Guess she had a flat tire and Williams saw her and give her a ride and the rest history.
Yeah. It accidently went off when she accidently pointed it at Spider and then accidently pulling the trigger and accidently shooting him in the back. Accidently.
This reminds me a little bit of Alizée's song, "L'effet". Not that they sound the same, but almost as if it could be from the same era as Claudine, though it's from 2007. If you couldn't tell, I'm an Alizée fan:)
She claimed it was an accidental shooting but who knows? The prosecution mishandled important evidence which wasn't allowed to be presented. According to Wikipedia..... "The jury convicted her of a lesser charge—misdemeanor criminal negligence—and sentenced her to pay a small fine and spend 30 days in jail." Even though they were divorced, Andy Williams always supported her very publicly throughout the trial.
She was best known in the U.S. for her chart hit (not sure anymore how far it climbed), Hello, Hello. Sadly she was also well-known (infamous) for her role in a shooting...
Lovely tribute, thank you. I remember her music from my childhood, and of course on The Andy Williams Show. Please check out my channel LushBudget for similar tastes.
great video, I would like to now how she is today, is she happy? I have always been inpressed and influenced by her persona, and wish her good karma... even though spider died as a result of her hand... I do believe there was more to the story than we were told, these moment never just happen they build over time before coming to a life changing cresendo. At any rate, this event signaled the end of a very talented person at a time when she was just starting to be interesting.
She's in her 60's now, and is married to the lawyer who defended her at her murder trial. He dumped his wife for Claudine. They live in Aspen... or they did the last I heard.
It is exactly what I think. She seems obviously to be a wonderfull and surprising person. I know she was insulted by vulgar people including the Rolling stones. She deserves to be better known. If you don't understand French, please note that her French is very beautiful and distinguished
Actually she got famous for singing "Meditation" in "Run for your Life" with Ben Gazzara in the 60's. That series is rerunning and I have my DVR all ready.
@jazza123456789o Claudine married her lawyer who represented her in the Spider Sabitch case and lives in Aspen and Hawaii with him. Not sure if she ever had kids with him, though. VERY sad to see her marriage end with Andy Williams and even sadder for her three kids to have to deal with all this. Her middle son lives in Costa Rica and her daughter, Noelle, once did some modeling. Hope these tidbits of info help. (For more info, read Andy's book, "Moon River and Me".)
@jazza123456789o Claudine was caught up in a scandal in 1976 when she shot her boyfriend Spyder Sabich, a well known skier but got off on a misdemeanor. She was once married to Andy Williams but she faded from the spotlight after the trial and it's anyone's guess where she is now. I've often wondered what ever became of her. I remember hearing her sing a song called Monsieur DuPont and I thought at the time how well it fit her voice. I would love to find that clip of her singing it..
I have a wonderful and clear memory of hearing this around 1967 (I was only 11 that year) when my mother heard it somewhere and bought the "45." Mom called for our neighbor to come over (a lovely French "war bride") and played it for her. I remember that Mrs. B's eyes tear-up a bit in appreciation! So nice to hear this again and remember that happy afternoon.
I recall her being involved with a French skier, who was found murdered. She was married to Williams at the time. That incident pretty much did in her career.
I have The Streets Of San Francisco first season DVD. She guest starred in an episode titled "The Set-Up" which guest starred Stuart Whitman, Jason Evers and Academy Award winner Jack Albertson(Albertson played a cantankerous blind man).
I remember she was very open about her affair with him, after his death. I believe she said, "The three most important things in my life are my children, my husband and my lover". Quite shocking at the time.
She was in an episode of McHale's Navy "The Big Raffle". That episode is here on You Tube.

She sounds far better in French and should have avoided singing American songs in English .
